  • Maria and I are playing Captain and first Mate for two days and deliver a friend’s superyacht from San Carlos to Vacamonte.
    On the way there, we stop at the deserted John Wayne Island to explore the ruins of this old resort.
    The haul out is an experience for itself...Panamá always has some adventure to offer for sure! But find out yourself!
    Ahoy,
    Nike & Karl

    That part where they are cranking down on the support with a stretching line attached to a chain and block, and your friend is bent over exactly in the line where the chain and block would have hit his head if anything had broken, had me yelling at my screen (about 12:35). Very interesting video, but wow the safety violations at that yard! :)

    At the beginning of this episode you were totally amazed at some of the over the top luxuries on that superyacht. It was a job to make some money for marina fees so you did what you had to do. The two days were a relaxing break of work and chores and a chance to see/experience some high tech gear and special amenities. Glad you are having time with Maria and will be getting back to Karl.

    Nice to see and visit fancy boats like that, but I'd honestly prefer a sailing vessel like Karl or my own boat. The biggest feature that I am jealous of is the amount of room to do engine work! It would be sooooo nice to not have to do boat-yoga for something as simple as a water pump impeller change!

    I've always wonderd, who pays for the repairs in the event a Boat/Ship is damaged during Haulout or does the owner have to file an insurance claim or eat the costs. I guess that would depend on the Marina/Shipyard and where it is in the world.

  • @np939427a

    Love that big boat, Does it come with a defib unit for every time you fuel up? Them engines i think were the best part of the boat, With nice big engine room to play about in, Now that's what i call cool, Nothing wrong with Karl tho! I think Karl needs a ice cream maker on board just use a bank of capacitors to run 240v all day long for free energy without running your battery's down in remote location would be a boost for Karl to have extra power without the sun.

  • @CheersWarren
    @CheersWarren 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting video the marine railway is quite the engineering , I wonder who paid for it original? They used to be common until they developed travel lifts. So how come the crew on the boat did not have any fendering out to keep the boat straight and centered?
    They had a similar marine railway where 'follow the boat' did a year long refit.
    Cheers Warren

    The only thing I was wondering about is, why not rubber pads between yacht and those side gang ways? Atleast should keep the yacht in the center while it beeing hauled up... Good thing is, they have to take it back in at some point and this will probably be a lot of fun again.

    It’s odd seeing you and Maria on a high end motor yacht - there doesn’t seem enough ‘struggle’ involved for you guys. But I guess it’s all about the experience, right?
    If I ever win the lottery I’d offer to fund your adventures, along with Sheddy on Chuffed, but I really don’t think either of you would want an ‘easy ride’ because a hard life kinda makes you who you, are.
    Good luck from the U.K. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    Some times simplicity is the answer. Cutting the beams and re welding, cost the yard about a hundred dollars if that.
    I'm sure the haul out fee was not cheap. That would explain the owners frustration.

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Light Ning yeah it was not cheap and they had refused to take us out the first time we delivered the boat because they had not loooked at the plans in depth. So that had built up a little tension before this ☺️

      Obviously he wasn't seeing the big picture and was frustrated the chore was taking longer than expected and the boat was bigger than the space could accommodate comfortably. Not every marina has a travel lift that can handle a boat that size and weight but they were clearly willing to give it a go and git-r-dun.

    • @garysouza2277
      @garysouza2277 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5
