Change Colors in Repeat Patterns in Illustrator

  • Now we take the iPad pattern from my last tutorial and change colors using Illustrator's Recolor feature. Gather images, drag them into an Illustrator document and create new colorways from inspirational reference photos. It's quick and so versatile, but you may need to resolve close colors first to get the best results. Not a beginner Recolor Artwork tutorial, and we use both the new and the original feature, but hopefully this will inspire you to learn more!

Wonderful lesson and explanation of the recolour tool. The section on how to edit a pattern was a bonus :)

Wow! This was EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you so very much! You also have a very pleasant voice and manner! I would love if you could do a tutorial about adding textures to designs in Illustrator to give them a more “raster feel? Thanks again!

@@LauraCoyle hi I just wondered if you could help me, I've been using the mirror effect to create patterns with the pen tool, without any colour, however I can't seem to use the live paint bucket tool on it to add colour. How do I change the effect to a normal layer? I've tried to 'expand' but it's still not doing anything :/ literally searched the whole of the Internet for the answer!
