@@michaelmerck7576 I always figured he was an asshole. What he really needs is an old fashion ass whoopin' and that wise guy attitude of his will be adjusted.
A couple of comments. Having met King Richard at the Woodward Dream Cruise a few years back I can say he is definitely full of himself. He was carted around and acting like royalty. As for the show I personally think it ended long before Aaron left. The basic premise for the show is used car salesman and money man Richard would go buy a car and let Aaron do his thing and Richard would only occasionally show up which worked out perfectly. Things started changing when Aaron became more of a manager and told his crew what he wanted but didn't do anything himself on the cars. After telling them his vision he left them on their own. That is when it ended for me and I didn't watch it much after that. He was the show.
Tom Smith was the guy you wanted to have beers with, Aaron Kaufmann the guy you wanted to work with and Rawlings the guy you wanted to punch in the face.
he is the f40 was done by red car restorations in GM shop... i know bc i worked for tim of red car and bob norwood who found them the front clip for it
Richard is definitely a lit of things, and has been a lot of things..from a cop to a paramedic. One thing we can't take away from him...he's a self made man. That loud mouthed ego maniac built himself an empire off hard work and savy
I believe that a major cause of Rawlings' downfall was his friendship with Dennis Collins. Collins is a bona fide millionaire and a successful businessman. The social climbing Rawlings was so drawn to being like Collins that he engaged in businesses that were unsuccessful and he abused his employees so severely that they had no loyalty to the Gas Money brand. Of course, there was never any thought given to sharing the success/money with those responsible for creating it.....i.e. Aaron Kaufman's departure. When Rawlings and Collins would go on 'car buying' trips, you frequently saw Rawlings treat sellers very poorly where Collins almost always was much more generous and fair with his purchase offers. Collins was 24kt gold, Rawlings was shown to be gold-plate.
Never watched this show very much, tried to, but Richard was such an asshole I usually just turned it off. He was a good example of not how to manage people or a business.
True. But if you think this was bad, try just a few minutes of the wonderful Gold family (pawn brokers in Detroit) in the horrific "Hard Core Pawn". Ticks every box in hopeless customer and staff relations. One screaming match after another.

I liked the show it started to go down hill when he got into selling alcoholic beverages and he was drunk for most of the show. I thought that really wasn't necessary, especially since there's a lot of kids that watch the show and it's not good business practices to drink on the job. he made a complete ass of himself in the Pebble Beach episode where he showed his car. I met Richard twice -personally i would never do business with him, the real Richard is nothing like the TV version, its all fluff and those that worked for him know far more about the business, restoration, etc than he does-he is a salesman and not much else right or wrong

I quit watching a long time ago. Every build was the same as the last, always building with unrealistic delivery times, so everyone was under stress and every build had airbags on it. Like clockwork, Aaron would say, "I have an idea, lets put airbags on it"....And then of course because they rushed to build it, there would be last minute engine fluid leaks or some other thing that needed to be fixed. The same show, week after week, blah blah blah...
All of those shows are like that. The house fixer uppers and more. Throw in the personality conflicts and bam, ya gotta show. The script is like a form letter, insert detail here. Reminds me of the love boat in the 70's. Hated the show but I didn't have a clock( it came on right before I had to go to work ) set up, conflict, conflict resolution. You could time it down to 1 &1/2 minutes what time it was.
The phony emergency delivery time gimick goes back to Boyd Coddington and show. It creates drama and I used to sit in a bar with a local celebrity auto builder who has done losts of things for pro football players and others. His shop is called Big Dicks. Try putting that on TLC. Do you want it as is on Friday or perfect on Monday? Get real!
Cant say Richard didn't try to build an empire...and in many ways he did , .but when you burn out and mistreat the crew that does the builds for you while you run around acting like an idiot , it's pretty easy to predict the longevity of it's existence.
You know that Beretta, Manufacturers of the US service pistol, was founded in 1526? Krupp another European arms manufacturer started in 1587. Krupp also supplied the steel which built the US railroads and capped the Chrysler Building.

My service company used to service their paint booth and even though we accepted the jobs, you knew it would be a break even at best scenario. One time Richard said he needed the booth stark white again so we installed a special (expensive) coating made for booths and at the end of the day he walked in and said it was too white and would glare in the camera so we need to make it less white. Right..... Needless to say he didn’t pay us to fix it. Anytime we would get a call on his behalf, he would pretty much expect shit for free because of the show. None of that equipment was owned by him. It was all “consigned” (which is pretty normal from what I hear) with the promise of free advertising which products never got mentioned, only the 1 second camera shot. We never put any equipment in there because we didn’t see the benefit but that didn’t stop them from asking. Aaron was and still is a very nice guy. I’ve spoke to Richard at times and he was as normal as anyone else but when the cameras were on or even remotely close or at a public event he would let his ego get the best of him by turning into the 1 guy everyone wanted to punch before the day was done.
I thought he always had loads of cash. And he liked to flash it. I thought he should have more quality and professional staff. Too much goofing around to take the shops builds serious
"Fast N' Loud" died the day Aaron left, it just took a few years for Richard to accept it and finally pull the plug. Loved the early seasons and the amazing rides they created, but shenanigans outweighed production in the final years, and boredom set it. Would love to see Aaron back building amazing rides in the future, maybe with an equal partner that has the same sense of style as he has.
The best car modder around are Kingdig customs, amazing work blows Gas Monkey out the water. Plus Dave Kingdig seems lovely guy, not full of himself like Richard

Funny how aaron was was cooler than Richard, and he never even tried to be cool, richard tryed his hardest to be cool but wasnt hes just natrually not cool
Aaron Kaufman was clearly the smartest and best builder for the show " Fast N' Loud " ( aka: Gas Monkey ) : He theory was " Quality is First " on a true realistic schedule. OH YEA !

I was never a fan of Richard, I liked the skills and creativity of Aaron so when he left the show I quit watching. I like the skill and creativity involved in bringing a old broken vehicle back to life.
I literally seen the show for the first time while visiting my 75yo dad. He's a car guy, I'm a motorcycle guy. He loved the show, but said it changed for the worse. Successful people come and go, but being successful for the long haul takes perspective. If he feels everyone is beneath him and treats them accordingly, you'll fail because workers will look elsewhere. Owners have the drive to work 16hr days because they want to build an empire, workers want to work, go home and watch junior play ball, eat dinner with the family.
Exactly right... It takes a workaholic to build a business empire, but the people he hires to work for him are usually NOT workaholics. Employees usually have wives, kids, and family to deal with, and that's exactly why they aren't starting businesses of their own. Employers have to realize this, and understand it, otherwise they are going to have unhappy employees and low morale in the workplace. Keep your workers happy, and things will work out for the best. Overwork your employees, and treat them like robots and disposable grunts, and your business WILL fail.
@@merkinyall Well you have to admit, they both love themselves passionately, and neither one owns a mirror, and both wives hate their husbands. I'd pay $1000 for 5 minutes in a locked room, alone, with either one! LOL

I honestly tried to watch a few episodes without Aaron, and it just wasn't happening. Discovery tried to push Jason Aker as the replacement, but he originally got his start as the dork who knew all about "concours" restorations. That was a turning point in the series because it was basically Richard telling Aaron "you only know how to make things go fast." Aaron was gone before the season ended. Jason starts growing a beard, turns his baseball cap backwards, and buys a pair of shades.
"Could you imagine being crammed under a car in a mechanic shop with no A/C" Uhh.. yeah? Have you ever been in a shop? Most of them don't have A/C in the garage. Not having running water is fucked though.
Yep. Did it for 4 years. My dad did it his whole life. We obviously had water though. If you can build $100K cars you should be able to run a water line.
The thing that killed the show for me, was around season 2 or three when he started doing unrealistic timelines and pushing his employees harder. I was like "I seen this before, only it was Boyd Coddington at the lead" the moment it became the other show, i lost interest
@William Schwartz, I am not taking anything away from him, as a creative genius. But with that genius, there usually is a shit load of arrogance and hubris. The world lost a great mind, but all i could think of, was his crew could finally take a nap. I seen many many supposedly two day (claimed) stints, by the guys there trying to back his overloaded bravado up. loved his designs, but hated the guy as a whole. Right down to his fake modesty when showing the final product
@@gregorytimmons4777, I get that, the schedule was for the TV and discovery, but there was deadlines and sleepless nights to be sure. And I agree a lot of that was played up for the audience. just saying I hate dicks and assholes, and Boyd Coddington was a rare case of being capable of both. America HotRod became what American Chopper became, just a talking head show with more fluff than substance. And so did fast and loud, the same thing killed all three for me
After Aaron left the show I only watch when Gas Monkey was called out by Big Chief and the 405 from Street Outlaws. I'm glad Big Chief had put Rawlings in his place and he put that money on Richard Rawlings mouth, winning the race. Big Chief was right after all: I'll rather have it built than bought.
Sadly I've seen it many times as a tech. From simple mishaps with parts to changes in the job or deadlines. I've left a few shops to bosses like that. It's far to common in this field.
I never really liked the show too much after they moved from the original garage. I liked it when the program was about finding old cars and flipping them. Once they moved, the show seemed to go more "Hollywood" with celebrities, special builds for billionaires and corporations, Gas Monkey Bar and Grill, tequila, etc. Then Aaron left which did it for me.
Program's managers fueled Richard's ego, they knew it was a reclaim to the show. Also, Discovery itself wanted more show centered on Richard's attitude than the work made inside the shop. Same happened to Wheeler Dealers. The problem is Discovery itself, they wanted to get more profit from the shows and they just ended destroying them
@@BlackLibertyGT as far as I know, Discovery wanted the show to be less technical so it could gain more viewers, so they started to cut scenes inside the shop and, in some cases, hurrying Edd to do/finish his part asap, with no detailing or quality job. This, obviously, wasn’t well received by him, so he started to be a bit uncomfortable in the show, stating that the core of the show was the workshop itself. This ended with Discovery giving him the possibility of leaving the show, as he did. Discovery then decided to hire another person (Ant), giving the show a new look. More of a TV series than a workshop show, IMO. Please, note that every story has multiple sides, this is the one I know. I’m not defending one part or the other. I don’t work there, so this might be true or might be false. Also, I don’t know if Ed and Mike got angry before, in between, or after he left!

Rawlings should have made Aaron a partner in the garage to keep him from leaving. Sue the upholstery lady was the only one to treat Richard as he should be treated "Ass Monkey". That's why I like watching Stacy David's GearZ, he explains and shows how to actually do stuff on whatever you are working on, and his timeliness on his builds are much more realistic.
Rawlings is done on TV. It wasn't always about him and when you drive off the talent and are stuck alone, the magic ends too.

Richard is definitely a lit of things, and has been a lot of things..from a cop to a paramedic. One thing we can't take away from him...he's a self made man.
That loud mouthed ego maniac built himself an empire off hard work and savy
Well if he was a cop he probably stole a load of money heading back over the border that explains it all
Especially after he pussied out of a drag race.
I like the early days of Fast N Loud. Once it got popular more and more the shows were getting more and more produced and faking storylines.
happens with all those shows. They become less and less about the product and more and more about the toxic personalities.

Get real!

Never would of thought that but I suppose we will never know watching it on TV. Shame but what a dick nonetheless.

"Fast N' Loud" died the day Aaron left, it just took a few years for Richard to accept it and finally pull the plug.

I honestly tried to watch a few episodes without Aaron, and it just wasn't happening. Same happened to Wheeler Dealers. The problem is Discovery itself, they wanted to get more profit from the shows and they just ended destroying them
Curious, what happened in Wheeler Dealers?
@@BlackLibertyGT as far as I know, Discovery wanted the show to be less technical so it could gain more viewers, so they started to cut scenes inside the shop and, in some cases, hurrying Edd to do/finish his part asap, with no detailing or quality job. Rawlings should have made Aaron a partner in the garage to keep him from leaving. Sue the upholstery lady was the only one to treat Richard as he should be treated "Ass Monkey". He didn't appreciate the bargain prices she charged him so she kept raising her prices. I hope she's still doing well without him. Is fired up garage still in business?
Never did like his show or attitude. He will not be missed.
Didn't know the show was over
Richard was just on the Joe Rogan Experience and said he was done with the show. Ran out of new ideas and his contract was restrictive with Discovery.
didn't care as I quickly grew tired of attitude. RR is a jerk

Still watching the TH-cam show. I really appreciate the work and perseverance Richard has. That drive is something I wish I had.
