The melody that starts at 9:12 is so beautiful. This song rides that beautiful line between darkness and hope. It's elegant and graceful and timeless. The type of song generation after generation cannot relate to and connect with.
It's really well complemented by the crowd chanting it, and it's also one of the best moments at their concerts, shadowed IMO only by the sea of hands on Never let me down again. The moment the melody kicks in you can already see fans that know what's coming throwing their hands up and then Dave takes the energy and leads the crowd into the collective clapping which has basically become a DM live standard. They are truly unique live and have to be experienced.
I met the band when I was 11 years old, got the LP "Speak & Spell" as a gift. Loved the music right away. Followed everything on RADIO, then they became better known. I had my first concert on 22.11.1984. - sweet 13 years old. "Enjoy the Silence", made decent girls not will-less "devotees" - But an everlasting love
When my girl was around five, i was going through a phase of listening repeatedly '' Songs of Faith and Devotion'' and one day she was having her bath, i was close keeping an an eye and ear but not in the same room and while she was playing she was humming and trying to sing '''Enjoy the Silence''. I was puffing my breast in pride like a bird in heat, and mind you English is not our mother tongue. Depeche Mode are beyond times, generations, languages and cultures. They are universal and timeless.
Songs of faith and Devotion is by far their best album, but recorded in their darkest times I remember back then and still do to this date every track on that album a part of me could relate to it.
I discovered DM when I was 15. It was a bootleg tape I bought in one of the lowest rawest neighborhoods of a big city in Mexico... didn't understand a word but instantly fell in love with the sound. Non-stop since then. Just hit 50 and it NEVER gets old. DM forever mate!!! 🇲🇽🇬🇧🇺🇲
Love this and your bonding with your daughter. I am 70 and first saw them in Chicago with my now 40 year old and 50 year son. My youngest got so excited he almost broke my ribs. Also my experience way too close to the mosh pit LOL. When they perform you can't help singing with them. I'm sitting here watching this singing. It's what makes this kind of talent stand out. Same with Erasure. Backstage after a concert once I told Andy Bell how good I felt, relaxed and happy. He said "Great because it is exactly what we're trying to do." I'm old enough to have experienced many decades of music and I still favor the 80's.
I’m happy to read your post too! As Erasure is my very very top favorite-have seen many times and will continue. Then along with DM, OMD, Howard Jones and The Cure...that’s just fabulous, real music. Always nice for the younger kids to grasp and appreciate! I have one 14 year boy that would go to every concert with me, but my 14 yr old girl no way!
Martin Gore's tenor voice contrasting Dave Gahan’s baritone along with Christian Eigner powerful and precise drumming are what always stood out to me...Timeless.
Bauhaus, early Human League, Souxsie Sioux, Alison Moyet, Big Country, Deacon Blue, Japan, Simply Red, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, Erasure, The Style Council, Tears for Fears, Ultravox, Simple Minds and that's just SOME from just the 80's (haven't even touched on the big stars like Bowie, Elton, The Stones et al). :)
I have no doubt that Depeche Mode in the future will be said to be the best group in history. I've been to about 20 of their concerts. Enjoy the Silence is another work of art
I was playing a TH-cam mix of DM on our TV and one of their live videos came up and it showed a full stadium like this and my 13-year-old daughter looked up and asked: "They filled stadiums like that"? And I was nodding and said "Honey, they still do today." I saw them live on their Music for the Masses tour in Miami. Love them.
Dave Gahan doesn't get enough credit for being a great front man for a band.....Depeche Mode use to be my most favorite band. I missed their last couple of concerts, but they are still one of my favorites. You should do the live version of Should be Higher......Live in Berlin
My brother was in the first gulf War and I turned into a teenager while he was gone he left a mix tape for me this was on it and he'd put a voice message on it saying this song was his message to me in case he never came back home he's 8 yrs older than me and basically brought me up, I'm 43 now and I still have that tape and I still cry to this song, this song has many different meanings to every person that listens to it that's the power of Depeche mode
Saw them in Dallas maybe 8 years ago. It was the most magical experience I've ever had aside from having my daughter. Dave was dancing the entire time. Martin changed guitars at least 5 times. It was BEAUTIFUL.
A few days ago I heard this song in a goth dance club. They were playing the music video on a screen and I was just sitting there tipsy just completely captivated by it. I ran across the dance floor to my friend to ask her what song it was. I haven’t stopped listening since lol.
I’ve seen them twice, Tour of the Universe (their kick-off show in Luxembourg! 😍) in 2009 and the Global Spirit tour in 2017, they never fail to amaze me, I grew up with their music, seeing this video gives my goosebumps goosebumps! 😅❤️
I live on the cusp of of the Central Coast and NorCal. I couldn’t afford to see them in ‘09 (They cancelled the show at my nearest venue because of issues with Dave’s voice anyways.) However, I was saw them on the next two tours. I can’t wait to see them get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020!
I took my 13 year old daughter to see them in Vegas last week. This of course after exposing her to their music as they’re my favorite band. She had a blast!
Dave doesn't bother singing after the first few minutes. After that he's feeding off of the audience, enjoying them enjoying the band. It's so good to watch. I've never seen this clip before. Thanks for sharing it you guys. You guys got good taste in music. Great to see Annie getting "culture" lessons from her dad too !!
Welcome to Depeche Mode. They moved us up here in Germany for 40 years and I've seen them performing live nearly 20 times. Best concert for me was spending my 18th birthday in 1987 in Berlin with 16000 people during the Music for the Masses tour.
@@drainpig894Unfortunately I have a lot of copyright issues with studio tracks. I do get some out there but it is difficult so i work to find a really solid live version when i have to.
Random comment, but I found this video really touching. I love kids and when I was 14, my childhood was ripped from me. It's nice to see a 14 year old happy and safe.
I spent 5 years in the UK during the early 80's watching this conveyor belt of talent like Depeche Mode just keep coming off the production line. It was the best time of my life.
I am a Depeche Mode Grandma freek. My son who is almost 40 and my teenage granddaughter is a huge fan. I have seen them in concert in the 80s and 90s. I heard they are doing another tour. They transformed my musical life. I am a guitarist from the age of 7 years old. Martin the guitarist in Depeche Mode and sound genius made me feel music so much different. My twin sister and I were nuts on the dance floor when a Depeche Mode song came on. We are almost the same age as the members of the band. Your mother is my son's generation experiencing this music. Depeche forever. I am up in my living room going nuts to this. I have a copy of their concert from several years ago. I'm going to put it on now and dance my ass off. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Stumbled upon your Depeche Mode review today, fantastic to see someone so young appreciating this iconic British band, who I have followed for the last 40 years and yes your right, they really excel live. I look forward to watch another of your reviews
Yeah, the boys from Basildon. Only Andy still lives in London, Dave lives in NY and Martin in Santa Barbera, so they don't see that much of eachother, but they are still so HUMBLE, bless them.
I've watched that particular video probably a hundred times. They have SO many great songs! I can only imagine going to one of their live concerts. Your daughter should see Dave when he was younger with that beautiful long hair! He still looks wonderful. I thought I liked the Beatles in high school, but this band just blows me away!
Good evening Pasadena. Was there, back when all tickets to a concert stadium where general admission. Totally missing those days, you didn't have to be rich to see amazing concert's.
I’m 42 I still get goose bumps every time I hear this song like it was the first. One of my favorite intros too a song it just gets me every time. Check out the music video for this song done on top of the World Trade Center
I was at the concert with my parents and it was great, here in germany depeche mode is a big thing. we supported them since they were a little band that played in bars and in front of 500 people.
I was just adding some new DM remixes to my never ending playlist when I saw your video. My girl is also teen and grew up with DM since she was a baby. She loves them, even suggested to go to see them in Europe this summer. Well Bratislava here we come to see family first, but DM as well. Dreams do come true sometimes.
I've loved Depeche Mode since I first heard them in 1981. I saw them live in Sweden in Malmö Arena some years ago and it was the best concert I've ever been to. So lovely to watch you showing those epic moments to her❤
I envy that girl hearing this first time ever! I started listening to Depeche Mode at 13.After 16 years I"m really grateful my dad for covincing me to DM. Band of my life
This song is my favorite song of all time. My kids now like Depeche Mode. There will never be another DP group ever again Dave Gahan is a fantastic singer theres no words to describe him.
"it gave me life". Yes. That's exactly what it is, plus more. A spectacle that's hard to top. One of my favourite records of all time, delivered with such panache and with an absolute killer middle section that was totally unexpected. Just total joy.
This reminds me of my 2 sons many years ago listening to my vinyl of DM 20 years ago,and to this day they are still their favourite band.Good to see its still carrying on.
I have an 18 year old son and I feel lucky that he also likes Depeche Mode as well as other New Wave groups from the 80s (I'm a fan of that music) and I must admit that it's amazing when you enjoy a song like Enjoy The Silence with your son. I congratulate you for sharing those moments with your daughter and although it sounds presumptuous I must say that we are fortunate to know this music and share it with those we love the most, success and greetings from Peru
I'm so envious. I worked in record stores for a lot of my adult life. I'm 52 now. "All I ever wanted, all I ever needed", was my own child to introduce good music to. It's a blast to watch you and your daughter. Hugs and long live ROCK. Have a great day.
I remember hearing this song and this album for the first time when I was 10 in Eastern Europe. I was mesmerized and my little heart would love this band till this day. I'm 43.
Just round the corner. I’m watching from Eastwood. I remember watching them for the first time in Crocs. Or The Pink Toothbrush as it’s known now in Rayleigh.
Coming back to this after having just seen them perform this version at Twickenham, London UK ... it remains such a party moment. Just nothing beats a full stadium full of fans screaming the song out at the top of their lungs ... DM still knows how to do it right!
My fav band since as I got in to them in 1989. Seen them on every tour since. Dave Gahan is an absolute stellar front man. They’re simply superb live. I’ve said to many folks that even if you don’t particularly care for the music it’s worth seeing their stage performance, more often than not, created by the equally wonderful Anton Corbijn.
Still a great concert but you should have shown Devotional Tour of '93 - Enjoy The Silence version to your daughter. That's probably one of DM's best ever concert.
I've listened to Depeche Mode for longer than my girlfriend has been alive. 😁 They are without a doubt the Gods of music, masters of sound, and the voices of angels.
This is so AMAZING. Loved watching her reaction. You can just tell how blown away she was. Only thing is dad you shouldn’t of paused it at. She was in a moment.
Love seeing more people my age listening to DM! I’m 20 now and and my dad introduced them to me at 11 and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Live in Barcelona 2009 has been my go to live concert to watch on TH-cam. My dad and I flew to Boston the summer of 2018 to see them live and it was the best concert I’ve been to. Dave is always just a great performer. I got “Personal Jesus” tattooed on my left forearm the day I turned 18 and everyone was ecstatic to see it at the concert. Depeche Mode forever!
I took my then 13 yo son to see them in London in 2013. It was such an amazing experience to see them in London with him since he has been brought up on their music. They are the best!
Mad respect. 👊 i took my boys to their first concert, Foo Fighters, The Tubes, and ZZTop cause since I was 16, I’ve been going to concerts and wanted them to experience and feel what I did then.
When Depeche Mode play live everyone believes in God, and his name is Dave, he has that unique ability, to hold a hundred thousand people in the palm of his hand, obeying his every word. Depeche Mode songs are the hymns for the 20th century.
Even the used synthesizers were classical 80s. It's a popular misconception to believe that the beginning of a new decade would change the sound of music immediately. Until 1982 music was very 70s.
It's so awesome that you show your daughter classic music like this. I grew up with my parents listening to this stuff, was born in 1985. Even though I'm a metal guy, Depeche Mode will always be one of my favorite bands.
Depeche Mode is my all-time favorite band. Literally have seen them ~30 times live. This really made me smile that you could share this with your daughter. My daughter is going to be 25 this year and I get so much joy showing her things that made me happy from years ago. I’m looking forward to watching your other videos. And “it gave me life” is the greatest compliment. She will never forget doing these things with you. Thank you.
Depeche Mode spoke to people on a very personal level. Music is subjective and we take things from songs from many genres but this performance haunts me. The band interaction the way Dave holds the crowd in his hand 🤟 and those lyrics oh wow the lyrics are a life we all lead
It definitely has that 80's sound to it, but I can't believe how modern it sounds at the same time. Haven't heard the song in years and I can still remember most of the lyrics.
Dad, your enthusiasm is fantastic. I think you and I both know it means more to us who grew up with them but you've done a great job educating your daughter. I'm seeing them in July in Rome for the first time and can't wait. Hope you have tickets for their latest tour too.
You just cant imagine the love in these crowds back then..the energy. People you dont even know all singing and loving the music and each other. Swaying. Hugging strangers...pure love. This band...wow nothing like them...all the way back to the 80s. Thank you for facilitating this reaction. These really warm my heart!!! Dallas here ...play her some pink floyd live shiws. Texas stadium...UN BELIEVABLE LIVE SHOWS!!

@@jbp929 Oops. My bad. But my point still stands 😁
I’m 50 and I’ve been playing DM since 1982!!
They are still magic! 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Same ☝🏾
I discovered DM when I was 15.
He said "Great because it is exactly what we're trying to do."
I'm old enough to have experienced many decades of music and I still favor the 80's.
@ BERNADETTE OMALLEY *enjoyed* reading Your post 😎 Totally support the last line of it ! 😉
Yeah man, say what you want about the 80's but it produced some of the greatest songs you're ever going to hear.
I wonder if she realises that these guys are in their 60's, and still have so much energy, best era for music, great time to grow up
Im only 30 but I'm so grateful to have seen them live two times already. They cant be matched.
Martin Gore's tenor voice contrasting Dave Gahan’s baritone along with Christian Eigner powerful and precise drumming are what always stood out to me...Timeless.
Loved the reaction. Depeche Mode is always great live. I've seen them twice and they Never Let Me Down.
Again
Hahaha I see what u did there
Only true fans would have picked it up 💕
Well done 😍
From Russia with love!!! 😘 I am 41, my son 16, both enjoying DM!!! Great band!
Definitly, she like electro-pop, maybe it's time to try some Pet Shop Boys, New Order or The Cure... 😉
Joy Division
Tears For Fears,OMD ....
Reply of the year goes to you my friend. I couldn’t agree more!
OMD
Bauhaus, early Human League, Souxsie Sioux, Alison Moyet, Big Country, Deacon Blue, Japan, Simply Red, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, Erasure, The Style Council, Tears for Fears, Ultravox, Simple Minds and that's just SOME from just the 80's (haven't even touched on the big stars like Bowie, Elton, The Stones et al). :)
I don't think there's any other band like them - been one of my favourite bands since my teenage years - still is.
Sebastian Sulinski I agree ... I’m 52 and I was twice on concert and on my phone the most music is DM and Rammstein
You should check out a band called Blaqk Audio. Very much have this era’s sound on lock. Specifically a song called The Viles. 🙌🏻
@@wolfgangselle4307 I'm 50 and I'm here with you guys loving this band and songs as well.
Same ☝🏾 age 13 to present 45
Till I die 😎🖤
Such a great live performance. I was there... And make sure to see DM live at Rock am Ring... was there too.
That performance is awesome!
Morten Harket of a-ha doesn't as well
Finally... more young people finding dM! Probably the best song in the world!!! 🖖🏻❤️
I get Goosebumps whenever I watch this performance. I totally understand the feeling.
Devotional tour..with Alan's drumming....they sound amazing live in Devotional
Milan?....touring the Angel?
The best version of this song. One of the few live performances of a song where the audience actually complements it.
It ain't a Depeche Mode video unless he does that spin move. Period. ♥️😂
or when he does that arm wave together with the audience, like a rye field.
@@KRAFTWERK2K6 A rye field? Where are you from? We only have corn, peanuts, and cotton in Alabama. 😗
@@alienhybrid7891 I'm a european Alien ;)
@@KRAFTWERK2K6 Oh you got the good rye that isn't genetically modified. 😊
Best frontman EVER...!
Respect to Dave Gahan... 🙌🏻🔝🔝🙌🏻
De Møde everyone definitely gets their money’s worth at their shows!
Do you ever seen CULT live? Ian Astbury is like the Master of stage
Roger Daltrey...
Might want to check out Queen at Live Aid.
I’ve seen Depeche Mode 4 times in concert. I got goosebumps watching this ! They are epic !
Gail Pope I got chills as soon as the music started! Love them!
I have been listening to them for 30+ years and have seen them like 10 times live, and that song STILL gives me goosebumps!
me 3 times
My parents have 43 years old, I'm 22 and my brother 18 and we both absolutely love DM because of them 🖤
Greetings from Mexico
I was in Cancun and the taxi driver was playing depeche, I'm sure it was for our tourista asses, but he seemed to really like them.
Depeche mode-Never let me down again live in Paris... React to this great performance :D
Nice suggestion!
@@GlitchintheMatrixMultiMedia oh my god that would be wesome
I really agree with this ☝️☝️☝️
Or better still, the version from 101 at the rosebowl.
psych0bre best coment.....🙌🏻
The thing about live vs studio tracks is that a live version sometimes can't be appreciated unless you're familiar with the song already.
I hear ya, this one seemed to work this time.
That's so true, I've made that point on this channel before, so have others, it falls on deaf ears. I guess she's got that to look forward to.
@@drainpig894Unfortunately I have a lot of copyright issues with studio tracks. I do get some out there but it is difficult so i work to find a really solid live version when i have to.
80’s was hands down the best era for music xxx
80’s British bands are my childhood and bring back great memories.
This song and original video are a masterpiece
Definitely
Random comment, but I found this video really touching. I love kids and when I was 14, my childhood was ripped from me. It's nice to see a 14 year old happy and safe.
I spent 5 years in the UK during the early 80's watching this conveyor belt of talent like Depeche Mode just keep coming off the production line.
It was the best time of my life.
what a lovely comment. thank you.
Nothing like seeing Depeche Mode live!! They are huge worldwide!!
Click something if you’ve seen them live, doing “Everything Counts”, and surrounded by great people slinging their arms back and forth; euphoria!
Bryan Stradley Oh Yeah! 🤟🏼 the memories give me goose bumps. DM is just plain epic.
Pine Knob, MI Amazing. Went with a friend who had never heard them before. He was a sweaty mess by the of the show.
Stumbled upon your Depeche Mode review today, fantastic to see someone so young appreciating this iconic British band, who I have followed for the last 40 years and yes your right, they really excel live.
I look forward to watch another of your reviews
Depeche mode formed in Essex UK in 1980 during what called the New Wave scene.
Yeah, the boys from Basildon. Only Andy still lives in London, Dave lives in NY and Martin in Santa Barbera, so they don't see that much of eachother, but they are still so HUMBLE, bless them.
Makes me proud to be an Essex boy.
I've watched that particular video probably a hundred times. They have SO many great songs! I can only imagine going to one of their live concerts. Your daughter should see Dave when he was younger with that beautiful long hair! He still looks wonderful. I thought I liked the Beatles in high school, but this band just blows me away!
Depeche mode 101 Pasadena concert takes some beating show her that epic concert👍
Good evening Pasadena. Was there, back when all tickets to a concert stadium where general admission. Totally missing those days, you didn't have to be rich to see amazing concert's.
The movie 101 is on youtube.
Never let me down again - 101... Still the best!
I totally agree. The video where you can follow the fans that has been picked out to follow Depeche Mode in a separate tour bus. That’s amazing.... ❤️
Still the best concert I've ever attended...though seeing them from the pit at Universal Ampatheater ranks high too.
I’m 42 I still get goose bumps every time I hear this song like it was the first.
One of my favorite intros too a song it just gets me every time.
Check out the music video for this song done on top of the World Trade Center
I'm 42 and this is the song that started DM for me.
I must have heard this 500 times, but if I haven't heard for a while and play this live version again, goosebumps every damn time.
It's so beautiful to see your daughter smile. You are a cool dad. I'm 40 and have a 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son.
This reminds me of my 2 sons many years ago listening to my vinyl of DM 20 years ago,and to this day they are still their favourite band.Good to see its still carrying on.
5:43 I like how her face lights up and she can't help but smile when the crowd starts singing. That's some genuine reaction from her.
Have a great day.
you're lucky you and many others got to see Depeche mode live! I've always wanted to see them!
I remember hearing this song and this album for the first time when I was 10 in Eastern Europe. I was mesmerized and my little heart would love this band till this day. I'm 43.
Same here, first time at 10 years, and now 43, feels like yesterday
Very powerful band of the 80’s! DM’s timeless songs. A fan here in the Philippines!
Love Depeche Mode, they are so good live. From my home town Basildon.
Big greetinx to bas from german c-town! :)
Just round the corner. I’m watching from Eastwood. I remember watching them for the first time in Crocs. Or The Pink Toothbrush as it’s known now in Rayleigh.
You're soo right, watching the live version of tracks is like a new lease of life to your favourite bands from years ago. Depeche Mode, legends..!
I have watched that video so many times I lost track. It looks like one of the most fun of concerts to go to
Seen them live over 20 times since 1986 and every tour since and they're still superb live!!!
Nice to see her smiling when the crowd sings the chorus. Yes, that‘s what the magic of DM is about...
This is how you educate your children. I love how she was bobbing her head to it and smiling at the performance.
That's probably one of DM's best ever concert.
or even world violation when the album first came out....
was literally about to post the exact same thing. the 93 live vid of Enjoy the Silence is the best I've seen
@@mattzinicola7460 no great recordings of it though :( there's a beautifully shot video of a live performance of it in the 93 tour
I totally agree with you devotional was sensational
That's definitely the one to watch. One of the best live performances I've seen.
NYKHLFC 6 Times very well said! One of the best shows anywhere!
NYKHLFC 6 Times he is kinda like the Freddie Mercury of New Wave!
Yes you are right but this song is the song that has a spiritual feeling to it live. It feels like a prayer when experienced live
Technically it's a 90's song. Both Violator and Enjoy the Silence came out in 90. Personal Jesus , the first single off Violator came out in late 89
But it was written in 89 and they performed it live in Germany in 1989-Making it also an 80's song
Even the used synthesizers were classical 80s. It's a popular misconception to believe that the beginning of a new decade would change the sound of music immediately. Until 1982 music was very 70s.
@@leroyrs well their music change dramatically from Music for the Masses to Violator
I got a little hunch (bellyfeeling), it's "take her to a concert time!" This will be an expierence!
It definitely has that 80's sound to it, but I can't believe how modern it sounds at the same time.
Haven't heard the song in years and I can still remember most of the lyrics.
This song is sooo powerful and I agree 100% another live performance I like is Everything counts, they also do a unique take on it.
Behind the wheel live - Devotional 1993.
your doughter will become a true fan!! DM worldwide
Mario Gonzalez while that is an excellent song and tour, I wouldn’t choose behind the wheel to listen to with my daughter.
