    IMPORTANT: THERE ARE HEALTH AND SAFETY RISKS TO USING ALCOHOL AND ALCOHOL INK. AS I EXPLAIN IN THIS AND OTHER VIDEOS ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE DEMONSTRATED HERE, OUTDOORS IS THE PREFERRED PLACE TO DO THIS TECHNIQUE. FAILING THAT, INDOOR CONSIDERATIONS ARE ADEQUATE VENTILATION, PROPER USE AND STORAGE OF THE PRODUCTS (THEY ARE FLAMMABLE), AND POTENTIAL HEALTH RISKS TO OTHERS IN YOUR HOME, INCLUDING PETS. IT IS ADVISABLE TO WEAR PROTECTIVE BREATHING GEAR (VENTILATOR).

      Right?! This is what I mean about deciding when to stop and when to go on. We're all different and we would each make different decisions with each piece we do. Much of the joy I get is from the surprise elements of the process. :)

      That's great news, Mirjam! I'm so pleased you find the tutorial clear and appreciate your feedback. Just a kind word or two of clarification: I think you mean air brush. This is beautiful, and I've subscribed to your channel because I love how you work. I just had my first try with alcohol inks (sort of - I used alcholol markers and isopropyl alcohol because I can't afford to buy the inks if it's not something I think I can get to grips with). I created 3 pieces, all best described as "will be interesting to look back on in years to come", the nicest of which I tried to improve by adding a few gold lines but ruined by using the wrong marker. Pooh! I love how alcohol inks can look, but they must be one of the most difficult mediums to work with. Much practice is needed.

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, Debbie, and I'm sorry your first attempts didn't work out as you'd hoped. Alcohol ink is a very cat-like medium; sometimes it can be controlled and much of the time, it does what it wants and the best thing is to alter *your* plans to work with the cat. :) You're right too, about practice. I encourage you to keep trying. Also, I suggest you work with one color at a time for the first while. That way, you can really focus on what the ink does in response to your movements, the force of air you apply, and addition of extenders like alcohol and blending solution. Thank you for subscribing and I'll do my best to keep you interested.

    Thankyou for the video. It’s the best one I’ve seen, as I really like soft pale colours. It’s beautiful...and to think I can use photo paper instead of Yupo, is fab. As Yupo is so expensive.

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My pleasure, Adele, and I really appreciate your feedback on my tutorial video. Yes, photo quality paper tends to be a little more budget friendly than the synthetic papers, like Yupo. Please note that I used the matte (back) side of the paper for this piece. While you can certainly use alcohol ink on the glossy side, it won't move around quite the way it does on the matte side.

      Thank you for your kind feedback, Mary! The airbrush system I purchased is a very junior model. I needed something that would allow me to expel condensation (I live in a relatively humid area) and that would permit the adjustment of air pressure (psi). The model I chose does both and came in at just over $100.

      Thank you, Kris! The airbrush and condenser unit are MasterPro brand. It's a junior system that can be purchased through Walmart, Amazon, etc. I considered a few points, including cost -- plus I wanted a condensation release valve (I live in a relatively humid region) and I wanted to be able to easily adjust the psi. The system I found (there are many out there, even just under the MasterPro brand) met my needs and had good reviews. I hope that helps.

      Thanks, Elaine; my pleasure! The airbrush system (there's a compressor that goes with the brush) is relatively new to me and I've not used it with ink or paint in the channel yet -- just to blow air for now. Both are by Master Pro and so far, they would get my recommendation. The compressor is relatively quiet and is very easy to use.

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sherrian! Thank you for your kind words and feedback regarding my video tutorial. I purchased a junior system (airbrush, compressor and hose to join them) called MasterPro. You can find these and similar systems on Amazon and at Walmart.com, to name two. My compressor unit allows adjustment of the air pressure (measured in pounds per square inch, or psi) which I keep fairly low -- around 20 -- for this type of piece.

      @@TheTallestOne Thank you so much Kathryn..I am just started out with this alcohol ink. 40 yrs ago I used to paint with oils, and I loved to draw animals with Indian Ink the old fashion way...you remember....1 pen glitch and you start the pieced all over again. Hello, I love your video, can you please tell me what kind of airbrush you use? thank you, Lone from Denmark

      Hello Lone! Thank you for the feedback on my video. The airbrush system (hand-held brush, hose, and air compressor unit) are sold under the brand name Master Pro. I'm sure you can find something similar; this is junior level system.

    Hi Kathryn, your work is absolutely beautiful! I read in one of the comments, the air brush you use is Master Pro. Would you share the model number/price range please? Thanks so much!

      Hi Roxanne! Thanks very much for your feedback. I'm a total airbrush system novice, so I purchased my airbrush and compressor through Walmart. The airbrush is identified as "Master Airbrush - Model G222. The compressor Is a Master Pro but is only identified as quiet, 1/5 Single-Piston, High Air Volume. Both combined were just under $100. (And yes, the compressor is very quiet.)

    How do you adjust the psi that you use? I believe I have the same air brush.....thanks

      I adjust the PSI on the compressor unit I have. There are great videos on TH-cam with specifics if you don't have an owner's manual handy.

    Can you tell me where you purchased the bottle with the alcohol in it

    What do you recommend for blowing the ink?

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on what you're comfortable with, Cheri. Some people blow through a straw or use a Spritzer tool which expels air in bursts. Others prefer canned air -- and then there are airbrush systems as an option too.

    I'm using the same paper but when I drop the alcohol ink on it, the ink just soaks through the paper and no matter how many drops of alcohol I drop on and blow with an airbrush, it doesn't move. Any idea why?

    • @MikeAltman66
      @MikeAltman66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did the same thing when I first bought and tried to use my photo paper. What I discovered was that the first and perhaps the last piece of paper in the package were not the actual photo paper, but rather a more cardboard type piece of paper and the inks did not flow at all. Try using another piece of paper in the package - you should find that it works beautifully!

      Mike Altman: Thank you! I discovered that I had done that exact thing when I noticed the paper I had used was awfully stiff compared with the photo paper I had used in the past and tried another sheet. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one to make this mistake!

    merci quelle marque papier mat utilisé c'est une bonne idée car le papier jupo est très cher et pourquoi pas le papier glacé photo BRAVO comme toujours tanya

      @TheTallestOne  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonjour Tanya. La marque de papier est Kirkland; il est vendu chez Costco. Le côté mat est ce que j'ai utilisé pour cette technique car le côté brillant absorbe très rapidement l'encre.
