These are the type of repairs that professional reel repair guys don’t have time for. It’s not that they couldn’t do it but it really wouldn’t be worth their time. Time is money. I spent about 6 hours working on a five dollar reel. 😀
I'm glad you was able to salvage to reel. Being able to center the spool by backing off the right side bearing was something I did not think about (I was going to suggest gently removing material from the 'bad' side spool flange where it was rubbing the trim ring).
I knew it didn’t rub when I started so I figured it had to be out of adjustment. I’ve seen others that were like that. You just have to bring the spool into the center.
Oh no, you lost your data?😦 You could try Louis Rossmann, Rossmann Repair Group, in Austin TX. Bigger question is, how will you prevent a recurrence in the future? 2TB in the cloud might be pretty expensive, and a local backup solution would be expensive too.
I was surprised the hole-in-the-board thing worked as well as it did.
Good job on fixing this spool!
I believe it might have worked on the wood if I had drilled a smaller hole.
Absolutely awesome video of some ingenious efforts that eventually succeed. I am proud of you!

Yeah, kind of expensive. A quick review of pricing plans for several services showed IDrive as being the cheapest.
