what an extraordinary production of this opera ! all the operas staged at your unforgettable and unique great opera house are equally real masterpieces to be inherited for the next generations to come ! I looooooooooooove you too much , royal opera ! you were created to be loved , indeed ! 💖💗💕
Give Bravo to great performances ❣️ I'm on TH-cam at your Opera. I've always enjoyed opera streaming. For the past week or so, I haven't been able to see full operas. Please make me visible. Thank you.
I love the production but it is a missed opportunity (like the prisoners chorus) to have a moment out of the action of the opera where everything is suspended in a single moment. This quartet reminds me of a similar sublime moment in Cosi - the "Soave sia il vento" trio. Also is the implication that Jaquino is abusive to Marzelline? I mean its a dramatic choice to be sure - but I've always kinda seen him as more the guy who Marzelline would be resigned to marry just simply because he's always been there - like a childhood friend or something that she doesn't have genuine romantic feelings for. Marzelline is a teenager who falls for Fidelio because he's kind, intelligent and a new force in her life. Yes he's kind've incel-y by our modern standards (not unlike Masetto) but Beethoven clearly sees him more as the unlucky third wheel than anything else. If you're going to develop his character, why not have him as more of a hard working suck up to Rocco rather than a dick?
Anyone who imagines that this no more than average production and singing is the best, needs to watch the classic video of Lucia Popp and Gundula Janowitz. Deeply moving without any of that horrible mouthing.
Too loud throughout, starting from Davidsen’s entrance on. The sublime suspension of time is missing. And why does Jacquino snatch Leonore’s hat? Does he suspect she’s a woman? Are the other characters then idiots, since it takes them the rest of the opera to figure it out?
Richard, I totally agree. Your "sublime suspension of time" is exactly what is lost. Where is the contemplation? Where is the emotional stillness? Listen to the Bernstein recording from the Vienna State Opera. It captures the moment, as a miniature counterpart to the prisoners' chorus "O welche Lust."
Travesty. Why does Marzelline have a cut/bruise belo6her eye? Did Jaquino rough her up in the opening Duet? What's with the Hat business? There really shouldn't be any 'Action' here at all (or in Leonore's Aria) - these are moments of internal Reflection by the Characters. We get to hear their thoughts and feelings about their Situation.

There voices sound like sweet dreams
🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏💖💖💖
Mahler's 4th symphony, 3rd movement...
Was thinking the same!
😍😍😍😍✨✨
It's apparently been filmed in 4k, but only one Blu-ray 2k release has been announced ?
Why run across the stage in the middle of this divine music?
Suddenly remembered her blocking? 😏
MARAVILHOSO! ❤

Yes available on TH-cam
We are allowed to think what we want to think. And we think this was great! To say our opinion is wrong is not for you to say.
Why haven't you fixed the type in the 1st paragraph?? "Act I quartet" NOT quarter.

Were you there? Absolutely clownish critique. Transparently pseudointellectual bullshit.
Non mi piace affatto.

Great singing, POS production. Totally embarrassing.

Well, maybe there are different views on things than just yours which seem quite narrowminded and rather uninteresting to me.
The roughing-up occurs before the opera starts. Jaquino is an asshole in this production. That's probably why dad prefers Fidelio.
@@drbarbarabaker Thanks for the into. It makes sense, Jaquino is fairly obnoxious in any case!
I agree with you. Good singing spoiled by a weird production. Pity.
