If you watch the movie They Live or read the book 1984 the government wants to be able to spy on you, they do not like it the other way around. Probably because the management of Sierra Club, Greenpeace and Al Gore invested windmill companies. The FAA may have inadvertently improve the performance and cost efficiency of fpv with a 250 gram rule.

It's definitely a cool little plane, but that was some A+ rationalizing during the mission outset. I was completely sold, in fact I would argue it's better than okay, because at the end of the day if you can help just one kid.. (sorry, getting emotional here) to giggle by crashing a drone into its face, then you've done your job.. and I salute you.

Very cool plane, well done! I think you could boost the battery range by a significant amount with other motors. These high KV drone motors with their small propellers are not exactly efficient... A lower KV motor with larger propeller would be much more efficient.
@@pereoz In general, the bigger the propeller is fort a given amount of thrust, the more efficient it is. Also, there's a simple rule of thumb for RC-Planes: At about 300 Watts per Kg weight, the plane will climb vertically. So for this plane, I'd suggest 200-250 Watts per Kg. This would be about 60 Watts for this particular plane. So I'd choose something like a 2204 Outrunner (27mm Diameter, 20-25g weight, 80 Watts max.) and probably a 7x4 prop. Something like this would for sure be more efficient than two high revving drone motors.
A lot of comments asking for build info, so going just on perspective and picture scale compared to his hand I estimate the wing span to be 28", and length or from the nose to flaps to be 10.5" and the nose to be 6" and finally the two wing tips are about 5.5". But as he has stated the gyroscope and software is constantly adjusting, although it dis seem to manually land this with good results so I think it must fly good enough.....maybe he can verify my estimated guess. Would be a fun DIY project.

this island is near me and has a unusual name, 42.995056 -71.355956 copy n paste those coordinates in google earth, but make sure in the options that Decimal/degrees is selected as your coordinate choiceage.

I do 99% of my flying in a dense urban environment, and honestly most all of your videos are far more responsible than my guerilla missions around the neighborhoods with an overpowered micro skyhunter. Great video, and nice little bird.

The Pixracer autopilot and flight controller is $120, GPS module is probably around $50, TBS Unify for FPV video transmission is about $40, Runcam Split for video is about $70, those high KV drone motors are probably about $50 for a 4-pack, ESCs for them maybe $20, servos around $5, and probably around $5 for some foam board and carbon strut. That brings the total investment for his setup on just the plane side of things up to about $360ish, however, the cost of everything else needed gets just a bit more expensive, a Dragon Link for telemetry and control is $330 for a full kit with transmitter and receiver, the Fat Shark Dominator HD3 FPV goggles were $450 a while back. I'm not quite sure what radio transmitter he's using, but 300-500 bucks will get you one that accepts telemetry signals from the Dragon Link. FPV, even on the cheap end, can still be quite an expensive hobby. It's significantly cheaper to build a cheap park flier foamy like the plane in the video without FPV or any autonomous flight capabilities, could probably build that plane for a lot less than $100.

It'd be better to emphasize its low terminal velocity rather than its weight on the matter of how much damage it may cause to civilians on the ground. A 230g pointy object can definitely kill, but not this one :)
Damage to civilians on the ground may be low, but damage to civilians (or non-civilians) in aircraft could be quite high. It should be kept low enough to not create a danger to other aircraft.
Have a sub-250g fpv wing. With gps and rth/waypoint capabilities it is great. With the race quad motor it has power and efficiency and twice the battery. Awesome to just go out with it strapped to my drone bag and chuck it in the air whenever.
Just wonder for waypoint flying, is that the R/C transmitter doesn't have to always talk to the R/C receiver, since it flies really far. I am new to Ardupilot. And how you can make sure there's won't be fail, cause there's no chance to try it until it really flies......... btw, really nice flight!

I had no idea that this sort of thing existed at this level until about 2 years ago. I've spent the entire time learning and taking baby steps so I could do exactly what you are doing haha. I even have a lake near me house that I want to fly around. I have some better memories to make involving that lake.. I get to maiden my T1 Ranger, well as soon as I'm not scared to throw it and the weather permits. I put Arduplane on it with and H743 FC. I had this idea when I was in the Navy to build an RC F18, and put a camera in the cockpit... in 2006 lol. I wanted to take off and land on the roof of my barracks. We where going to paint a carrier deck up there. There was a guy in the command who actually flew RC planes, and he told me that it would never happen because we lived on an airstation. That, and he said it was way harder to fly than it looked. Some of those die hard line of sight only pilots are annoying as shit. My eyes suck, I can't read a billboard on the other side of the road wothout my glasses, so FPV basically opens the hobby up for me. Couple that with fully autonomous flight and I don't even need help from friends I don't have haha. It has taken an exhorbitant ammount of money and effort to get good at flying, and the only regret I have is that I didn't start sooner.
How are you able to get information and detail in mission planner while you are flying? Are you using some type of 900 MHz radio on the aircraft and the ground station?

I even have a lake near me house that I want to fly around. I have some better memories to make involving that lake.. I get to maiden my T1 Ranger, well as soon as I'm not scared to throw it and the weather permits. I put Arduplane on it with and H743 FC.
I had this idea when I was in the Navy to build an RC F18, and put a camera in the cockpit... in 2006 lol. I wanted to take off and land on the roof of my barracks. We where going to paint a carrier deck up there. There was a guy in the command who actually flew RC planes, and he told me that it would never happen because we lived on an airstation. That, and he said it was way harder to fly than it looked. Some of those die hard line of sight only pilots are annoying as shit. My eyes suck, I can't read a billboard on the other side of the road wothout my glasses, so FPV basically opens the hobby up for me. Couple that with fully autonomous flight and I don't even need help from friends I don't have haha.
It has taken an exhorbitant ammount of money and effort to get good at flying, and the only regret I have is that I didn't start sooner.

How are you able to get information and detail in mission planner while you are flying? Are you using some type of 900 MHz radio on the aircraft and the ground station?
Land them in stabilize mode, it removes max/min pitch limits compared to fbwa fbwb or cruise.

Dude, I am so very impressed with this plane and your building and flying skills!! I build and fly foamies and I am building a new modified delta to practice flying the elevon type planes.
