Hi Otz, this is BHVR. We've heard your feedback and decided to increase the duration of key aura reading by 300%. Further more we've added the ability to steal the keys to the killer's house so you can rob them at your convenience.
The misconception is definitely due to 3 factors: 1) The effect is not as direct (keys help win chases, but toolboxes fix gens and medkits heal) 2) Keys are very addon reliant, with green keys being completely useless without addons 3) Keys may not be used in a trial (for example, you may not find hatch, but you'll definitely need to do gens and heal)
Keys are great. it is just that med-kits syringe are total busted. it is like. why bring a knife to a fight when you can bring a AR. even a regular med-kit single heal can often be the difference between escaping and not. they need to nerf self-healing from med-kits and syringes before anyone considers keys as an option.
Not to be a dick but basically you said- toolbox fix, med kit heal, key no find hatch but others help more. But what if survivors are running no mither? What if killer has Franklin's demise? All I'm saying wouldn't you want to bring a key if you know most of the time your team is gonna die and killer might find hatch, I'd say they have a higher chance of finding and closing it so its clutch if you bring the right one
@@ozitona7704 If your entire team dies, the chance you also die increases, keys are possibly the item with by far the most potential, but that's just it, potential. The other items have direct and instant effects, while keys (and maps to a certain degree) don't actually help you in all situations.

@@flamedramon68I had 20 flashlights from the Halloween event years ago. I wouldn’t use them because they’re neat and I can’t get them again. It took me like 3 years to actually start using them 😂
@@flamedramon68 yeah, a rule of thumb I actually use is: "If I am playing with friends I can use all juicy items". That way I can be a loot goblin when solo and not run out of them when playing with friends lol.
I think the reason keys aren't used are because: 1. They are rarere than other strong items which makes people want to horde them. 2. Other strong items solve annoying pain points. Medkits let you heal yourself without a teammate, toolboxes help with annoying gens, and flashlights open up for entirely new gameplay (flashysaves). 3. Keys are barely useable without add-ons while medkits, toolboxes, and flashlights function perfectly fine without add-ons. Add-on reliance also makes them a lot more complicated to bring, since you cant just throw a key and random add-ons without thinking (or it will at least not be that useful). 4. Keys don't have any common rarities (I don't count green keys) which means players don't have as much familiarity with them. Compared to medkits and toolboxes that are very common means players have way more familiarity. Even green keys aren't that common and them then being horrible then puts keys in a bad light. Edit: 5. Keys are really annoying to use effectively, since you have to hold -> release -> hold -> release for most of the chase. If you don't then you have considerably less usage in the key and get less value.
Great points. They should add a common rarity key, and all keys should open hatch. The only difference between the key rarities should be the mind channel base duration. Finding a green key in a chest is the worst feeling ever; most useless item in the game (without addons).

It's pretty similar to the keys but the blast mine and Wiretap combo is definitely my number favorite. You can do a Gen until you get both ready, and then head to a Gen in a strong tile, or even better, in shack, for some extremely easy looping. You could even place both perks onto a Gen with basically 0 progress, putting the killer in the biggest lose-lose position. It's either chase someone who basically has wall-hacks, leave, or kick a Gen that blows up on you, giving the survivor enough time to hide/leave
The problem is that many players struggle with keys for one major reason. They don't know how to loop. Information is only as useful as the person who knows how to use it. Otz can see what the killer is doing and determine what strategy/ mixup they are trying given the tile layout.
Agreed, its hard enough to remember each loop and how to run them. And then try adding in the channel ability without running into a wall. Its definitely not for beginners.
I like the key add on that allows me to see the obsession, it’s really nice for running bodyguard builds. The best part is that you don’t use the key energy for it
I remember demi having a build with object if Obsession and a few other aura reading perks plus the key and he basically had wallhacks the whole game 😂
i’m surprised people don’t use troubleshooter as much, even tho it a similar effect to keys + you can use it as long as there’s pallets up. i’m definitely going to use it more with trevor’s new perk coming out i’m really excited
Also with a build to use that key or even just the key itself, just use it regularly on high loops (big walls), turning it off and on might get you hit because as you can see more than one time otz saw their aura but when he turned off the key they switch directions and he didn't realize as fast as he should've with a key, so don't be afraid of "wasting it", you're not wasting it, you're using it as intended, it's better to have a few very strong seconds than not using properly and getting down with half the key charges up. To clarify, I'm not saying nothing negative towards otz, I'm just sharing knowledge that might be helpful to somebody. And the logic behind is that it's better to have a really solid 30 seconds against a good or strong killer that can end the chase with a good mindgame or good usage of their power, but you seeing everything for those 30 seconds not only buys you those 30s which is huge, you can also take a good decision based on that information that can buy you even more time. As opposed to turning it on and off you might miss the important part and get hit for not using your item to it's full potential.
6:10 i wish they would remove map offerings entirely. It's so freaking annoying to see the same maps over and over again just because they are "easy" to play. No one should be able to rig the game in their favor like that.
The only thing I would miss is playing Mirror Myers but if that's the sacrifice I need to make for survivors not rigging the match at the start, I'll take it.
I love using keys with the addon of seeing the aura of the obsession all the time, i see a bunch of killers using the perk "friends till the end" and also, with the key, the perk "blood pact" became way valuable
There's a brown offering for Huntress that's called like a rough stone or something, and it's REALLY strong (unless they've changed it by now). It increases sounds of pain from survivors by 150%, and it makes it so much easier to track them by ear (which can also combat Iron Will!)
I feel like this video didn’t show off the help of the key super well. In a lot of its uses you could see the red stain before or just as the key was fully channeled because the channeling takes so long. It also lasts for such a little amount of time so one needs to bring built to last or use it very sparingly. Still a fun video to watch!
I see your point on the red stain, but consider the following: Moonwalking and similar is still a common choice for mind game, and it completely falls apart when you have the key aura read and can *see* what direction they're actually walking in. Seeing the red stain doesn't always mean they're going where you think they're going
@@Taylor_mamaof2 okay. Again. Moonwalking, which was the first thing I said. The red stain is facing one direction, and that is not where the killer is walking.
The first chase with huntress used the key well, but yeah aside from that it didn't look too helpful. Harder to use than other items, inconsistent in value, and rare.
I don't use keys because I'm around p40 and have maybe 10 of the good ones. They just seem so rare on my bloodweb that i very rarely want to use them. That's not even touching on the needed add-ons. Meanwhile, i have a shitload of medkits, toolboxes, and flashlights sitting around.

Another fun way to use the Green key is to use it as a pseudo Bond. It's great in solo Q. I've been running it with Strength In Shadows, Botany, MoM or Desperate Measures, and SB. Stupid fun build. Try it
Cool video, I honestly had no idea surviors can use keys like this, but I also never really saw it. On the map offering comment though - in my experience, the map offerings got more used after the blood moon event earlier this year. Ever since, I'd say, I see map offerings in like 60-70 % of my games, but also more sacrificial wards. 🤔
Did not know keys worked this way...will be good to use with that kate perk to see pallets + the key to see the killer...will be easier for me to learn how things really work now thanks
My favorite underrated combo is the Needle & Thread + Surgical Suture addon for Med-Kits. Takes a bit of skill to use but, the benefit has definitely saved me while playing survivor.
@@MaxBrian-xd5cb thats really niche though, it might be rather useful against a totem trapper but will do nothing against a pain res grim embrace blight
I have a theory about why good perks and items go under used; ease of use. Look at the most popular perks on both sides, they require little or no input from the player. Off the Record, Adrenaline, and Windows of Opportunity are all super popular survivor perks that take literally ZERO effort on the user's part to make use of. On the killer side you have Nowhere to Hide, Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, and Pop Goes the Weasel are all perks that reward you for just doing what you're supposed to do in a game. DBD players want the biggest bang for minimum work. I'm not saying EVERY player is like this, or that they don't use perks that require brain wave activity to use, but most players want whatever is easiest to use with the strongest impact.
I feel like the reason for this is that in a lot of matches, every minute counts. Things go by fast, so using perks that contain side objectives (survivor totem perks, etc.) take up valuable time that could be sent healing others or doing gens. I know most of the time when I see somebody doing a totem I'm thinking "if I don't hear the hex cleanse sound I'm going to scream" because even if they're using a perk, it feels like they're wasting time
My go-to build for like a full year has been this key + Built to Last and whatever else you feel like bringing (I like Alert and Troubleshooter with those, and I feel Eyes of Belmont will go along great with it). My chases last indefinitely and I have near-infinite key juice. I still don't understand how this isn't meta, it's stupidly broken, I've had quite a few killers accuse me of wall hacking until I told them to check my loadout lol. Also on top of aura reading and the option to open hatch, you also get window techs since channeling the key removes collision with the killer when they're vaulting. Even more chase options!
Information in general i feel is pretty underrated in this game. Anything that gives you easy info is inherently decent at the very least. Especially unblockable info like surveillance or just the crows around the map.
Calm Spirit is also pretty strong, especially if you get a doctor, I use it a lot now, just because they did have you scream for the alien perk, and for the chucky perk, then theres also the plague perk that makes you scream.
I feel like a part of the problem is that with the channeling time, it takes good timing to get the most out of the item, giving it a skill floor that no items really had ever since flashlights got their timing massively improved. I notice that while otz did get some good uses out of the aura reading that guarenteed he made the right play, a lot of the time all he'd do instead is see the aura of the killer as their red stain was already turning the corner anyways
Pink/Purple keys are insane and I still cannot believe they allow BTL to reset them. 8:59 as someone who does not like this bug, and yes it is a bug otherwise it would also work against M1, it was so satisfying watching him get hit here.
Try using the event map that spawns blood when you use it, but when you are healthy. Use it when a teammate loses line of sight and trick the killer with a 50/50 between following your bloody scratch marks and your teammate's bloody scratch marks.
Keys are great with those addons, but I think people prefer thr other items because they have a direct effect and it doesn't require any skill to use: toolboxes repair gens faster and medkits allow you to self heal. That being said, I think that maps are underrated, I love using inner healing with counterforce and if you're not very experienced, you'll not know all the totem spawns and sometimes generator spawns. If the killer has any hex build, it's a super powerful counter, if not, you get a lot of free heals so you can take protection hits.
U cud have escaped if yui who had never been hooked took a hit and got hooked honeslty I hate people who hide around corners and never want to get hooked. If they do it’ll make escaping much easier
Oh god, not sure if I was the Huntress in the first match, but I've been chased around that same building recently and had no idea how I never could "mind game" them LOL
Kind of unrelated but about keys, I really enjoyed 2v8 giving more than one Survivor the chance at hatch. I know why it was changed back in the day, but the days when multiple Survivors could get out the hatch in 4v1 was fun.
I’ve always thought a key (not green) with bloody amber was a super underrated item. I don’t use it much because I suck in chase, but I do usually get them if I can.
My favorite underrated perk is one people know is good, but people don't realize *how* good - We'll Make It. I genuinely believe it is the best perk in the game. What perk can claim absurd efficiency (16s of total survivor time saved with every unhook heal) AND be a useful anti-tunnel tool. Nothing can quite compete with that.
Except I always waste all my key charges lol Something I don't see a lot is Make your choice + devour hope, you hook someone, expose the rescuer, down them, hook, get a devour stack repeat for super devour chain
Do these games actually showcase how useful keys are and I'm just blind? Except for seeing that the Nemesis didn't do a mind game at shack and arguably the Chucky not mind gaming at that one loop I didn't really notice any information or use I wouldn't have normally gotten. Feel free to educate me on all of that cause I'd actually like to be enlightened on whatever I actually might've missed out on.
@@gorgitI think it really wasn't even that crazy value, it was a good moment but there's a chance you naturally mind game that long or for the cost of that pallet could have had the same length chase without the key
@@METSMETSMETS yes, but the key makes such situations reliable, not rng. Credit where credit is due, this dude looped the killer for 40 secs without being in any danger. Thats 120 sec on generators, way better than any toolbox
Well, A key, With a specific add-on is strong. Don't get me wrong I love the two other add-ons that actually make them do something other then open the hatch or not do anything however it's less so keys are strong and blood amber is. I would honestly give up that add-on for a rework of all the others, Like replace one of the range add-ons for like, Revealing chests or the furthest totem or something silly like that.
The problem is the combination being too high rarity. Im not running it with green since i want the option for hatch if im bringing a key and purple is worse than green so that only leaves pink. then you need the addons to get good value. Everyone prioritzes medkits, toolbox, and flashlights with their offerings too. I cant run keys since i dont have them consistently
I think its due to the fact that they feel like waste, a key to many feels like 4/10 games theres value. And when it comes to the meta perks theres a 10/10 game value. Also might not happen much anymore, but keys used to get tunneled.

Trust me, you'll end up having way too many of them to use at one point or another. Just go for it! Besides, you can always get more.
Otz day 1: i'll make a video showing that ppl forgot just how good keys are
Otz day 30: ill make a video showing everyone using keys and why keys are a problem
Otz day 60: Hello friends, this is Otz - according to your regularly scheduled programming - and today we are going to see what _bE_ has said in their dev update.
Part of it is that in the era when hatch could spawn with more than 1 surv left alive, bringing a key meant you were getting omega-tunneled
I love the fact that in almost every video he say something about the game I’ve ever noticed (like the smoke thing to find the exit way on that map)
Another fun way to use the Green key is to use it as a pseudo Bond. It's great in solo Q. I've been running it with Strength In Shadows, Botany, MoM or Desperate Measures, and SB. Stupid fun build. Try it
19:15 look around for smoke for the exit gates - i have to take a look, no clue how it looks like, i just look for the "towers" of the gate
It has been a good while since I've played DBD, but I'll never skip one of Otz's videos
My favorite underrated combo is the Needle & Thread + Surgical Suture addon for Med-Kits. Takes a bit of skill to use but, the benefit has definitely saved me while playing survivor.
Let’s be real, there are a lot of strong options in DBD that nobody uses solely because they aren’t talked about on TH-cam or Reddit.
Such as?
The map add on that reveals totems or killer’s belongings like traps
@@nicholite697 Green key :)
@@nicholite697The perk wicked that literally nobody uses
Otz your right keys are strong. One more thing thanks for this amazing video. 1:15
Otz: Tries to advertise the strength of keys...
Me: Damn, Iron Will goes hard.
Otz was literally just slamming keys the other day ._.
it doesnt matter how many videos you make, ILL NEVER STOP HOARDING!!!!
2:27 "extremely focus face" its more a "please dont die laurie face" 😂
Doing keys with built to last and streetwise is even better because you can truly use so much through the match
Information in general i feel is pretty underrated in this game. Anything that gives you easy info is inherently decent at the very least.
Especially unblockable info like surveillance or just the crows around the map.
Calm Spirit is also pretty strong, especially if you get a doctor, I use it a lot now, just because they did have you scream for the alien perk, and for the chucky perk, then theres also the plague perk that makes you scream.
hope your vacation is going well ❤️ thanks so much for the videos otz
I feel like a part of the problem is that with the channeling time, it takes good timing to get the most out of the item, giving it a skill floor that no items really had ever since flashlights got their timing massively improved. I notice that while otz did get some good uses out of the aura reading that guarenteed he made the right play, a lot of the time all he'd do instead is see the aura of the killer as their red stain was already turning the corner anyways
2:15 I've never seen a more focused face than this.
Hi Otz, this is BHVR. We've reviewed your feedback about Key and we have decided to nerd the Pig.
Pink/Purple keys are insane and I still cannot believe they allow BTL to reset them.
8:59 as someone who does not like this bug, and yes it is a bug otherwise it would also work against M1, it was so satisfying watching him get hit here.
that 1st Blight hug hit was insane
2:45 I hate having teammates like that Claudette, did nothing for more than a minute
i love the way otz uses sheva, i never see her AND shes my fav re character
I big thing ive always noticed when i played alot was using a key often puts a target on your back if the killer notices you brought one.
Try using the event map that spawns blood when you use it, but when you are healthy. Use it when a teammate loses line of sight and trick the killer with a 50/50 between following your bloody scratch marks and your teammate's bloody scratch marks.
I speak for everyone when I say we need to see more of otz in tank tops🤭
Keys are great with those addons, but I think people prefer thr other items because they have a direct effect and it doesn't require any skill to use: toolboxes repair gens faster and medkits allow you to self heal. That being said, I think that maps are underrated, I love using inner healing with counterforce and if you're not very experienced, you'll not know all the totem spawns and sometimes generator spawns. If the killer has any hex build, it's a super powerful counter, if not, you get a lot of free heals so you can take protection hits.
Yesterday i played some games using this exact key, i must agree that keys are underrated, it rly felt good have all that aura reading
U cud have escaped if yui who had never been hooked took a hit and got hooked honeslty I hate people who hide around corners and never want to get hooked. If they do it’ll make escaping much easier
Am saving my keys to when they eventually rework them and make them even stronger. Loot goblin mentality
And here I was wondering why I suddenly saw a key every single match for the past 4 hours
"Otz and Keys: The Compilation"
You should make more videos of underrated perks or items that players perhaps overlook
I always thought a comp showcase with blood ambers would be the silliest thing imaginable.
I remember using keys and maps every time cause it was easy to track everything, they just make you a target lol
Oh god, not sure if I was the Huntress in the first match, but I've been chased around that same building recently and had no idea how I never could "mind game" them LOL
13:25 Sick adrenaline timing!
the thumbnail ateeee queen sheva
Kind of unrelated but about keys, I really enjoyed 2v8 giving more than one Survivor the chance at hatch. I know why it was changed back in the day, but the days when multiple Survivors could get out the hatch in 4v1 was fun.
It was fun for survivors, sure. But for killer, it's not very much fun when more than one survivor gets out just because they said so
I’ve always thought a key (not green) with bloody amber was a super underrated item. I don’t use it much because I suck in chase, but I do usually get them if I can.
17:32 is proof that Otz is actually connected to others via Bluetooth and is communicating that way, prove me wrong.
Hey Otz. That huntress might have been me If it was, huge GGs.
Nothing can quite compete with that.
i could not stop myself from running keys or object for 4 solid months. it was an obsession for sure.
New Trevor Belmont perk gonna make keys go to the moon
It can also be used as a Bond-At-Home for the majority of the match with the right addons
Otz all you’ve convinced me is that keys are absolutely useless lol.
Man first time this early ever and thank god it was for otz!!!!!❤
Except I always waste all my key charges lol
Something I don't see a lot is Make your choice + devour hope, you hook someone, expose the rescuer, down them, hook, get a devour stack repeat for super devour chain
another strong oatsdarba video 💖
I haven’t used them bc I’m still mentally stuck in the old times where killers would tunnel if they saw you bring a key
I live for Otz’s looping
Do these games actually showcase how useful keys are and I'm just blind? Except for seeing that the Nemesis didn't do a mind game at shack and arguably the Chucky not mind gaming at that one loop I didn't really notice any information or use I wouldn't have normally gotten.
Feel free to educate me on all of that cause I'd actually like to be enlightened on whatever I actually might've missed out on.
I thought he really outplayed the huntress that one time, but besides that, yeah, I also failed to see value
@@gorgit Yeah, in the Huntress chase the key had immense value
@@gorgitI think it really wasn't even that crazy value, it was a good moment but there's a chance you naturally mind game that long or for the cost of that pallet could have had the same length chase without the key
@@METSMETSMETS yes, but the key makes such situations reliable, not rng. Credit where credit is due, this dude looped the killer for 40 secs without being in any danger. Thats 120 sec on generators, way better than any toolbox
@@gorgit same value out of a flashlight in that chase
Otzdarva please make a tierlist video ranking your tierlist videos
cause the meta stuff and your own skill combined is an incredibly easy and reliable thing to use daily
I'm still so very happy broken keys are still in chests. Glorious. Genius. Unbelievable.
Right! I always tell my viewers, but they never trust the process.
Before this video, I didn't know keys could be recharger by going into a locker during the match!
It doesn’t, unless you have Felix’s perk
Te das cuenta de que adrenalina fue tan epico en ese momento? omg el timing
I have no idea why I have never thought of using built to last with a key 🤦🏾♂️
I use streetwise, built to last, and open hand with keys. Know where the killer is all game, lol.
The blight was a nice individual, from what was shown in the video.
17:15 On todays episode of grand designs with Otzdarva
The problem is the combination being too high rarity. Im not running it with green since i want the option for hatch if im bringing a key and purple is worse than green so that only leaves pink. then you need the addons to get good value. Everyone prioritzes medkits, toolbox, and flashlights with their offerings too. I cant run keys since i dont have them consistently
I think its due to the fact that they feel like waste, a key to many feels like 4/10 games theres value. And when it comes to the meta perks theres a 10/10 game value. Also might not happen much anymore, but keys used to get tunneled.
I love using the skeleton key with the aura add one, I'm currently getting nea to p100 (she's 82) and I've saved up about 52 skeleton keys
