Nice guide. Forza Horizon 3 is my first driving game ever (and I'm 48) so I've been lost until I found your guide. The car tuning and slow motion discussion was outstanding. Really technically well explained. Thanks.
omg ive spent the last few hours trying to figure out why i cound not drift but the whole time i had my steering set to simulation for racing lol,, thanks so much now i can drift prettly allright i just need to pratice
Thanks! I only had the Cross-Bridge Drift Zone left to get the PR Superstar Achievement. I followed this step by step, and after about 5 attempts, I got 3 Stars. The traffic finally cooperated with me.
Wow... I have been having steering set to simulation this whole time, now I tried it on normal for the first time... It's sooo much easier holy crap. My previous record on that drift zone you were driving on in the video, was 50 349, with steering set to simulation. I did two runs with steering set to normal and now my record is 56 893. It made a huge difference, especially because I'm driving a HE E36, and with that you can only run either race tires or rally tires, there's nothing else to choose from. So simulation steering really made that car very hard to handle, but now it works just fine! Thanks man!
Try the M3 E36 HE, simulation steering and standard tires (standards on HE E36 is race tires), try doing some highspeed drifting with that. The transitions from left to right turns are pretty fucking violent xD But now that I have put steering to normal I've beaten all my highscores on the driftzones by miles, it's just so much more relaxed.
HokiHoshi u r the best person u have helped me go in to detail on this car now i can dridt like a champ thank u for your help and hope u can make more videos like this
i SUCK at drifting and this video helped me out a lot on Xbox I have been playing for like 5 months now and playing nonstop and i SUCKED at drifting and I FAILED the drift zones and thank u SOOO much for helping me
use rally springs for more angle, worth it imo! If you're new to drifting dont use a 1000 hp car, get something like a rx7, m3,s13 and around 400-500 hp. Btw great video overall :D
The way I learnt was to use weight shifting. I got myself an M5 with a tad bit of camber, put the spring stiffness to the middle, and then put my differential to 100% both ways. It was around 500hp and that was plenty to get a grasp of drifting around corners and round-abouts especially. Then when I learnt how to move to the left, right, more angle, etc. I then started going for lighter vehicles with around the same amount of power and roughly the same tune. I think this was a better way to learn because at that time when you have a car with a lower power to weight ratio you can push the vehicle to the limit to learn how to stay initiated in a drift, and then when the weight gets less you begin to also incorporate throttle control to prevent yourself spinning out.
IMO I do not agree with abs, manual shifting (w/out clutch), maxing out the power on the v8 (which is nearly 1000). Then again this is all my opinion and what I've learned from others and myself through the Forza series(I've been playing since Forza 3). If anyone reads this and wants to take my opinion into mind, keep the power low, don't be afraid to add gas and spin out as you will eventually learn the limits of your car, try to learn to use manual with clutch as it adds a lot of car control, and try it with the 240sx,s15, or r34 as those cars tend to hold the most angle while being easy to learn on. Don't be discouraged if you don't see immediate results, as good things don't always come easy.
also keep rear tire camber close to 0. when it comes to gearing it depends on how much hp you have. ie if you have 1000+ hp then yea you can lean towards 3 but if youre in the 300-600ish then it helps to lean towards 4.00. its best to fiddle around with your car. all cars react differently so get used to your car
There's a lot wrong with this video. First off, Manual w/ clutch is highly recommended. Have clutch set to A, and shifting up/down to B/X. If the back-end comes out a bit too far, you can bring it back, and it's easier to initiate. Roll bars, stiffness, and damping/rebound make the world of difference. As a start, recommend adjusting roll bars. Softer rear roll bars can help get better angle. Springs and Damping you just have to mess with, once again, slightly softer rear can help with angle. Also, for high-scores in drift zones, AWD is the way to go.
Personally, I like manual with clutch because I like to clutch kick and since I run no abs, just like my real car, I turn down the braking pressure so that I can pull the brake trigger farther without locking them up. Brake pressure doesn't affect the hand brake, I've tested it. That much toe in means you have too much power and it's trying to rotate too much/you are using too much throttle, try taming it down a bit. In formula D pretty much all the s chassis cars run zero to positive camber because of the camber gain when the rear end squats under power, this does not affect all cars but little to no camber, at least in my opinion, is a little easier to slide. Also, running a bigger rear tire than in the front helps bring the car back around if it over-rotates a little, you just have to let off for a bit. If you want more information on setting up drift car suspension, Chris Forsberg talked about it a bit in one of his drift garage videos and other people have let lots of information loose the internet, just make sure you stick with the ones who know what they are talking about.
All the people saying that he's "tunning" wrong are the same people that don't have a single TH-cam video on their channel. It's easy to say something is wrong when you have no proof that your method is right. Anyway Great job OP keep the good videos coming!
my drift tunes are completely different. i always put -2 degrees of camber in the front and -1.5 in the back. the tire pressure is at around 28. i usually put 0.5 degrees of toe then max the angle caster. then i drop the car and lock the diff. i dont drift with crazy big engines though. i usually stick with the smaller side since it helps keep angle better
The best way I found to drift is to drive in fast, as you turn at the corner, pull the e-brake, countersteer, and keep the throttle pinned! with traction/stability control OFF
This setup works, definitely. But for people starting out drifting, starting with around 400bhp and pumping the tires up, 75-90% diff lock, full weight reduction and fiddling with the camber til it feels right would be best. Learning to drift is best done without HP through the roof. :p
Well the tuning isn't very complex if it's the exact same setup with shorter gears, there'd be much different differential tuning and whatnot involved. Plus the power ratio which I don't even know if you can change, and third AWD is powersliding not drifting. :)
i would softer the suspension as you can get much better feel with the car i would soften the front to around 110-120 and the rear to 80-90 if the car is too lose stiffen the rear if to still soften the rear (BTW this is metric not sure about imperial) by doing this you will have much more control and be able to be more voilent with the car
I usually leave the stock engine in. I swap the engine only if I can't get enough power. I do this because of the engine sound. I am tired of hearing a v8, v10 or v12 in every car.
I just max everything out and I'm in the top 300 worldwide in quite a few drift zones hahaha! So it's not all about a tune guys I wouldn't stress too much about it.
'When I woke up I was now hokihoshi, the Forza youtuber' - Hokihoshi in a video about the horizon series
Wow, a heart from HokiHoshi himself. Thanks!
Great video mate!
nothanksfinthechatforericship
Wait is this erikship before he was famous
Great video man! You have no idea how hard it is to find someone that shows the actual tune and not just "Drift Build" in the title!
BIG, ACTUALLY BIG LIKE. I was trying to drift with many tutorials, but yours was the best. I can finally master this game. Keep going.
Awesome work, man. I'm sure this video will be helpful to many people, I sure found it informative. Thanks.
you sir have earned yourself a sub.
Hoki you have the best Forza tutorials on TH-cam!
This is one of the best tutorials I have seen for drifting in FH 3, its thorough and to the point with no waffling. Nice work!
Come on, guys, hes just trying to help beginners learn how to drift and you give him all this shit.
WOW, i like how the drifts became instantly easier when i applied the tune you showed in this video to my 240sx!
Now its smooth af. ty bro!
Good info bro, Interesting you try soft anti roll bars, I'm running stiff in my setup on my channel.
Thank you so much! Finally, those drift zones are fun.
I was always able to drift well, but with this video, it has helped me sooooooo much, I always kept spinning out. thank you :) btw great video
Nice guide. Forza Horizon 3 is my first driving game ever (and I'm 48) so I've been lost until I found your guide. The car tuning and slow motion discussion was outstanding. Really technically well explained. Thanks.
@Meme Guy nah surely not
@Meme Guy fair enough
Very good video! Detailed, but not too long.
Continue making fh3 videos. This was a great video and i think you could become a big youtuber :)
I appreciate the kind words! I definitely plan on making at least a few more videos pretty soon here!
Great
can we go head to head i run a way different tune then you an i would like to compare them ?
i run 645 i6 i thing 1000 hp is to much thats just me
Really helpful and clear video, thank you!
omg ive spent the last few hours trying to figure out why i cound not drift but the whole time i had my steering set to simulation for racing lol,, thanks so much now i can drift prettly allright i just need to pratice

Great vid man reminded me alot of keiichi tsuchias drift bible with how you got into how to initiate the drift haha
Never thought I'd hear the day I reminded someone of Kei Tsuchiya hahah!
Oh shit, this video was uploaded on my birthday! :D
Love your videos m8. Detailed easy to understand,, keep it up
Cheers buddy, you helped alot!! Keep up the good work
This helped me a lot, thanks!!
i SUCK at drifting and this video helped me out a lot on Xbox I have been playing for like 5 months now and playing nonstop and i SUCKED at drifting and I FAILED the drift zones and thank u SOOO much for helping me
Great video, taught me how to tune my car and drift my car! Thanks for all the tips!
Dude you explained how to drift perfectly! Thanks man!
Thank you so much for this. In finally decent at drifting now
bruh! Thank you for this set up! Just got 3 stars in a drift zone. I used the shelby gt350 and it does work!
I followed the video and the car WORKS!!! cool vid
thank you!! going to take a while to learn this.. but will get hang of it. thank you for this intro! great info
Great video, cheers
run manual with clutch and abs off
The Shows clutch kick for dayys
Please show as how to do this all the TH-camr are shit please show me yeah
All day! 😇 check out my clip lol #donttextanddrive x.D
Collin Gee oo
It bothered me really bad he just used manual instead of w/clutch 😛
great video! thanks heaps!
Stancie here Glad I could help!
Excellent video!
Thanks, I have been looking for this cuz I am terrible at drifting.
Really under-rated video man! Awesome stuff! Keep it up :D
Great tutorial. Very helpful. Thanks!

thank u very much for your help. i did it perfectly and still learning
I love this video it was VERY helpful thank you for making it👍🏻
Thx you helped me a lot in 30mins I knew how to drift :)
nice tutorial!! hope to see more vids!!
The settings helped way more
THIS VIDEO FCKIN SAVED ME.
This video really helps!
Thank you so much! Helped a lot!
Great video!
Jesus, how do you figure out all this stuff 😫
great tutorial tho!
except for the fact many of the tips he gave was wrong/misleading or a cheap way of drifting such as v8 swaps
+RedShiftJellyfish Yeah, Honestly his tune is terrible.
helped me out a lot thanks bro
This is rly helpful :)
wow ...I love the way u detailed everything .... could u do a video abt tuning and explaining wat will go wrong ,if we tune it the wrong way ...thx
I have a video coming out next week that should help to explain tuning a lot better and show why different things are better/worse!
cool thx bro
good video dude
U helped a lot thx, I can finally use the Ford Shelby for these drift "cams"
Zones hehe
I forgot lol
Thanks for this Vid it Helps Me a lot
Best tutorial vid on Fh3
This video really helps now I can drift in my z 28

Why?
I have changed my mind after trying it out
LMAO
front psi does make a difference. it helps to have the front lower than the back so the tires grip better meaning for traction

533ren335 .."for jrifting awd is the way to go" , assuming ur lame n lookin to cheapen the experience;)
SharonNeedles@freedomsnotfree.com he said for the highest score you ass, not the best experience.
4wd isnt drifting
Thanks this was very helpful

still using this tutorial in 2024 😂😂
Outstanding instruction.

Learning to drift is best done without HP through the roof. :p
RWD drivetrain, or AWD? I have the 22b HE and I kinda want to keep it an AWD, but it doesn't slide as well as I would like.
For RWD was what I meant, AWD is a whole other world. Google a guide man I'm not too sure on AWD :p
Stephen Crowhurst for awd all you do is basically what this video tells you , just put a goood amount of hp and shorter gears

Hoki ! Will you be doing a FH4 drifitng guides ? Really need 1 to learn drifitng ..
😁

Are you kidding me, this guy only has 1K Subs and has 135k Views. Why not more subs?
this is honestly the best srift car i have built yet
you can clutch kick, that's a huge advantage
Set front qnd rea differential to 100 to it makes it much easier to control the vehicle
Dayum this tune worked
nice video. how do you make videos in the game? Does it have a editor ?
Thanks! I used Xbox Game DVR to record the raw footage (fraps doesn't work), then edited the video in Sony Vegas.
Not a bad video!
I just max everything out and I'm in the top 300 worldwide in quite a few drift zones hahaha! So it's not all about a tune guys I wouldn't stress too much about it.
