I think Paul found it difficult to play the bass riff and sing at the same time, so they swapped instruments when they performed this live. I don't blame him though, it's surprisingly difficult.
The Ghost Hunter some complex basslines can be easier to sing to than some of the most simple if that makes sense to you, for example Paperback writer by the beatles has a much more complex bassline that TNT by ACDC but it's much easier to sing to
Criminally. He wrote most of the Clash music and was just a first rate tunesmith. Strummer gets all the love but Jones is great. He also seems like a really nice guy in interviews.
True mate, Mick is criminally underrated, just like a Topper Headon. If band The Clash hadn't have a drummer of Topper's class, I believe that nobody wouldn't be heard of them, with Mick or without Mick. They would be still unsignificant punk rock band forever, but sinergy four of them, make The Clash only band from punk-rock scene that matters..
Well myself & friends did as the LP was released in 1979 ! - so it was performed on the following 16tons tour & stayed in their set...(LP was released in 1980 in the US )

@@jamestheyounger8895 And just so I don't get another dickish reply from you, when did you first hear this song? I first heard it the week this album appeared in the US, in 1980. Were you even alive then? And do you think radios stations played reggae back then? No, they didn't, pinche pendejo.
The Clash were never the "Only Band That Matters," because of course not. That was simply some *very* good Pop Music promotion. But so far as the Pop Music landscape went in those days . . . they were most definitely ONE of the only bands that mattered. For me, It just doesn't get much better than this. Brilliantly catchy Pop songs performed as just absolutely pure Rock and Roll. "Punk Rock" is a pathetic, shallow word, and yet it's the only one ringing for me right now. Because the *SONG* they're playing is totally my favorite one by them . . . but even that brilliant *SONG* they're playing is shadowed by the *_WAY_*_ they're playing it._ Pure Rock and Roll . . . like I said already. We need a band like the Clash more than ever right now...
Fab guitar from Mick and with cool guitar effects variations. I could call out Joe's bass but WTF it's The Clash, always inspiring.
Best punk band. Each song is different, yet great.
Joe did a great job playing the bass riff.
It would’ve been better if he played it without a pick because Paul wrote the line using his fingers which he rarely did
Interesting enough he didn’t play the verses like on the original. In the original the verses move to a higher register.
@@SammyJCuthbert dudes name is legit strummer hard to strum with your fingers.
@@SammyJCuthbert no, I think he played this one with a pick.
@@Riffmaster227 His real name was Mellor.
one of my most favourit songs ever, love paul singin
That's not singing...but Paul makes it's look pretty damn cool, though...
This is bloody brilliant!
You're bloody right!!
Wow sick version !
Non l'avevo mai ascoltata dal vivo : diavolo, che versione !!!!
the only band that matters
No they weren't.
They were a great band & (usually) exceptional 'live' ...
The line came from 'unofficial Clash promoter ' author Tony Parsons.
the conjunction of the planets, these guys are.totally connected!
Best opening lines ever!
I drive so Cal freeways, I call this “motivational road tunes”😎😎😎
Wow, Paul's playing Joe's guitar......So, is Joe playing bass?

just like joe Perry and Tom hamilton.. on Sick as a Dog..they swapped some times Live So Cool.

Just me or is Mick Jones vastly underrated?

He wasn't the nice guy in the band
@@lordclancharlie1325 nor was he too great at keeping a tune in live gigs - the gigs were great all the same.

And I didn't remember such of a reggae influence in this song.
If you remember the song how could you not remember it's reggae lol?
A lot of their songs has a reggae influence.....a lot. lol

Paul sounds like Joe 😮
The clash big banda vs nirvana 😢
*good
Oh darn Paul was a hair off beat singing.
First heard this song in 1982 and I don't like most of there songs after the Wall this and the VU blew my mind
JAHMEN
:D
Does Paul sing any other songs?
Red Angel Dragnet i belive, but there is only him talking, not singing. And there is a song called 'Crooked Beat', heavly underrated i'd say
Ironic how their stance is of Raab n Johnsonstein
Check out MATTIEL's very decent cover.
Why black and white? This was the 80s makes no sense
All the videos from the Capitol Theater are black and white. It’s just what they had in house.
