    • @kathrynsalamanchuk9583
      @kathrynsalamanchuk9583 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jenn. I don’t pay attention to the specific setting per se; my method is to adjust the air output from the airbrush until it feels right against my palm. Each ink color has a different viscosity and larger pieces require more air flow to move the ink, so I find it easiest to adjust as I work.

      Thank you, Ann! I hope to do a video about this but in the meantime, work on vellum, like the piece in this video, is sometimes mounted first onto white cardstock to add visual light and physical weight and strength. From there, it is mounted on a card base and/or matted and framed. I also keep scans of some pieces that are printed onto fabric and other substrates and made into prints, pillows and other lifestyle items.

      Hi Maureen and thank you for your comments. When I made this piece, Tim hadn't introduced that tool yet; I was referring to the one meant to splatter Distress markers. It really wasn't designed for moving alcohol ink and the one he has out now I understand is very good.

    Thank you so much, Kathryn. I have learned so much from all you have explained. It's wonderful how the artwork evolved. Can you just tell me what psi you had your airbrush set to? I am experimenting with mine, but it would be good to know what you find to be a good air pressure. Blessings :)

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Christie and thank you for your kind comments. My apologies for the belated response. I don't really keep track of the psi when I'm working but will guess it was in the 20-25 range. I will often blow on my hand in a way that I think would be needed to move the ink, then replicate that on my hand with the brush until it *feels* right. Of course, it can be adjusted as needed because some ink needs more (or less) pressure to behave the way you want it to. I hope that helps.

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My apologies for the delay in responding to your very kind comment. To be honest, I don't pay much attention to the psi; I gauge the force of the air by the size of the substrate and how it feels when I blow the airbrush against my hand, plus the "weight" of the ink (some colors need more pushing than others). This was an 8.5" x 5.5" piece, so I'll guess it was between 20 and 30 psi. It was my pleasure and I'm so pleased you got helpful information from this tutorial.

      Thank you, Kris! The airbrush and condenser unit are MasterPro brand. It's a junior system that can be purchased through Walmart, Amazon, etc. I considered a few points, including cost -- plus I wanted a condensation release valve (I live in a relatively humid region) and I wanted to be able to easily adjust the psi. The system I found (there are many out there, even just under the MasterPro brand) met my needs and had good reviews. I hope that helps.

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback, Maureen! I use Yupo from time to time; however, it really benefits from having a light backing (I use white cardstock) to highlight the piece. The photo quality paper is versatile because both sides can be used for different techniques with alcohol ink (and on the front glossy side, with water-based inks too).

    Could you please say what PSI setting you use your air compressor on for this. I have heard of a setting of 25 PSI, would that be appropriate for this technique.

    • @TheTallestOne
      @TheTallestOne 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My apologies for the belated response, Lyn. I don't have a "standard" psi setting for my work. It varies depending on what I need to make the ink move the way I need it to. For example, I've done pieces with a single flower bloom on a 12" x 12" substrate which means the petals and leaves are quite large. To get a consistent, smooth flow of ink to form such a large petal requires a higher psi. To be honest, I don't look at the gauge number as much as I pay attention to how the air feels (I aim the airbrush at my other hand to tell myself whether it will serve the purpose -- and adjust, as needed, while I'm working on the piece). I'm going to guess that, for this piece, the psi was in the neighbourhood of 20-25.

    • @Lyn4817
      @Lyn4817 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheTallestOne I understand what your saying, you have answered my question thanks. I have a large air compressor that I can control but was wondering what to aim for, if I was to get a mini hand unit to take out and about with me.
