The gentleman quoted as saying "An Englishman's home is his castle" was Jason Russell. He was killed on his doorstep along with 11 other militia members and two Grenadiers. The house with several musket ball holes still stands and can be visited here in Arlington.

I’ve read a few books on this day. The minute men and militias were so ready! I didn’t realize before either about how much they drilled each week and were prepared for conflict! Before, I imagined it just being a skirmish that broke out, but now I learned how much the locals prepared and organized for such an event

This is an incredible narration! Even as an American, my heart goes out to the British mindset of WTF just happened!?! (After the first shot) and the terror of knowing the militia are rushing through the woods ahead of you before getting ambushed on the road. My emotions rose with the patriot mindset of (it’s on now, no turning back). Real people with real lives.

Interesting to see the British perspective on this. Left out that the British were marching to disarm the militia of a cannon. That's why the militia knew where the British were headed. Also interesting to hear your take on the Boston Tea Party. They weren't protesting the increased price of smuggled tea, they were protesting the tax on tea. One other observation: I question your depiction of the British striking into the woods to address militia that was "hiding behind walls". The road and the walls are still there in some places. The walls the militia were hiding behind were no more than 20 feet (3 meters) from the British column. Not much chasing into the woods to be done. However, if you stop to engage, more will get shot as fighting against this kind of uprising is like trying to push the ocean back. The farther and longer you push, the wetter you get.

The very first foreign weapons for the American Revolution or before the American Revolution began at Lexington and Concord arrived from Spain to Marblehead Massachusetts in February 1775 by Spaniard Diego de Gardoqui!
Spain also sent muskets to Saratoga in coordination with the French in 1777!
Unbeknownst to many, Spain also sent weapons and cannons and supplies to the American Colonies inside French ships sailing from France! So when the ships arrived everyone assumed the entire cargo was only French lol!
    Huge mistake but understandable!
Spain also paid and funded the Yorktown campaign paying both the French and Continental soldiers who hadn't been paid for several months and years causing several mutinees and also paid and refurbished Degrasse's French fleet allowing Degrasse to travel to both the Chesapeake and later Yorktown which Spain also had a huge role in the military planning of Yorktown which is why the Spanish Ambassador was invited to the Yorktown victory celebration in October of last year 2023!
Spain protected French possessions allowing Degrasse to travel to his destination freely without worry and it was Spanish General Bernardo de Gálvez who was kind and generous enough to release his own French troops under Spanish command and ALLOWED Degrasse to take them to go reinforce Rochambeau at Yorktown!
Bernie didn't have to do that but he was very generous!
Spain was just as significant as France if not more so and I would argue more so!
Spain also provided the American soldiers with uniforms, colored cloth to make uniforms, medicines, shoes, boots, shirts, cannons and tents! Also thousands of muskets with bayonets and a considerable amount of money!
On August 9 1780 Luis de Cordova captured 55 British ships and over 3,000 British prisoners, many of which were about 2,000 British soldier reinforcements,
80,000 muskets, 300 cannons and equipment enough for about 40,000 British troops that could have been used against American forces!
Two months later the Great Hurricane of 1780 destroyed several British ships and demasted several others! In 1781 Bernardo de Gálvez conquered Pensacola capturing over 1,000 British prisoners!
    These three Spanish elements;
Cordova's victory, Great Hurricane of 1780 & Bernie's victory at Pensacola greatly weakened and demoralized the British! By the time Yorktown arrived the British in general were already tired and even sick as there was malaria present in the marshes of Virginia or Yorktown that infected a good portion of British and Hessian regulars or soldiers preventing them from fighting!
Weak, demoralized, tired and also sick or ill!
The path was set! All the Americans and French had to do was win and they did. An easy victory for the combined French and Continental army!

Warmonger industry of firearms today, 2023, should be reversed. Do you see
anybody terrorizing your village, town, city ? No ? “ The Second Amendment, ( or
Bill of Rights ) ratified in 1791 “ A well regulated militia, being necessary to the Security of a free state……” need against fellow citizen ? Obvious hunters have rifles they hunt with. Seems handguns are products of mounting cowardness,
racial misunderstanding, and lack of 10 Commandments of July 4, year 300 BC taught to younger, middle aged, and older folks. “scientific material madness,” as
Jim McGuinn sang in a Byrds song, or, “Saturday night gun special,” sang by Ronnie Van Zant .

Also some things that I noticed with the map in the video around 6:18:
      - Delaware's northern border extends a bit too far north, including the city of Philadelphia
      - Vermont is just shown as split between NH & NY. While this may at least in part fit the claims of the NH & NY colonies, the situation on the ground was much different by the 1770s, with VT being effectively independent from that point onwards. While it fought with the other colonies, it wouldn't end up joining them in a union until the 1790s.

That's an ongoing argument, whether Lexington or Concord fired the first shots of the war. To me, it's Lexington that earned the credit. That's where the "mysterious" shot was fired that started an exchange of bullets. Many believe it was Sam Adam's who fired that shot; he always was a trouble-maker, and a member of The Sons of Liberty. Glad that we're all friends now and enjoy a "special relationship".

Very good, as always. That said, some things that are often overlooked:
Massachusetts was probably the most highly militarized society in the world, and certainly in the English speaking world, at the time. Moreover, it wasn't fraudulent militia parading around half drunk in overly fancy uniforms but men with a good deal of training and experience and vast social cohesion.
Looking at Tommy Gage's training guidance to the garrison of Boston, it becomes pretty clear that the British force was seriously undertrained at the time, not all that much above raw recruits.
Thus, we not only had the numbers, we had the quality, too.
Thus, from earl Percy: "During the whole affair the Rebels attacked us in a very scattered, irregular manner, but with perseverance & resolution, nor did they ever dare to form into any regular body. Indeed, they knew too well what was proper, to do so. Whoever looks upon them as an irregular mob, will find himself much mistaken. They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians & Canadians, & this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting."

My wife's ancestor was a Minute Man and was killed by the first volley of British shots at Concord Bridge. One of my ancestors, fought in the Southern Theater and was a Lt. Colonel in the North Carolina Militia at Kings Mountain and Cowpens.
A little known fact of the Amrican Revolution is Britain's need for cash after the virtual bancruptcy of the British Eash India Company,

No, it was the virtual bankruptcy of the seven years war, which they had fought for the colonies and the British governments hesitation to advance Westerly to take lands which belonged to France.

It’s amazing how both sides’ leaders blundered and misstepped their way into war, and I say that as lifelong Massachusetts resident.

And then there was Samuel Whittemore, who, at 80 years of age and while tending his fields spied the British relief force marching towards Lexington..
Arming himself and taking cover behind a stone wall, he ambushed the column.
He killed one w his musket, another w his dueling pistol and mortally wounded a third w his sword…Beaten, bayoneted and shot, he was left for dead…He lived another 18 years…The Brits didn’t much like him

Perpetuating the American Marksman myth. I hate that. Most of these peoples were farmers who would Hunt animals, not shoot at people. And if you think about how many musket balls were flying around fired by the colonists, they were terrible shots. If you figured each one of them shot 5 musket balls, and they numbered about a minimum of one thousand colonists, that's 5,000 musket balls and how many hit their Mark? Not many. And that figure just gets worse with more colonists and more musket shots.

What an amazing underrated channel you guys are! I hope your channel takes off soon and you guys become really successful! Best videos I have seen on the American Revolutionary War on TH-cam that I have seen that covers the war in detail.
First goal is to get you guys to take off with your coverage of the American Revolutionary War which is insanely under covered on TH-cam. But from there you really could cover so much more the way you guys are doing this. 18th century warfare is so under covered on TH-cam and you guys do it amazingly well! From I'd like to see you guys do this for the US Civil War, Napoleonic Wars, the war of 1812, 7 years/French and Indian war, the *British Civil War*, British and East India Company wars with the Indian Kingdoms/Princedoms and more!
You guys are filling such a massive whole in the YT history industry! Great job guys, keep up the great work! You guys will take off soon if you keep up coverage like this!

Have to think animals don’t need or require modern ‘NRA’ - 200,000,000nd amended words to James Madison original Second Amendment . How can an Animal have his/her Say if she/he is no longer here ?

I am over-thrilled! This is a great 20min over-all that included a lot of finer detail! Such as: the Militia reaction of "They are burning and plundering Concord! We must Save the People!" [Non-Verbatum] - but a detail that is crucial, and often never mentioned.
Look forward to the Rest of the Series! - and for Equal Scales- I learned of Your channel through a comment of Epic History - and i Am so thankful, because this was wonderfully done!

This is an excellent video and well balanced with views of the conflict from both sides. One important detail shown here that I never fully realized: The Colonial Militia in Lexington did not block the road. Both sides were being drawn to war while holding back in small ways.
