I just rebuild a 327 this summer for a customer for 2 door 57 Chevy Really enjoy doing it again at 72 Can’t just stop what I love doing but my time will come
Very very good engine and I’ve overhauled a lot of them I called them the school bus engine and still have 4 in back of shop that we’re running when I install new ones
Are you interested in selling any of them? I have a 1971 loadstar bus that was my grandfathers that he turned into a rv and the motor in it might be toast, hasn’t been started in over 10 years and was running rough last time it was running. I have no clue what was wrong with it as I was a child at the time, please get back with me if we can private message or something that would be great thank you
I have one of these in my garage waiting. I don't have any of the specs or clearances and so on. Can you point me to a good service manual for the engine? Mine is from 1975. Do you know if this v-345 remained the same over the years or are there differences that I need to be aware of? Any help will be appreciated.
Best I can tell you is join some of the international pickup groups. I get alot better answers there . They’re apparently all interchangeable but have to switch a few things depending on year ( like I have to do.) Also there’s a couple different heads I think mainly because of emissions in later years.
What year is that? My 67 and 68 had pistons that were humped on one side and dished on the other.. they stuck up above the surface of the block if im not mistaken.. That engine would thump along in 4th gear idling at about 50 rpm going down the trail at about 5 mph. Not sure why every 345 on TH-cam has flat pistons.. Not sure what they do for compression or flow...
It’s a 72 assuming it’s the original engine. We did find out there’s two different heads that these take because these ones are cracked and beyond repair and they’re hard to find but we picked a solution to that (hopefully) a few weeks ago. Keep watching.

Good to keep things in order but I never did on these engines because they didn’t ware much
Make you some tee handles to remove heads might save a toe or foot
Takes only 5 minutes to weld it
Ok I will shut up, just 58 years of mechanic work and kinda retired
