Once upon a time nobody cared about weight. Now the massive airspace zones (including my house where I have flown without incident for years,) are now restricted to
Something i wanted to see, but didnt know i wanted to see it, until i actually saw it.
The batteries, the ones that fit, and didnt fit this frame.
Thats so cool.
Lol I have bought a lot of 2s batteries. Really I probably buy more batteries than props 🤷🏻♂️
This is actually the reason I wanted to help support this channel. I want to support some of the other guys but the 30 seconds or so where he showed the batteries means a lot
Lots of litle cinewhoops coming out lately. Plenty of choice is always a good thing. Looks like you put it through a good test run, bottoming out and all. Thanks for sharing the video, Cheers!
Fantastic flying and review, Nick! 😃
Pretty interesting little quad!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hi Nick, Great video and review of the GEPRC DarkStar. For a DJI whoop its a good little quad.
Ordered one about a week ago, can't wait to get it!
How do you like it? I'm thinking of getting one to replace my mobula 8
Nick Hello nice video i was just offered by my local hobby shop the Dark Star no VTX. seeing your flight i think best on calm days for the size and power. But nice i like it.
I fly my Mobula8, which is a 2s 2" also, on moderately windy days and it wiggles, but it can do it. It's also funny to fly at a 45 degree angle just to go straight in the wind, but it still does it!
Ordered mine!
If THIS is the quietest then I def don't regret ordering the Pavo20
Loose cells, I wrap a hair tie around the battery to keep it still. It also helps to keep the battery leads neat
I need one
🤔I wasn't wanting a whoop, Nick.
Now I'm conflicted. 😁
I think that thing over the camera is supposed to be camera protection if it is in the right place, but as you say, you would have to tighten down the screws, however I have seen another reviewer do this with no problem...I agree though, would need to be careful doing it. I just ordered one.
Was bidirectional dshot off on yours? Mine was.
Can you please do a setup video on how to configure the drone on betaflight and binding to DJI goggle and controller.
Just purchased one and can’t get the drone to fly.
there are many DJI O3 binding videos on youtube. The O3 requires activation before it can be bound to the goggles and/or controller. download and install the DJI FPV consumer app, plug in usb and the app will slowly detect the usb connection and ask to activate.
Thanks for the battery confirmation I hardly have any that would fit aka the rdq and some gnb. Considering getting this one and adding a naked vista will the time get effected ?
Thanks again Nick for a great review
effected...yes, Any weight change has an impact. The smaller the change in weight the smaller the change.
@@NickBurnsFPV sorry not time “tune” by adding a vista instead of an 03 that it was intended to be used with.
@@Rc_impulse The drop in weight could effect the tune. I expect if it were to be a larger impact the manufacturer should have adjusted the tune for that version.
😍😍😍🚀🚀🚀
think it could lift and fly ok with a naked gopro or DJI action 2 (i think its slightly heavier)?
only okay for short flat flying, but mounting will require a deigned mount
Great vid as always Nick! I wonder if or how this quad would go with a 2s lion pack.
It could fly flat longer but after more aggressive flight would be super hard and perform poorly
@@NickBurnsFPV thanks. 🙏 Know anyone whose tried?
@@engizmo I don't. Long range flight on youtube or online is one way to be investigated by local authorities. But it could be out there somewhere.
Are you charging the 550mah GNB lihv to the full capacity when flying with the dark stars or like a regular lipo? 2:04
I only charge 1s batteries to high volt...all other batteries are charged to standard 4.2volts/cell.
How is the noise level compared to the Pavo20? Pavo looks nicer, but I am afraid it's also much louder.
I really can't compare them all over time. I suggest listening to both videos and trying to draw your own conclusion.
Hi Nick, another great review, thank you! I watched it even though I'm not interested (because there's no non-DJI version).
I have one question (and I know you're doing this in your spare time, so no pressure at all, I just want to know if it makes sense to wait or if I decide right now): I have to decide if I do my next build with the OddityRC XI25 or XI20 4s frame and motor combo. And I'm obviously very interested in your take off the XI20 because of this (you mentioned there might be a review of it in the future).
So the question is: is there a chance that your review will drop in n the next few weeks?
I don't have it yet, so if I did have a review up in the short run it would need to get here quick.
What’s the recommended charger for this type of battery?
Any lipo charger Will work as long as it has and xt30 and balance lead connections
Great video as always!! Would you recommend placing it alongside my Cinelog 20 or even replacing it?
Short answer is no. I don't see a benefit other than noise level
Thanks 😉
witch one find you better FlyLens 85 2S or pavo 20 for freestyle
I like the flylens85 more for my style of freestyle
can i plug 2 550 batteries in parallel to increase flight time ? thanks
I guess, not sure how the batteries would be mounted. Also keep in mind doubling the battery mah capacity doesn't double flight time, we also have to life the additional weight.
Do you get any kickback if I buy the dark star from your links from Geprc? (the other links have the frame but not the VTX in it)
From GepRC yes, Not all the others are affiliates.
@@NickBurnsFPV cool. Ordering from Gep from that direct link you provided. Thanks again for the review!
Nick what's the tape called that you always use on your motor wire arms...thanks
I call it emax tape, but I also have it linked way down in the video description from amazon.
I’m thinking on getting this one for inside jobs! Would this be the best one??
I did a 2inch cinewhoop roundup here th-cam.com/video/87paFkhZLIY/w-d-xo.html let me know if I can help further.
Is that little lid a sun shade maybe? Sounds silly now that I’m typing it out….
I guess it could be but do we need something like that? I am still stumped if it’s not just decorative
that was a really good hover at the 5:00 mark.. thanks for the review.. how would you rank it against cl20 and cl25?
The cl20 and 25 run 4s so much different and louder too. For flat flying only this would be fine but if the noise isn’t an issue I suspect most would be better served by the cl20 and 25
@@NickBurnsFPV great. i just want to have slow stable flights wherever i go... i dont race nor freestyle. so something that has minimal jello is best.. noise can be an issue on some places though especially in the city.
@@botchitong bigger propped quads are going to be more stable with each step up. But if they need to be stealthy this one is pretty quiet. I don't think any of the 4s cinewhoops are as quiet as this one.
What camera angle do u recommend on this type of quads?
I don't really recommend, it will widely depend on the person flying and the type of flying
GEPRC is way to expensive nowadays. I've bought a Mark V and two cinelog 35 in the past, but the prices are not competitive anymore.
Have the prices been going up in the last year to 18months?
@@NickBurnsFPV I bought the cinelog35 vista with crossfire for approx. 450$. Now even the cinelog20 with O3 is 515$ ...
@@BumbleBeeFPV oh boy, that is a climb
How do you fly indoor like this any advice about betaflight tricks?
There are no tricks, practice practice practice. This video may help on the progression th-cam.com/users/shortsPBAo4fW7DDQ
From three drones, pavo20, darkstar20 or flylens85, which one you would prefer overall? Greetings from Russia =)
I like the flylens85 the most, by a healthy margin
Hey Nic, noob question here.>> why is TBS crossfire more expensive than ELRS? greetings from Dubai
Likely due to crossfire is only available from one source and elrs has many manufacturers.
What other props can be used?
Well any that are 2inch props. Some may require pid tune change though.
you have a lot of 2s batteries!
Could you please make same size fitment comparison with pavo pico too?
Did I not in the Pavo pico video?
@@NickBurnsFPV I remember you said only betafpv batteries will fit. I'm asking because I bought Pavo pico with crossfire and there is no space for both crossfire and battery strap
@@wlad792 I went back and watched, then did a quick test. Unfortunately other batteries like the gnb can fit but they will either be overly tight or require some tape around them to make it fit well enough to stay put. Betafpv makes their battery trays specific to their batteries.
@@NickBurnsFPV thanks a lot! I found one option, I'm using 2x 1s betafpv 550mah bt2.0 on my Pavo pico. As far they are new they fit perfectly fine
what was the flight time in fast style ?
about 2.5 minutes
Nice quad but naaah I have my mobula8 :D I put mobula8 componets on pavo pico frame without ducts And it fly amazing , more agressive than before
What flight time and what battery are you using with that configuration?
@@kurtzFPV i have only 450 , 3 minutes of agressive flight
@@damianwyczakowski2491 thanks

What do you recomend for quietest one? No jello and longest one? Thanks
I think it’s pretty clear in the video on the first question. I don’t understand the “longest one”? Longest flight time?
Definitely Flylens 85. There is no doubt about it. 7-8mins flight time
@@NickBurnsFPV yes longest flight time, thanks
@@fongfpv738 noted, thank you
I would love to know too! Quiet and longer flight time. Maybe above 5min?
Hello !

Don't like those kinds of battery holder. I usually clip the bottom and put a strap on them. I've been flying for over 30 years, and honestly think I've had more fun with whoops over the years than any other area of the hobby. With the advent of digital video, it's even more fun. There may be better quads of this type out there than this, but unless you are a hardcore acro flyer, I think this is the best buy of them all.
I'm so sick of manufacturers coming out with whoops that use a battery tray! Trays are so old news. If it doesn't have a real option for a battery strap, no way I'm ever gonna buy it! Those trays limit us so much it's ridiculous! Maybe in 2016, but not in this day and age! I want to use any of the lipos I currently own and I'm not gonna buy the specific ones that fit. I JUST WON'T BUY THE QUAD!
🤔🤦🤬
That thing scream...😮
Since GepRC didn´t work with WS anymore, im out. Too bad they give to DJI
People jumped the gun on this, they weren't selling many WS at all and the numbers don't make sense. It's simply they consolidated when it came time to ink those deals. Dji is known to do some shifty shit but so is everyone else.
Bardwell did a poll where a huge number of people voted. Many more than any poll I've ever seen.
DJI had about 50% market share, Walksnail was at 9%, and HDZero at 8%. So to make expensive BNF's for systems that have such a low market share probably isn't a great business decision for them.
🤷
They didnt develope the WS system, just need to asembly. But that´s not the point. I just say that the brand lost me cose i fligh WS @@KOrnhOliO1
