Love that there's a little of Martin's lead vocal in every album. Martin's lead contributions seems underrated compared to the rest of their material. Unmistakably soothing vibrato.
Shaking my idol Martin's hand in 2009 (and also meeting him in 1994 as well) will be two of the greatest moments in my life.... Glad you loved this one! ❤️
@@jediwalker2010 well, VERY drunk and falling over backstage in 1994 (I think we were the only ones to get his autograph that night due to my persistent best friend), and more shy/reserved (his young son was with him) in 2009 backstage. But then I knew it was my only shot, so I went for the handshake, and said best friend went big and bold and she actually kissed him on the cheek!! Sadly both times Dave wasn't present, so it's not in the cards for me to ever meet him, but I also met Alan the first time around, which of course was EVERYTHING... 😊
“And I am a Martin stan.” 😂 I have to admit he does have the voice of an angel. When I was a kid I didn’t realize there were two different people singing at times and credited Dave with all the amazing vocals. Glad I finally learned the truth years later. If you’re looking for recs from them, my favorites are Everything Counts and Precious. But I’d be happy with anything. I’m so happy you fell in love with this band!
I live for two things from you: your witty, hilarious observations and your DM reactions. In this case I enjoyed your silence (haha).... There is no voice like Martin's; I remember once telling a friend at a concert no one is allowed to speak to me during a Martin solo 🤣🤣. It was great to watch you listen for the first time to this beautiful song. So many on my wish list but I hope you try shake the disease or Stripped next! PS in high school I bought shoes just like Martin's and had them resoled at least 5x
Glad you have discovered and are loving the music of Depeche Mode - they are a talented bunch, especially Martin. If you would like to see/react to Martin signing a truly lovely live version of "But not tonight" from only a few years ago (Austin City Limits concert) then you will not be disappointed. Loving the content btw!
An iconic anthem of unapologetic emotionality and pure love, and all the fears and joy that comes with such a beautiful stretch of these undeniable moments. Wonderful reaction, love your overview, as I always do - thank you, sincerely Bryson for this awesome reaction video.
The funniest part of this video is the beginning... it's actual footage of Martin in a bar. Apparently it was his habit in these days to drink to excess and strip his clothes off in public. The video director heard this and decided to film... what resulted is DM's bodyguard (the bald guy in front), Fletch, Dave, and Andy Franks (tour manager) trying to desperately shield Martin's naughty bits from the camera. Martin then jumps on Fletch's back!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude It's really funny but also sad. Martin is apparently extremely introverted and shy, and for many years, the only way he could feel comfortable was to drink to excess - when he could come out of his shell. Luckily, around 2008/09 he got sober for good.
not sure if anyone is going to read that comment but i never noticed the beginning of the video and never heard of that specific story. lol. thats just hilarious. thanks for sharing. you just have to love them!!! seeing andy laughing here just makes my heart heavy again. missed but surely not forgotten!
"Stripped", "Black celebration", "Everything counts", "Nothing", "Blasphemous rumours", "I feel you", "Useless", "Halo", "World in my eyes", "Waiting for the night", "Soothe my soul" and so many more still to check out.
I love how much you love Depeche Mode, takes me back to my late teens early 20s when I found them! I love Depeche Mode! I must’ve played their greatest hits album incessantly for two years straight.
Ha! I was just going to suggest that you react to this song it's one of my favorites. And it's funny that you mentioned People are People. Martin Gore has actually said in an interview that People are People is his least favorite song. "Blue Dress" is another favorite of mine that Martin sings.
Really great reviews you are doing. This song is taken from the underrated album Black Celebration. Which also contains the really great number Stripped( do take a listen to it) .The album never reached high levels on the charts. But it's a very beautiful album. I believe that Depeche Mode, where ahead of their time, making music, in the 80's I was so lucky, to be a young teenager in the 80's, growing up with Depeche Mode's music. If you listen to their musicperiod from 81 to 93. You will learn how much they are constantly evolving Especially from 83 to 93, when Alan Wilder was a member of the band (a great keyboardplayer, producer and soundman). He made a huge impact on the band, in this period. He also wrote a couple of songs to. Songs to listen to: Everything Counts, Get the Balance right, Shake the disease, Master and Servant, Blasphemous Rumours, Stripped, Behind the Wheel(Album version) and Strangelove.
Love your reactions as usual! Yeah Martin's voice is incredible, and he can make it sound sweet like in this song, or more sinister in others. It's quite the gift. As others have said I'd love to see you react to Shake the Disease. It's also from this era
The mid 1980ies were the best time of my life, and Depeche Mode delivered the sound. What better could have happened to me, as a German, as gay guy in this phenomenal decade? Nothing!
Oh god I absolutely love you. This was amazing. It took me back to College but was a gift watching you discover this for the first time. Love love love you♥️
Hey PMD once again you did an awesome reaction to a DM video. I recommend either "Insight" it is kind on a slow song that Dave sings also " Barrel Of A Gun" which is a hard hitting song i think it is about the paranoid feeling one gets from the high of a drug they are both from the Ultra album which DM's sound changes due to that Alan Wilder had left the band
Hey PMD listening to your reactions i know your a fan of Martin's voice another great song that he sings is "Any Second Now" from there Speak And Spell album it was of DM's first album they released back in 1981.
DM is my biggest love, I started watching your reaction video, then I went to George Michael and INXS. But Martin is the angel we all love - check out "One Caress", "Motherless child"(cover but), "But Not tonight" in Austin City live, the list in endless.
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude Their two biggest songs are "The Killing Moon" (can't see his bouffant in that video though) and "Lips Like Sugar". I think you might prefer "Bring on the Dancing Horses." That one was in the movie Pretty in Pink.
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude This song comes off of the Black Celebration album (1986). Followed up by Music for the Masses (1987). As a huge DM fan, i bounce back and forth between those 2 albums as the penultimate DM album of all time. People are People and Somebody, which you've reviewed, pre-dated these albums. Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence followed those. (Never Let Me Down was on Masses). There are solid gems from before and after these 2 albums. But if you really want to go down the rabbit hole, or spend a couple of hours listening to some of the best music ever, start with Black Celebration and Music for the Masses, and branch out from there. And I'm so happy you're enjoying this band so much.
Oh and yeah, speaking of versatility, and Dave Gahan's voice as contrast - I strongly recommend Depeche Mode's *Wrong* as your next reaction - the video in addition to the lyrical content is certain to appease a stranger side of psychology. 😜
current depeche mode is still great, you should react to songs from the latest albums like wrong, should be higher, where's the revolution, scum etc! Martin gore is a musical genius!
Home has to be the ultimate Depeche Mode song sung by Martin. It’s my favourite of all Depeche Mode songs, so I’m biased. But you won’t regret it. If you do, go for the album version and not the video. It’s a longer play out and all the better for it. But this is awesome too. Obviously :-)
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude d’oh! I bet I commented on it too! In fact I remember now. Lol. Ok then, try Judas from Songs Of Faith And Devotion. You are right. Martin has one of the most beautiful voices in music. That one band has two such unbelievable but so different singers. It’s insane!
How's that for an alternate lead singer? Breathless.

Shake the Disease features both my boys
A voice of an angel! Love him, this song and this band very much! One of the best ever!
