I find the Western coverage of King Bhumipol's demise very biased and rude. The Royal family, including the current Chakri family, already lost their constitutional power when King Bhumipol ascended the throne at a tender age of 18, having lost his father at 2 and his older brother, a crowned prince, at 18. He used his education and his privilege to help in rural improvements, women's education and other developmental programs. There is a saying, among people of all political persuasion, "When the king was young they would say Bhumipol is respected only because he is a king. With time, and looking at what he has done, they now say, 'The king is adored, admired and revered because he is Bhumipol'." You cover modeling and shopping royal families of the West with 24/7 awe, but a man who spent his time helping his poor, the working class and the middle class you make snide comments. You can reject royalty, but you don't have to deny the fact that some royalty have spent their life in service of their people...far more than others. Kindly show respect. And do not keep saying there is going to be "instability" after his death, as if you are wishing for it, or as as some kind of colonial plot to create instability. Watch your words, especially in the media. for it might reveal your agenda or intentions sometimes...
