I've been talking about manual EVs for at least 10 years now. Finally someone does it and it's Toyota. They've really been on a roll lately and this is really going to put them in the front of the enthusiast market.
The problem with manual ev's is that there really is no point in doing this. It only increases weir and decreases performance. The only benefit is the amount of control you have on the gas. There is no difference in torque whatsoever. You can probably start this car and drive 200kmh in second gear. The hydrogen combustion version on the other hand is interesting because it keeps everything a traditional gasoline powered car and only replaces the fuel.

I wouldn't mind decreased performance if it adjusted the torque curve to be more similar to a combustion engine, which they can because it's electric/computer based. It's the enthusiast market, not for everyone.
@@DantesGrill that's why I suggested that h2 combustion will be the replacement for enthusiasts. It combines all the bells and whistles of a traditional combustion car without most of the harmful exhaust. I'm sure the electric motor with gearbox feels completely different from a combination motor making it more awkward than fun. I don't think the manual ev will catch on in the enthusiasts scene. But who knows.
I've never been excited for an EV before. I hope these masterpieces eventually hit the production line, I would definitely buy one assuming it isn't as pricey as other EVs on the market.
As a person who loves toyota and I spent a lot of money and HUGE amount od time on my celica project I would sell it and buy this one even if it would cost more than reasonal price. At this point where terrific SUVs are driving all around the world and all cars looks basically the same, if toyota would put this in production and sell it I have no problem to pay extra percent to toyota for its epicness.
I like to think that if they do get them into production and they do well other japanese companies will follow, I'd love to get my hands on an R32 GTR or an RX7 but the current prices suck.

All new cars are required to have them installed. Also they can limit your travel distance and watch your every move in a EV. Oh almost forgot that the representatives are heavily invested in the EV companies. Can't lose on your investments if you force it on the people
I was already a full blown Toyota fan boy for their reliability and consistency, but this just pushes me over the top. I love that they are honoring their legacy and the huge fanbase that this model has, Toyota for life!

I still drive my old Corolla sr5 it's older than me and still more reliable then any other vehicle I've owned, I've never considered an EV or other alternative but to hear they've developed some that still have the manual transmission is beyond exciting.
I like the overall way of thinking behind it and the end result. It's an interesting concept and it also goes beyond wasting things that can still be upgraded and enjoyed as it was for decades before.
When I first heard about this and saw the pictures, I rolled my eyes and was saddened, after watching this video and seeing how respectfully and well done this was, I was happy and hopeful. I wish other car manufacturers would embrace the enthusiast culture that surrounds them.
Of course it was Toyota to provide us with fun EVs and carbon-neutral sick-sounding engines. They respect their legacy, and even kept the 4A-GE. Lots of respect to Toyota on that one.
Grab one while you still can, There are still plenty out there, newer cars generally don't come in manual but a few give you the option if you preorder with specific requests.
So it *can* be done right. Color me impressed! I think if there were more evs like that, I'd buy. And I'm def interested in the trueno as well, hydrogen can keep the dream alive

I think Toyota just realizes that some cars don't need to be fast or efficient if hydrogen stations can be as available as natural gas stations I wouldn't mind swapping my engine on my El Camino to an H2 engine.

They can do it so you can swap back if needed as well. Toyota doesn't offer it at the moment but 3rd parties do. But as you said without the Toyota engine is it the same car ?
Toyota understand the needs of typical gearheads like us and combines it with the technology of the future. A nitrogen powered Car with clutch and gearbox? I say HELL YEAH!

I learned how to drive in a 1985 Toyota Corolla SR5. It looked very similar to this. This video is bringing back some good memories.
i think it's the same model, the only difference between the one in the video and SR5 is the body type, SR5 is closer to coupe body style

We had them in the US but before the anime but they mostly got scraped and crushed. They weren't cared for properly.
