Re the memorial to Keith Butler - he was the caretaker for the site, when they were restoring Rewanui. He was working to maintain the buildings, to preserve what was left. He was killed one night, in a landslide that destroyed the building that he was living in. His body was never recovered.

Is that settlement in the deep gorge high up on the left after you cross the old bridge ? There used to be a tunnel going through to it fro the Spark & Party mine. It was called Siberia.
