Hi, it's pretty quiet when you're running. I would recommend a mat at the point where you start running. You can't deactivate the sounds. I think this is part of safety so you can always hear when your speed changes.

How is the treadmill holding up after 4 months of use? Have you seen any issues with the design or parts
