One trick with the backscenes - since its basically the same as putting up wallpaper. Years ago, my father and I put wallpaper up in our old house; what we did to guide the long edge (which was vertical, but the same would apply) was to draw a guideline with a carpenter's pencil and a straight edge where the edge of the wallpaper would have to line up. Then when we unrolled each drop, we had the dark line on the wall as a guide for where the edge of the wallpaper had to be. Of course, you've got the backscene put up now, and here I am giving a suggestion far too late... but it looks really good.

Once again Charlie, a great video covering essentials of railway modelling. I admit, my heart was in my mouth with the backscene and although it didn't go quite according to plan, the situation was well recovered. Personally, I loved the nervous, almost cheesy grin from under the baseboard but, as you've always said, safety first and you're quite right. I've always been a bit puzzled with ferrules and sizes thereof but once again, you explain it in such a way that even I understand it. You have done, and are continuing to do, immense justice to the hobby in terms of skill, knowledge, ability and sheer enjoyment of your videos. A more worthy ambassador for railway modelling I would have immense difficulty in finding. Stay safe, take care & looking forward to your next instalment.

I like the wiring setup under the railway too. Neat and easy to see what's where. :-) When I was a kid, I saw for the first time the underside of a baseboard, and the amount of wiring was scary to me!
But the following exhibition, with my pocket money, I got a model railway wiring book, few point motors, wires and switches for the first time. Wiring them up was very daunting, but a while later, I found wiring so ease to understand. I can't remember what book it was, but what I got from it was something like this: If you can wire up 1 section of track, you can wire up 30 sections of track. If you can wire up 1 point, you can wire up 20 points. I you can wire up 1 set of joining points, you can wire up 10 sets of joining points. Understanding the few basics can get you 90% of the way to being more the able and confident with things like this. :-)
    Keep it up!

Fantastic, Charlie! Just an absolutely amazing layout and it's Western Region! Good lad. I model the Great Western and the Western Region with my Devizes branch. Love your channel man it's great. The wiring is of most interest to me as I am thinking about an exhibition layout or two in the near future. And the best thing is that you run DCC as well which is my sort of railway.
There's quite a lot of rivalry between the members of the British Railway Modellers of Australia in South Australia where I live. There's only about six members or a few more from memory that has DCC like me. The other forty to fifty-odd members in the SA branch have DC. Always a laugh and a half between members debating about which is the best and worst lol. Good times. Your layout is going to be a treat to see when finished. A perfect mainline railway!

I hate wallpapering! You've done a great job Charlie considering...... 😂 I just love our Friday insights into your layout. I have to say I love the fact you show your failures as well as successes. Good on you very entertaining. Stay safe 😎

the ferrule method is used in most factory automation systems. it's the way to go.
twisting the wires is very important, it allows for a much better grip of the wires by the ferrule (mechanical strength)

Amaury Jacquot ... and when properly crimped the connection is gas-tight so no fear of corrosion in the future.

Another great video, classic case of focusing on short edge before long edge when going back scene. Something came up on Facebook this morning was track cleaning, might be worth doing a video on it if you haven’t already.

Charlie, great video, filled with some awesome tips and tricks. Sorry the background was ruined on the first try but looks awesome all completed. Love the wiring tips and tricks. I am using the terminal blocks and love that system. I see your point on the usage of the plug type if you make you layout portable. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken

You need a decorator Charlie ha ha .As for the bumps in the track their all over the network especially on more rural routes and even on some of the more high speed track where you get side to side movement and even a bit of cyclic top in some places .

Charley, if your terminal crimpers have removable dies, you can use different dies for different terminals.

You could use masking tape along the top edge to help alignment and to stop paste spreading further up the wall.

      @ChadwickModelRailway  4 ปีที่แล้ว

The trouble is Mike the masking tape will pull off the paint.

Great work as usual Charlie. I admire your willingness to stuff up in public. (back scene). I don't seem to be able to get the plug in terminal blocks here in Australia. I'll keep looking. Thanks mate.

Those 12way terminal blocks can hold a maximum current spread of 70amps at 240volts, as each block is 6amp rated 6x12=72/240v, so on a 15volt layout a single strip can hold massive amounts of current.on my n gauge setup i use ribbon cable

The 12 way block great advantage is the bus bar strips.

We use industrial versions of legs like that, if you have another nut on the thread on the foot side winding into the bracket you can use it to lock the foot to stop it moving over time with vibration/knocks etc... it will act as a jam nut
Also with the bootlace ferrules at the end, you can get 2->1 bootlace ferrules, the entrance is a bit more oblong to allow 2 wires better 👍

How did you get from here to there? With blood, sweat, pain, elbow grease and a little crying. Oh wait that's me with my railroad. Great video. You make everything look pretty easy. I'm super nervous about certain things in my future. Two of them are Backdrop and pouring the river. Absolutely love the adjustable feet.

@@ChadwickModelRailway Thanks Charlie! We certainly will. Mike's father/my grandfather was always into anything transport/model related. I'm sure with consistent, insistent, persistent tactics, Mike may think about building one. Or, perhaps something else model related (HMS...) :)

Greetings Charlie. A couple of points. Love the connector blocks, however with track, signals, points, scenic lighting, etc., etc I have one board with over 150 wires on so afraid for me it is still good old D type connectors. Oh the joys of DC.
With wall "piccies" I always draw a dead straight line on the wall and hang to that, just like wallpapering only in this case horizontal. Thankfully as is the modern preference I have completely disposed of back scenes all together.
Everything looking great old chap....keep up the good work.
    Stay safe.
    Cheers, Bob
