@@dianamalsher4774 great surprise on Sunday evening. The whole of fidelio was broadcast from Covent Garden on BBC 2 with Lisa davidson. Glorious. Didn't want it to finish. There are benefits to the lock down as some great performances are being broadcast. The GlyndeBourne ones are wonderful
:06 - I'm a stage director and was that a move the table to block the door bit? Cuz the table wouldn't block anything and she barely moved it. On to the positive. I really like the singer's vocal skills, intonation and commitment.
Davidsen is indeed magnificent. HOWEVER, the staging - with Marzellina coming in to see Leonore disrobing is just such gratuitous crap! The indication in Beethoven's score is that Leonore is ALONE! This is what drives me crazy about "modern" staging!;if you can't be innovative within the composer's indications, then pick another career. And thst goes for Peter Gelb at the Met, too!!
I don't mind straying away from the original indications at all, but this bs here doesn't make sense to me. Are they implying that Leonore is attracted to Marzellina? Lol so lazy and so trite.
please don''t start uploading only in 4k HD, I can't watch videos in 4k without interruptions every minute while it loads. I'll end up having to stop watching everything from ROH and Royal Ballet.
@@estray-_- That's just it, I'm not watching it with a mobile phone. I'm using my laptop, and changing the settings doesn't make a scrap of difference unfortunately.
Lindsey Carribean yes I know Maya and I know Minnie Ripperton, having recorded her for Reprise back in the day. But couldn’t figure out what any of that had to do with Covent Garden’s Fidelio - didn’t figure that you were making random riffs lol!
As usual the production is a risible exercise in narcissism and idiotic beyond words (when will the fashion change back to staging operas as written by the composer?), but Lise Davidsen is superlatively good. In fact phenomenal! Let's hope and pray her voice lasts as long as did Flagstad's!
Very difficult aria, VERY well sung (and acted). Brava.
She’s great!! Brava!!
Beautiful recording, Thank you Royal Opera!
Excellent technique Lise, especially the passaggios.
Glorious aria. Beethoven was a god
Love Lise Davidsen... a fabulous singer!

You can change it? If your watching through mobile it should be able to handle it. May I ask what you watch from. I suggest just watching in 720k

Maya rudolph has a beautiful voice like her mom Minnie riperton.
Huh??
@@tbridge001 lol that red head singer looklikes the comedian Maya Rudolph, daughter of singer with operatic voice Minnie Riperton. Look it up.

@@tbridge001 So you recorded Miss Riperton ? Are you a sound engineer ?
@@lindseycarribean5113 yes! For 50 years 😮
You guys ruined this show when you had a crowd of suits in the dungeon scene. WHY?
Agree.

I understand your misgivings about the production.... but I thought this worked quite well actually.
Very slow tempo... 💤
Skilled singer though!
No lower register strength
Horribly ‘ingolata’ and unsteady.
