    Junction box in the attic should be mounted to the side of the joist rather than on top. That way no one will step on it when walking in the attic.

    Great video. I made 2 changes as I installed recessed lights in our home - 1. Use a dry wall saw to manually cut the dry wall, as this hole cutter needs a center to first anchor on. Given that we have an hole existing hole, we can't anchor on anything. 2. The junction box shouldn't be sitting on top of the joist as may step on it down the lane, as insulation would be covering it. Instead it should be mounted on the side of the joist.

      manual saw is definitely a better way to go if there is already a hole, as you can see in the video :)
      side mount works as well. for mine, the J box I leave visible with the insulation wrapped around it so just the top of the box can be seen and not stepped on

      Same. Was having issue hallway light with the old ceiling light can. Other videos show few screws and these box come off but mines is exactly like the video. Need to go up attic and remove the one nail.
      Thanks for confirming this so I was able to complete the task & added LED lights to my hallway.

    I installed 5” and 7” flat panels with my existing octagon boxes when I recently changed out my old “boobie” lights. So much better. I like this idea but I wasn’t inclined on doing all that kind of work. Good job 👍

    I'm surprised you were able to make the hole with that hole cutter, It's designed to be used where there was no existing hole before. The center drill bit needs to drill into the ceiling and keep the cutter stabilized. That's why you got that one small imperfection. Nice work.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I knew it would be a challenge keeping my hands still enough without a pilot hole to steady the hole cutter. Lesson learned there.
      I'm putting new recessed lights in my son's rooms when it gets a bit warmer and will use the hole cutter to much better effect 😂

    question if I had a ceiling fan installed and wanted to connect it to recessed lights would I just connect all three wires together. whites to whites. blacks to blacks and copper to copper?

  • @CeilingFanVideosOnYT
    @CeilingFanVideosOnYT 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Ceiling fan would be useful in hallway just to move air around, which can reduce AC and heat usage.

    Nice video. I have metal conduit with wire inside coming to a ceiling light fixture where I have no attic access. I'm wanting to replace with a similar recessed light as in you video but not sure on the connection. When I would cut a bigger 6 inch hole in drywall my conduit is in the way. Not quite sure hot to cut conduit back and then be able to connect to the new junction box. Any suggestion appreciated

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you have different codes where you live, you might want to find out what your county or township requirements are.
      You might have to reroute the conduit so that it isn't in the way of where you want the recessed light to be

    I have the same light and same insulation and want to install same lights but just conserned about the possible heat the led can produce as some do het pretty hot and that cotton insulation covering it concerns me. How has it held up
