This video is literally older than dirt, but has aged gracefully, much like the All New In 2012 Dodge Charger! Congrats on One Billion Views Steve! You earned it man! 🏆
My wife has a 12 charger R/T. Let me tell you this car is super fun to drive. I was going to get either a camaro, challenger or a mustang for my next toy but to tel you the truth i like the SRT8 charger the best. Its just pure pleasure to own and drive. Well done dodge.
I love owning my SRT-8, bought a 2012 srt charger 2 months ago and have loved it ever since. And it goes hard when you wanna smash your foot into the peddle.
I drive a Dodge Magnum RT, with almost 260,000 miles. Lots of drag racing, nitrous injected, racing cam, etc. It's been trouble free. As a former european/japanese car owner, my Dodge has been the most reliable and most fun to drive!
KEY FEATURES TRANSMISSION: Mustang has choice of 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual. Charger has only a 5 speed shiftable auto. POWER: Mustang v6 has 190 HP, 220 Torque, while the v8 has 260 HP, 300 Torque. Charger v6 has 250 HP, 250 Torque, while the v8 has 340 HP, 390 Torque. WEIGHT: Mustang weighs just under 3300 pounds, charger weighs just under 3800 with v6 and just under 4100 with v8. MPG: Mustang v6 18 city/ 27 highway, v8 15/23. Charger v6 17/25, v8 14/23 Hope this has helped you some.
Agreed. I bought a 98 Plymouth Neon three years ago with 180,000 miles on it for 800 dollars. I've used it as a second car for long drives because of the MPG (well over 35 highway) and it's only needed a oil change, an air filter and some spark plugs ... other than that it drives like it's new. The insurance is almost free it's so cheap, so it's not a burden as a second car. Chrysler makes good stuff.
Someone at work has this SRT-8 in dark grey. When my car bites the dust one day, I will definitely be taking a look at the SRT line, as well as any V8 Mustangs. Ralph Gilles is definitely doing the brand a favor, long may he reign as the head of SRT.
Why exactly when the autos are faster anyway. News flash for ya, not everyone want to be throwing stick all day. Ya want shifts u can use the paddles or the slapstick if u wanna do 40 rolls and shit with a bit more interaction. Otherwise, people know longer as a whole wanna be bothered fucking with a clutch. It is what it is, get over it. You prob were on about chargers being 4 doors weren't ya when they came out. Prob thinkn they shouldn't have even named it a charger. Bet ur one of those guys aren't ya lol
Bought a brand new darango it sparked the old mopar love I had and now I just bought my son a new 2012 dodge charger SRT8 he loves it so much he started dragracing it at redline stadium he won over 245 races well that settles it we are officially a Mopar Family now thank god
@@Chestnut1998 quicker not faster. They have the same top speed but the new one accelerates faster. But I think the older has higher top speed because it's lighter due to having 5 gears rather than 8.
Teslaboi18 ehh, it’s about 100 pound lighter and the new one will still beat it. If they have the same too end , the scatpack will hit 170-175 1st due to the 8 speed.
What I meant was it contains the same limited option group as the SE as in it has no sunroof, base suspension, base interior, base level 4.3 inch touch screen, base audio and speakers, non heated/cooled seats, non heated/cooled cup holders and cloth interior. The Dodge website basically lists the Super Bee as an SE with Brembo brakes and a 6.4Litre engine.
I rented a 2011 based model while my 04 mountaineer was in the shop and I didn't wanna take the damn thing back....and this was just the 3.6 l v6. Wow I Love the charger.
What a beautiful machine; for those of us who aren't be able to handle the SRT8, there's also the Pentastar V6 and the 5.7 L HEMI V8 with 370 hp. In 2012, the Charger with the Pentastar will get an 8-spd auto, but the HEMIs not just yet by staying with the 5-speed. I'm hoping that the HEMI in both 5.7 and SRT will get the 8-speed auto in 2013 and the performance will be out of this world. Also fuel economy should definitely improve. I hoping it comes sooner rather than later...
this is easily the meanest looking car on the market today, amazing how chrysler group has leaped forward from a couple of years ago!!! i really enjoy seeing american car company`s coming back big time as i have always been a huge enthusiast of american cars :) greetings from germany, to the steve hammes team ;)
Went to the car show today to see and sit in one of these. When I got to the Dodge section there was a beautiful white SRT-8 with red leather interior. The car is a little on the big side but looks sharp and fit and interior fit and finish is incredible. There was one flaw that would prevent me from ever buying one and that is the 3 inches of free-play in the steering wheel. Can't justify spending $52000 Cnd on a car that has sloppy loose steering and probably handles like Ricky's car from TPB
***** Same here. That's why I just got a 2013 Charger w/ 17k on the odometer. White with black accents, fully loaded with the Appearance Package number 32/392. I get mad compliments.
I own the 2013 Charger SRT8, and I get 0-60 in 4.5 stock. That's without the F1 tires as well, so if I had stickier tires I could drop some time off that
I'm a big fan of american cars. When I went to Oregon this summer I hired an Charger. I lover it very much but I would never give away my Audi RS6 because german and italian cars are the best in the world and I feel ist everytime I drive my Audi. It looks very good - and the 580 hp engine is really no outdated engeneering.
Coming from a heavy Euro-fanboy, I am like in love with this car. The older one, I didn't care for at all, but this one, is just BEAST! Even comes with paddle shifters! (Kinda useless on a 5-speed IMO), GOOD JOB DODGE!
Test drove the Audi S4 and BMW 335 along with the Charger SRT8. Bottom line: The Charger was the most fun and FAR FAR more comfortable for a taller driver like me. This is a BIG comfortable sedan that still offers a great deal of performance. It has no competition from the Germans unless you step up to larger models. Build quality is stunning. You should drive one and then comment.
Hemishperical heads give more flow easier than typical "wedge" style heads, especially at higher RPM. over 75% of a motors power is all dependant upon how the heads flow (which is why you can have 300hp 4-cylinders) A hemi head can be taken to higher peak power levels than typical V8 heads so a big difference is in modding potential. Now this is where the 6.4 Hemi come in at ! Top end at long distance the 6.4 will chew up and spit out the 5.7 at a mine blowing 180mph verses 160 mph cause of the long stork
SXT is better on gas obviously. It has a V6 3.5L engine. You can get anywhere from 18-22MPG with it depending on how aggressively you drive it. I get about 15-16MPG with my Charger R/T.
Now if you put a 3.4 race cam in the 5.7 with a hot chip it will bust the speedometer so that over 180 mph so idk how fast that is was never clocked = (
Depends on what trim you get on either car. The v6 versions of both are incredibly slow, though I have only driven the v6 mustang. Upgrade to the charger R/T and it has more power than the mustang GT, but it is much heavier, so it doesn't get a real speed advantage. The only way the Charger is faster than the mustang (from those years), is if you get the AWD version of the R/T.
Seems like a lot of people don't get it. This is a BIG and hugely COMFORTABLE car with 4 doors and a ton of driver leg room. The Audi A4 interior is cramped by comparison and not livable if you're much over 6' tall. There's a lot of car here for around 50K loaded and it's more fun than many more expensive cars out there. You have to look at the WHOLE package, and also understand that this car can easily be stroked to much higher performance as well.
@rumblebeast08 The manufacturers are puting them in to flaunt higher highway fuel economy making 7th and 8th gears overdrive gears...and some of them like to program them to get there as quickly as possible to achieve better mileage, making driving a bit of a labor to keep the power up. So in theory I agree with you, but in driving some of them, I think a tried and true 5-speed is advantageous for performance. The one in this Charger didn't bother me at all.
I'm actually looking more into the STR8 now than an RT. The gas seems to be about the game, I don't really care much about gas in a performance car but I just want it to be decent.
2:41 He is right, even though I'm a huge Dodge/SRT fan, I think that the new 6.4L HEMI deserves a better sounding exhaust for the charger and the challenger.
Finally, someone who knows how to reason! There's too many idiots on TH-cam anymore, who just start cursing at you for stating an opinion, so thank you for not being one of them.-- While there are a lot of American cars that have cheap plastic interiors, the Charger (at least, 2012 and up) has a very refined interior. The leather in the 2012-2013 Charger SRT-8, are made from the same leather Ferrari uses. If that isn't quality, I don't know what is!
THey finally got it right and im in love with this thing its just to good no all it needs is a set of cherry bombs or borla exhaust and maybe a super charger and it wiill be pure perfection
@KnorpelDelux Your English is really good, and what you said was grammatically more correct than a lot of people who speak English as their first language. It's pretty nice to know that other people around the world like some of the stuff made here. Hope you recover from all that beer!
@FXSwissTrader I think when it goes to cruising speeds, the cylanders shut off for fuel efficiency. The HEMI engines have it and I believe the Cadillac Escalade has that too; it has a VORTEC V-8 engine as well.
@stevehammes hello man, nice video, i would like to askk you aquestion , im about to buy a srt charger but i havent test it, i had tested the camaro ss engine and its powerful, do ou know wich engine is more powerful the srt or the ss,?? thks,
After reading what you've been saying you certainly have some awesome taste! Kids just don't notice that nowadays. I'm a little younger myself but I'll always support the American cars. Despite if some of them are being built in our little brother countries Mexico and Canada, the profit does come back to America.
Get a challenger, it can be purchased with a manual transmission. And I believe it's on the same chassis as the charger, so they are very similar to eachother, except imo the challenger looks much better! :)
Its not based on an SE. Its a stripped SRT8, and by stripped it loses the leather SRT seats, the 8.4" touch screen, the 2 mode adaptable Bilstein shocks and niceties like the suede inserts and other luxury stuff. It does keep the huge Brembo brakes and everything else required on a 470 HP machine that runs 12.50's bone stock though.
I know what Im buying as my next new car. To think about it 17mpg isnt that bad considering this engine is a 392! My 4.6L Mustang averages about 18mpg with mostly city driving so I would rather have 392ci vs 281ci....
Cars like the charger SRT8 are popular because they aren't ridiculously overpriced, they're fun to drive, and the maintenance costs aren't sky high. Just look at the price for a sporty German vehicle like a Mercedes C63 AMG.
Wow amazing car, now it's like a high class euro sport sedan. Interior and exterior styling are excellent. However, i'll have an automatic 4 door when i'm old and have kids!
Yes. The four door configuration makes the rear seat area so much more accessible. Why force buyers to give up the stick in exchange? I can't believe it would cost that much to offer the stick on the Charger. They already have it on the Challenger. Same platform. Same drive train. It's not as if they would have to build it from scratch. Who makes decisions like this anyway? Surely not the engineers.
Hi Steve, besides the improved fuel economy of 6/7/8 speed transmissions, what are their advantages compared to the SRT8's 5-speed in terms of performance?
is it economical? because i have had charger sxt 2009 3.5L and it was not so economical but every thing else was good the air conditioning was awesome and it was so comfort and so stable in high speed

how much on average do spend on gas for your charger? I got a 2008 v6 but some day plan on getting an srt8 from 2012-14

i`m not really into the g force and track timing gizmo`s , but it`s a very nice cruiser indeed.

I think when it goes to cruising speeds, the cylanders shut off for fuel efficiency. The HEMI engines have it and I believe the Cadillac Escalade has that too; it has a VORTEC V-8 engine as well.

i took this baby for a test drive yesterday. it was the only one left at our dealership. $45k. way out of my price range. two words: dear santa :D
It does have an auto stick though. At least you would still have control over the gears.
@von32897 No final pricing was set on the options as of the time I had it but I'm sure it's closing in on 50K.
Yo Steve, nice review on a Chrysler product. How about a review on the newly revised Jeep Wrangler with the new Pentastar V6? Thanks.
I'm not too worried about the MPG, my Chrysler as old as I am gets about 14 or so....this would be an improvement, even if I only used Premium.
only 17 mpg in town, well thats pretty darn good for almost 500hp! nice mopar!
Get a challenger, it can be purchased with a manual transmission. And I believe it's on the same chassis as the charger, so they are very similar to eachother, except imo the challenger looks much better! :)
@GMCman82 SRT cars have never offered AWD...just RWD.
Really dig this beast, loved the old school chargers, this model is one cool offer, well done Dodge.
Its not based on an SE. I know what Im buying as my next new car. To think about it 17mpg isnt that bad considering this engine is a 392! My 4.6L Mustang averages about 18mpg with mostly city driving so I would rather have 392ci vs 281ci....
Cool! Good luck.
Do anyone know which model ride the smoothest between srt 8 or rt

You will love the Charger. Best car I've ever owned
Good review!!!!!and I want the superbee edition!!!!
I’ll have mine next month !
Congrats!
Hi Steve, besides the improved fuel economy of 6/7/8 speed transmissions, what are their advantages compared to the SRT8's 5-speed in terms of performance?
Fast Five!!!! Def getting this once I graduate
how r those rims on rough roads like in nyc
is it economical? because i have had charger sxt 2009 3.5L and it was not so economical but every thing else was good the air conditioning was awesome and it was so comfort and so stable in high speed
did u get it?
