Love your work Mt Burns 👏. It probably worth discussing the BRAND warranties for all your reviews? - I watched a previous review and went with GEP. ooops... Yeah, My experience with GEPRC ouch! I started my build 5 weeks after receiving it - a big mistake with this brand. The short version, they said "bad luck" haha 30 days warranty and offered me $20 toward a new AIO FC/ESC board. You should also recommend to your viewers (maybe) that they photograph electronics before getting started, macro, both sides - these photos will prove invaluable when GEP tries to say anything/everything is the customer's fault or a crash. and NOTHING is a factory faulty. GEP support knowledge is low/basic. GEP ships with very old ESC firmware with no RPM filtering - unlike JHEMCU which ships with Bluebird 19.2.

I get your point over the 85 being a better option for outdoors but I have a GEPRC cinelog 35 V2 for that and the 85 couldn’t get anywhere near it. I bought this pavo20, it arrived 4 days ago. But the day it arrived I saw that the props size is the same as the mobula8, it good because is 3S, but it's heavier too. The box for my pavo20 is here, I haven't opened it and I'm going to return it. For those who have mobula 8 I don't think it's worth it, but it's better than the pico. Anyway Nice review, thanks Nick!

If you see this, investigate the betaflight configuration application OSD page. Look for the items Link quality or RSSI. Those should be what your looking for.
Hey Nick! Great video! I noticed that you use a 720mAh battery, but BetaFPV recommends 450-650mAh. Would using the 720mAh cause any complications long term? Thanks!
No it will be fine. The size of the battery only impact flight characteristics. The wear on electronics and such wouldn't be impacted. We could see an impact in durability if the battery weight gets to high and we crash. More weight=higher impact and potential for more damage.

Another great video as always. How does this compare to the Flylens 85 with regard to sound profile and flight performance though? Having a hard time deciding between the two. A TPU camera shroud would be necessary with the Flylens 85, that's for sure.
The sound is very similar to my ears. Best to judge that yourself. I like the flylens more, its lighter overall and feels more responsive and can handle faster manuvers better. The pico20 with a 3s battery, we can feel the weight pulling us off our lines and we have to compensate with more throttle.

During the flight you mention RockSteady being on, but that won't come through to the goggles it will only be in the recorded video. This is super smooth for goggle view. Putting the Darkstar20 to shame imo

Great video and review as always. I’d like to pitch in my 2¢ about the usb port. I like not having a hard mounted usb port on my fc. It always seems to get in the way of the frame or canopy or something else. And if there is a weight savings factor, then 100% this should be standard on micros like 65mm. Any ways just my thought🤷🏻♂️

Perhaps with 2" props and more space, or even 2.5"... Unfortunately it won't be any soon, but I think about building it with Walksnail. So, I don't know, perhaps you could want to take a look. Nick, just FYI, enabling RockSteady is only applied to the SD card recording on the O3 air unit. It is not applied to the DVR recording on the Goggles.

But you don't have to take my word for it, Oscar Liang's blog about the DJI O3 also mentions this. Per his blog post - "EIS, or Electronic Image Stabilization, is an option to use the built-in Rocksteady technology for stabilizing footage recorded by the O3 Air Unit. Note that this doesn’t affect what you see in the goggles, only the recorded videos.". Another blog from Haye Kesteloo - "DJI incorporated RockSteady stabilization into the DJI O3 Air Unit, enabling fully stabilized footage directly off of the SD card and D-cinelike color modes". Also from the DJI O3 documentation - "* Video stabilization application refers to either the DJI O3 Air Unit EIS function or third-party video stabilization software." What do you think about putting bigger motors on the Pavo20? For example 1204 or 1404? BetaFPV has a F405 AIO 20A 2-4S board, so maybe swap that with the original and go 4S with 5000-6000kv motors, any thoughts? Of course for outdoor flights :)
I always worry about adding weight to the cinewhoops, could be a compromising factor in the prop protection durability. With that I would of the two listed motor options go with the 1204. I would expect more quick prop response and ability to handle triblades.

Really either will do inside just fine, I would run the pavo on 2s just to lower the weight for inside use. To keep the props out of view on the pavo20 mount it as seen at 15:21

I don't know why the images show a single antenna. If you scroll down the page the package contents doesn't list any antenna and the lower picture shows two small antenna which is what I received.
It will will depend on which version. FPV drones come with different receivers and the receivers operateon different protocol. currently the most popular is EspressLRS receivers, which isn't directly compatible with your radio. Your radio would require an ExpressLRS module in the bay on the back.

I do have the dark star. I had been hoping to fly it recently, but its been pretty windy and rainy. Looking at the weather my best bet is to fly it Monday, as the winds are to be 10mph, but above 15mph for the next two weeks. I hope the weather "schedule" changes.

Hi, your vids are great, thank you! Question, how does the Pavo 20 record the hd video footage from that 03 camera? Is there a sd card slot on the drone or something that records the actual footage? and does it record the video feed into the goggles on a separate memory card or something? Also does the propellers ever come into view of the camera when recording video?
The DJI O3 which is the camera and vtx combo in this does have on board recording space as well as an sd card video can be recorded to. The goggles 2 also record, the goggles 2 also record the onscreen osd information.
The pid tune I use in all reviews are those that come with the drone from the manufacturer. I only move osd elements, set the modes to the switches I use and rates I use.
So, I just returned 2 pairs of Fatshark Recon hd 's because I was unable to update the firmware. Decided to go with DJI. Any advice on updating firmware here? Excellent job btw!

@@tomtailor7663INSIDE to start fpv with this on 3s will be very challenging and I wouldn't recommend. Outside with a larger margin for error will be okay. If this is your first quad I would suggest a good amount of time on a fpv simulator and starting with 2s batteries with this drone.

So I got the elrs version is there no way to run my DJI radio I mean if not it's fine I can use my Zorro but I really wouldn't mind keeping everything on the same radio
I am not certain of if we can make it work with the dji radio without soldering. To try to switch, first make a backup of the betaflight configuration from the cli page, type "dump", then save that output to your computer. Then to try to use the dji radio....switch the rx protocol to sbus. There could be another step or two I am not thinking of but that is a start at least.

In fpv we have been using expresslrs for a few years. Radiomaster and jumper are the manufacturers we have been mostly using and they are able to use with a pc. The radiomaster pocket is a budget radio to look at

Great review. The maneuver your are describing is a "Split S". Common in FPV racing. Also very fun :)

Honestly, I don't know. In reviews I generally don't change camera settings. With that, the iso or shutter would be the shipping defaults.

When comparing DJI O3 based quads, 1:1, yes, they will all overheat if left without air flow/flight.

flylens85, due to the weight, but thats the O3 lite or naked version. I felt the 3s battery would pull me off my lines if I didn't compensate enough.

I do have the dark star. I had been hoping to fly it recently, but its been pretty windy and rainy. Looking at the weather my best bet is to fly it Monday, as the winds are to be 10mph, but above 15mph for the next two weeks. I hope the weather "schedule" changes.

It depends on the camera angle flown at.

Hi, your vids are great, thank you! Question, how does the Pavo 20 record the hd video footage from that 03 camera? Is there a sd card slot on the drone or something that records the actual footage? and does it record the video feed into the goggles on a separate memory card or something?
Also does the propellers ever come into view of the camera when recording video?
The DJI O3 which is the camera and vtx combo in this does have on board recording space as well as an sd card video can be recorded to. The goggles 2 also record, the goggles 2 also record the onscreen osd information.

The pid tune I use in all reviews are those that come with the drone from the manufacturer. I only move osd elements, set the modes to the switches I use and rates I use.

In your review, you said that you would not recommend a 3s drone in this format to beginners - it is too complicated to control. Did I misunderstand you? I have flight experience only in the simulator.
@@tomtailor7663INSIDE to start fpv with this on 3s will be very challenging and I wouldn't recommend. Outside with a larger margin for error will be okay. If this is your first quad I would suggest a good amount of time on a fpv simulator and starting with 2s batteries with this drone.

So I got the elrs version is there no way to run my DJI radio I mean if not it's fine I can use my Zorro but I really wouldn't mind keeping everything on the same radio
I am not certain of if we can make it work with the dji radio without soldering. To try to switch, first make a backup of the betaflight configuration from the cli page, type "dump", then save that output to your computer. Then to try to use the dji radio....switch the rx protocol to sbus. There could be another step or two I am not thinking of but that is a start at least.

Hi Nick, went to the Beta-flight web page using the link you provided, it shows the quad with the 03 cameras, transmitter with one single round antenna, unlike the small dual antennas on yours, I am new to the hobby and in what looks to be a steep learning curve😃 wonder, should I try to find an 03 kit with smaller antennas like yours, or does it really matter? Always look forward to your next TH-cam video, Don. PS also put this question in comments, but want to really say thank you for what you do.
The Pavo pico and the Pavo 20 come with those mini antennas.

No, typically I run them as they come setup, which is often 16:9, 4k/60 with auto focus off.

In fpv we have been using expresslrs for a few years. Radiomaster and jumper are the manufacturers we have been mostly using and they are able to use with a pc. The radiomaster pocket is a budget radio to look at
