    It's refreshing to see a scale pilot that is SCALE. Outstanding job - she looks sublime. Well done!!

    Gorgeous! And great performance. Plus, I have to add, wonderfully done pilot - knew who it was the instant I saw him. Great work and I hope it brings you many hours of pleasure.

    When the video started, I wasn't liking the rustic look of that plane, but it grew on me the longer I watched.
    Super job!
    I'm not being critical, because you've done this longer than I have, but for me, it is more difficult to line up on the runway when I use ailerons for the final turn. It also shoots up my anxiety level. Lol
    The rudder makes this maneuver much more smooth and less stressful.
    Love that plane wcolby.

    Really nice job. I know that thing is hard to land and takeoff. I had a smaller scale one as a kid. landing and taking off was a big problem. But once it got in the air if they're fantastic I think it took me a year to build mine. & I didn't do as much detail as you did I still watch black sheep squadron. Every Sunday on me TV at 7 p.m.

    Nice camera work! It's a pleasure to watch a flight with a competent camera operator catching the details and working the zoom!
    Nice work on the Corsair Mike! It is truly eye-candy.
    I see you did the nav lights and the formation lights, but I did not see the retractable landing light. Did I miss it?
    Nice work on the Earl Aune tailwheel! Did you do the tail-hook as well?
    Did you rig up the Dive Brake option? That's where the Mains are extended but the tail wheel is not. Its a cool option for scale flight that I have not seen anyone do for competition.
    Congratulations on a great project!

    Very nice scale modifications to an otherwise benign looking ARF. Dicey rotation and landing but a good maiden flight nonetheless. A 3 bladed prop would complete the scale appearance.

    Yes I agree..............Why after all this effort in your work did you not go with a scaled hartzell three bladed prop setup? Hope you changed it by now.
    Otherwise fantastic work.

  • @mamatalu

    why all the scale details and completely non-scale prop and spinner?

    • @scottanderson6494
      @scottanderson6494 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has to be able to fly. The Scale prop would be nice for static but a 3 blade 26" prop would not work without a specially geared engine.

    No flaps on landing and no rudder input on take off and landing, amazing how many pilots have no skills in rudder control. A very
    beautiful plane.

    • @smokinjoes899
      @smokinjoes899 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +transformer889 He had the flaps down on landing. Came in pretty hot. Not much flare but still got it down. Thumbs up!

    • @bogey19018
      @bogey19018 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +transformer889 He used the rudder, he just steered into the grass.

    • @transformer889
      @transformer889 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bogey19018 I watch the video again at 3:19 and 10:23 you see the rudder goes the wrong direction, I think the rudder may be reversed, but during taxing looks like the rudder direction is correct. Only the pilot can answer that.

      Beautiful craftsmanship on this Corsair, but I agree, piloting skill is not very evident or commensurate to the beauty of the model. Landing was a bit rough, pilot can use more practice on a cheaper large foamie until he greases his landings. I wont risk 8 months of hard work if I can't land well enough. Truth is, I don't land well enough consistently myself, that's why I will not invest a lot of time and money on my RC planes. Anyways, I say well done to Mike, Builder and Pilot of this Corsair.

      Unfortunately, this is a common "problem" - a lot of great builders are great builders more or less at the expense of not necessarily being great pilots. Understandable, but unfortunate.

    Question from a newbie: Why would you remove the monokote and cover it in fiberglass. Isn't it way too heavy?

    • @wcolby
      @wcolby  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike is absolutely crazy when it comes to scale (in a good way) monocote is too flexible to look real & it won’t accept painted details as well as fiberglass
      .

    • @shreddinjoe
      @shreddinjoe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, scale is great, however, Paul is right. All that fiberglass makes for one heavy ass plane..makes for hairy flying conditions..judging from that landing, Mikes gonna take some time to get used to flying this bird..long approaches and landing a bit HOT with full flaps ..workable indeed..its all in the eye of the beholder..but too me..a perfect scale model dont mean nothing if it flies like a man hole cover..just my opinion

      vellieux : Better with a aluminium 4 blade prop ; you can troddle the eng. less & move more for stable T.O./ Land.

      Ah, thank you very much. Back in the day we built from the ground up to flight status, usually at least 1 to 2 years depending on the plane. I flew an F4U 1 Corsair and a P51B Mustang, both Top Flite models, both with Schnerle 60s in them.

  • @RTD1947

    Lipstick on a Pig....that plane is 8 lbs overweight struggling to fly on 80 inches of wing (hardly giant scale)...50+ oz. of wing loading...lots of Klasskote on the tail, means lots of lead in the nose... that's why it flys and lands like a brick.....The wing flap step of all D models, I assume that is what you were going for, is on the wrong side also, nice job overall however, a $1,000 on just the airframe and the attempt was commendable, but that is a huge scale mistake...a little closer research would have helped...to tell how Pappy climbs into a Corsair...certainly not from the Port side... Just a note...you need speed to make lift, that goes for landing and takeoff...and to the guy below...that's a Hamilton Standard prop...not a Hartzell...
