For this reason third party teams are so rewarding: you pick the 16 players team with all positionals and start playing with your full power (sometimes you are short of linemen but you can play arround that fairly easily)
Exactly Glorfindel! Buuut most of them are still twice the price or more of GW haha! 😁
Plus, buying teams that are not released yet in the new edition is not recommended, because it's bound to get modifications on the roster
@@BoneheadPodcast They're rather expensive, yes. But when you consider that they give you a full team with all positionals and sometimes even a couple of big guys... Well... It's not really that bad, in my opinion.
@@BoneheadPodcast Some of the 3D printed teams are nice and cheap though - I've just picked up an Amazon team for £21.50 inc postage. 4x Blitzers, 2x Throwers, 2x Catchers, 8x Linewomen.
Honourable mention for Dark elves needing two boxes for their blitzers.
We don't talk about the GW Dark Elf team... I'm sure I still have one of those leg-spikes in my hand 😂😂😂
Also the assassin is FW and FW now is like $100 per model lol
Kitbashing together Chaos Renegades is definitely something i have on my bucketlist.
I want to build it out completely out of AoS units, using Warcry warbands as the humans, Rockguts as the Trolls, some Ogor as the Ogre, get one of the Island of Blood Rat Ogres and a Clan rat, maybe Dark Elf Corsair as the Elf and maybe one of those Kruleboyz as the Orc and then slap a bunch of mutations onto them.
But... I'm still waiting for my Undead team box to arrive, i've ordered it over a month ago, but the bloody covids and brexits made the shipment disappear somewhere in the warp.

Good fun listing the one box frustration list, I still remember the sinking feeling when you realize one box is not enough, also, 7's does make this easier to field a team
What about Snotlings?
I bought two packs (consider Riotous Rookies), two Trolls and literally every Star Player I will take with them, which is every Star Player I can take with them. ;-)
This is a spot on list Ben (and great for people wanting to get into BB for first time). You’re not wrong about the Renegades - I went around the 1 box issue by ordering the Greebo Malice team (which only took a couple weeks to ship to Australia) and yes I grabbed a Witch Elf to use as the Dark Elf so it will look different enough from the other Marauders. I also made sure to pick up their Mutations pack so I had bits to create a few mutated players because, well, it’s why you play Chaos in the first place right?
Last time I was playing Renegades, I was using old 2nd edition models, 3rd party models like the Heresy Miniatures Ogres and cyclops as a Troll proxy, plastics from 3rd edition, and most of all, the limited edition Chaos All-Star models that I scored on eBay for a song. Scale wise they don't match up at all, as 2nd edition models were 28mm heroic and we're now more like 34mm truescale...
...but you're absolutely right, the modeling options are limitless, and perfect for someone with a huge, piecemeal and ancient collection like myself.
Nurgle deserves an honorable mention, the rottspawn is a forgeworld model and you only get 2 pestigors in a box but you get 4 bloaters so buying a second box is horribly impractical outside of converting a star player model.
Honestly Nurgle is a complete one box team - they don't need more than 2 Gores or the rotspawn. I start 4 bloats 1 pestigore 6 (or 7) rotters 3 rerolls. I use a human linemen with a black base marker to alter him to rotter 7. Only thing is you can get players other teams so that's and issue so i use regular humans with a white base marker or if the opponent cool with it their model with base marker. .
I’m just getting into Blood Bowl and very much enjoy your channel and podcast after I found it a couple months ago.
I think I’m just going to play Sevens because it’ll make almost any single box ready for the smaller games.
Underword Denizens are missing. Surely they are worse then humans in the one box event. You need Snotlings, a RatOger and Ideas for Mutations.
I really did consider Underworld! But I think they land a little better than Humans - humans need a big guy and some small guys, Underworld do too, but Humans also need a second box for the positionals!
I assume for a more casual experience all these are still good? I have just had this bought me and immediately want a couple of other boxes just for variety. I have watched your other video on the best teams but fancied an eleven one…… great vids and I am so up for this game. Played it back in the late 80’s early nineties on the polystyrene board.
I'm planning on only ever playing sevens. One box barring a few big guys does for most teams as you're only allowed x4 positionals in the entire team and a maximum of 11 players on each team. Most boxes come with x6 linemen so that means I have scope for a big guy and four positionals that come in the same box. In sevens you only realistically need x2 blitzers on teams who can pass.
This is why I prefer sevens, more funny, a lot quicker and possible to have an entire team in a box.

During the Halfling segment you suggest there are better and cheaper options out there for treemen that don't come from FW. Do you have an episode covering this? Currently we use proxies but I would like to have actual treemen that are reasonably priced.

Sadly they’re 6 in a pack now, but for £20!! That’s all your Trees and Deeproot, and you can also use them as the basis for a Treeman based ogre team!

Hey Alex, there are some great 3rd party manufacturers - Greebo and Willy's miniatures spring to mind! Or with a little greenstuff and some 40k Ork bitz you could have something pretty quick!!
Renegades (and other amalgam teams) aren't really intended as starter teams, but perfect once you have other teams
that make them up already. Once I've painted my halflings, I can take some of my dwarves and humans and have an OWA team ready made (why I paint them all in the same team colours...)

Anyway... I agree on both of the stunty teams. Not only because you need a lot of extra stuff to really make them work, but because they work rather poorly even with a full lineup. I mean... We are talking stunties, right...?
It seems to me that something's gone horribly wrong at Specialist Games. The boxes are clearly designed to be as cheap as possible with two identical sprues, and to be supplemented by booster packs. But most teams never got a booster, and the few boosters we've seen have been rather odd. They can't even keep star players in stock, and now they're doing mercenaries instead...???

Well, I cannot believe I did not think about Chaos Renegades. I have been sort of planning a team for the last week and running into all these issues.
Haha, Goblins are definitely the poster boys of difficult 😁 But starting a Renegades team from scratch - that's a crusade 😍

2 ogre teams, use a spare ogre for humans and some gnoblars as halflings……? Gives a nearly full human team plus full ogre tea. And a spare ogre for chaos chosen.
How is Nurgle not on this list? All 4 pestigors are mandatory if you want any chance of winning or at least scoring.
Hey Martin! Nurgle are absolutely up there!! I had them bunched with Orcs - need the second box, but don't *Need* the big guy to start!

I think the human team defintly deserves some special attention of the fact they are "THE" beginning team
Well, they just got a Tier adjustment for Constructed! The team is great with just two human boxes, but that Ogre is always such a tempting upgrade!!

IF they arn't going to be playing in a GW store. id point them to greebo or other 3rd party teams for most of these boxes
id put dark elves in number six (only 2 blitzers again you really need the 4)
Anything that really needs a big guy
And a few extra boxes from Forge World 😁😁
There are teams that doesn't need the big guy like Dwarves and Chaos

Im most bitter about the goblin team. People love goblins because they like to cheat. So GW saying oh this goblin team play by the rules is such a lame attempt to hide that they just want to rip you off and make you have to buy from FW etc. it’s a massive slap to the face
Don't forget OWA, they can be pricey getting into as well.
Isn't there a boxset for OWA that comes with half of a human team, half of a dwarf team and 3 halflings to boot?
You end up having full team positionals (with 1 extra Dwarf and Halfling) and only missing one Big Guy.
It's actually a really decent box.

Yeah, they dropped back in Spike 10 I think, same time as Underworld!! It's a very good value box, just add the big guy of your choice and you are away!! 😁
At least the new teams are packaged better than these.
I think orcs are worse than humans since shifting 2 lineman to blitzers is easier than 2 to blitzers and 2 to black orcs.
That a great point Brad!! But for me the Ogre is far more important to the humans than the Troll for the orcs!
@@BoneheadPodcast yeah but you might already have a spare ogre from that extra box of ogres you bought to round out that team.
If you have BB 2016 and a Black Orc box, or BB 2020 and the regular Orcs, the old Orc BOBs can become Blitzers and take 4 new Black Orcs as Big Uns. You also get some Gobbos too. So two boxes and two full teams, sorted.
Oh. Per gw ip guidelines kitbash, 3rd party, and 3d printed is prohibited to banned.
Pretty sure kitbashing is allowed if you're using GW's bits

Luckily the BB World is pretty rogue 😁 so unless a tourney or league is at an actual GW store, I think we’ll always be ok with 3rd party and prints! 🥳🥳
