The gradual decent into madness at the A Very Spooky Sprint portion as it morphs from “Yet another hard Mario Kaizo level” to “We have to win the election and my first act as representative will be to put Boo down like the dog he is.” elevates this video from good to phenomenal.
My biggest takeaway is that the camera in normal Mario Galaxy is _phenomenal._ I never remember having camera problems, and it has to follow the player around the weirdest, gravity-bending geometry in 3D platforming. I can't imagine how many specific camera instances they needed to make to account for everything. You sure miss the finesse when its gone, eh? Congrats on your run Heff, and quality production!
@@curlybrace4984 I wouldn't even say he "didn't bother", I'd argue that stupid, unfair difficulty is the name of the game. Hardcore agree to how amazing the camera is in the original! I'm replaying Galaxy in the All Stars release, and after seeing it back to back with SM64? Holy shit I forgot how much Nintendo learns from previous games.
A testament to one man's insane powers of perseverance. I'm fairly certain that Bigmouth Galaxy would have caused me to snap and destroy not only my own computer, but several others as well. Fantastic job, Heff.
“Why, Rosalina? Why is the galaxy like this?” Questioned Mario. “Why must its explorers suffer?” But Rosalina did not answer, for she was a cruel god, and no morality exists in the confines of infinity
I remember Dunkey saying that the Mario Galaxy devs, frustrated with programming a camera to track Mario’s movement around oddly shaped planets, decided to just manually set hundreds of camera locations for each level depending on where you’re standing. What this means is that if people start editing the level geometry, or make you go through a different path than the one the devs originally designed, you’re gonna have a bad time.
I joined the stream during the Cyclone Stone Fast Foes comet run, and I was so drawn in that I came back every single stream up until the final farewell, participating all the way through despite normally never chatting in streams. Despite this video being a feature length film, it doesn't even remotely begin to fully encapsulate the experience of being a part of this journey as a viewer, nor the sheer depth of the highs and lows this odyssey threw at you. Buoy Base. Bigmouth. Ghostly. Bubble Breeze. Dusty Dune. The sheer tribulations you overcame, the cooperation with the stream chat to brainstorm how to overcome obstacles, the way you swept the Boolitical Primaries with grace and tact and struck down the lies of your vile meat-lobbying opposition. Truly, this experience deserves to go down in the annals of legends. Godspeed, Heff.
The Kaizo gameplay: Fantastic The editing: Kaizo does not even begin to describe how difficult it is to make an excellent, coherent and well flowing video from the sheer amount of footage. Seriously, well done. ❤
It's rare to find a video thats 3 hours long that has no dull moments, so spots glaring with lack of attention to detail, no massive unedited sections, no filler content. Amazing longform video Heff keep it up!
I just watched this specific part, but when you did the Cosmic Mario race in Space Junk, you were doing a scrapped star. A Cosmic Mario race was planned as the first comet star of the galaxy, but it was ultimately scrapped and replaced with a speedy comet for pull star path instead. I just think that’s pretty cool
Usually I don't comment, but I gotta say, you're one of the most dedicated streamers I've ever seen, and I don't think anyone could replace the same type of content you make. Your editing isn't excessive, but you also cut the less relevant parts. You match the music well, and your montages are always exciting, even when it's you failing over and over. Thank you heff ❤️
This video was a freaking masterpiece. I don't sit down and watch movie length videos in one sitting very often but this video was a non-stop treat from start to finish. I can tell you put a ton of time and dedication into this video Heff. Please keep working hard king.
Ah man, this also goes without fully showcasing the great banter during several streams and the IMMENSE relief and celebration from everybody once you got Bigmouth. You also missed me in the channel members shout out but I won't take it personally
"hello everyone, today I will be recounting my 15 minute session of jumping jacks" "First i jumped. Then i jumped again. Then i jumped once more. This was an illuminating experience"
This was an excellent video. I find that quality of these types of videos where you recap a big challenge run relies entirely on the pacing and editing. Some people skim over the whole run way too quick, so you can never get invested in how stuck they got on some levels. They’ll just say “this one was brutally hard but after a billion attempts I got it”. Some people just post their entire stream. You strike a perfect balance where the easy stuff is touched upon and skimmed over and the hard stuff is lingered on just enough. Not so much that it’s boring but long enough so that we can really feel how challenging it was. Great video!
Absolutely incredible. The most secondhand fun, frustration, suspense & triumphant ive felt watching a playthrough of anything. This was truly a masterpiece of a video and thank you for putting yourself through this and then editing it all so we can enjoy it here on youtube. Great work man. Heff, you may have made one of the greatest video game journeys on TH-cam. Serious congratulations for the work that must’ve gone into this. I’ll be watching this for years to come.
I have never seen your channel in my feed at all, but as soon as I saw the title, I knew I had to watch all of it. Fantastic video, and I look forward to seeing more of your videos soon Heff!
Honestly, I didn't think he would actually complete Kaizo Mario Galaxy, but damn it, I am amazed! Congrats, Heff. You have my utmost respect. Also, if you didn't know, your name is in the credits for Version 2.0 of Kaizo Mario Galaxy, so your name is cemented in SMG history forever. So Kaizo Mario Galaxy 2 when? (This is an obvious joke. Don't push yourself too hard, as this task is much more daunting than KMG1.)
YOOO! You weren't KIDDING when you said it'd be a movie! Getting to experience a lot of this live was one thing, but damn did you make it something special here. You puts MONTHS of effort into this project and it SHOWS!!! This was honestly so moving to watch a second time, getting to see the parts I missed and whatnot. Mario Galaxy, 1 and 2, are both cornerstones of my childhood. I remember being lauded among my friends for beating The Perfect Run on Galaxy 2, one of the first in what is now a trend of Nintendo doing really difficult levels locked at the absolute end of their games. The Perfect Run pales in comparison to some of the insanity you have conquered in this video. While part of me wanted to see the other galaxies you didn't clear, I fully respect your decision to skip them. I know that I, even in my prime back during childhood would not be able to clear this version of the game. Thank you for taking me along on this 3 hour journey, of my childhood game pushed to its limits. This was an absolutely incredible video, thank you very much for making it.
Absolutely fantastic video, and of extremely high quality to come out of a small TH-cam channel! The entire journey was just like a best-selling story, with moments of doubt and depression, only to be shattered by the extraordinary achievements you were able to accomplish. Insurmountable boundaries were overcame, and with them lessons to teach a generation. Fantastic video! Kaizo Galaxy 2?
Watching all of this while I was getting ill gave me a heavier emotional investment. This entire journey was so well documented and can be really well umderstood from a casual perspective. Thank you for pushing this out, this probably took ages. Peak entertainment. Cheers. (On that victory)

Congrats on beating this behemoth of a challenge! Your post-commentary note about the initial struggle you had with Bigmouth Galaxy was humbling. I've tried my own intense challenges with the games I play, and there are some times where I wonder if what I'm working on is really worth the effort I would need to put in. As of me typing this comment, I'm in the midst of grinding out a particular very rare event for an essentially worthless reward. I've been at this grind for long enough to where I want to see it through, but it's definitely mentally taxing.
This is honestly a fucking inspiring video. I just found your channel and watched this whole thing over the course of a few days when I had some time on my hands, and by God. Perfectly edited, I'm right there alongside you for every level. Just wow. Really impressed by your love for video games and love for difficulty, and your ability to fight in the face of strife.
