Half-Life: The Lore Behind Antlions

- Antlions are an iconic creature found within the Half-Life universe. Within the sandy locations of the wasteland, and within nests constructed below the ground, the antlion species strike fear into those they come across on their path. Are they truly evil creatures or animals that have come to Earth after being pulled from Xen, simply attempting to set up a home for themselves here?
How dangerous are antions, how many variations of the magnificent creatures are there and what do the human population of Earth do to avoid their vicious attacks? I went to the wasteland in Half-Life to explore how the antlions roam the sandy shores, compete for meals and attack unsuspecting victims.

I think the healing properties of antlion larval extract is interesting, since it reminds me of the fact that real life blowfly larvae produce antiseptic secretions which can kill Methycilin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) bacteria.
Dude that’s cool. I had MRSA as a kid, so now I wonder if the doctors used something like that to get rid of it.

The antlion Guardian rules over one specific hive there was once the antlion king I'm not sure if he ruled over the biggest hive or if he just had control over all the antlions in general but he's the only antlion that has eyes he's probably almost totally blind because they're seriously small in the concept art compared to a 60-foot size I'm not sure if corn frame with supposed to kill the ant lion king or avoid him at all cost but in the beta there was one section where you just go through a cave and he gets mad at you for killing of his children (I really feel bad for the women of the hive) he was cut because in the past the ant lines were supposed to have one specific area and not leave their hive unless hunting which means they're probably be another antlion type called antlion scavengers but due to the fact that Airlines were supposed to be on the surface of Earth a lot more the antlion king got cut because it wouldn't fit the story of them.

Kinda weird how their colonys dont collapse due to lack of food, since they apparently hunted almost all other animals to extinction. And I doubt they catch enaugh humans or combine to feed the nest.
Now that is something to think about.
My theories:
1. After all the animals in the region have been hunted down, the only resort is for an occasional cannibalism and a temporary reproductional halt.
2. Absence of dense vegetation not only was because of the combine, but may also be the antlion's doing.
3. Headcrab infestation hotspots and zombie outbreaks or as antlions would call it - a food buffet. Have you seen the goddamn thngs? Zombies got their stomachs out, just asking to be munched on. Headcrabs literally look like undercooked turkey, ready to be stuffed with dilled potatoes with carrots and some garlic...GOD I'm hungry.

1hr 20 min into the original movie Dune, he sets a thumper to keep the worm away. As he sets it the sound of the worm is exactly like the ant lions. Kevin Bacon also used a lawn mower as a thumper.

Fun Fact: Antlions are the only living NPC in Half-Life 2 that can be gibbed. And a single-barrel shotgun blast can, and usually do gib them.

this isnt actually filmed in half life 2 but in gmod i think because the gordon freeman model is WAYYYYYYYYY different
gordon doesnt have a model in hl2, only an untextured version of his hl1 model
I wonder, whether the ability of these creatures to dig through sand, while also being repelled by thumpers is a conscious reference to Frank Herbert's Dune.
I love these guys, Nova Prospekt was my favourite chapter.
