Larry Creek Historic Gold Mining Site New Zealand
Larry Creek
A 6 km (3.7 mi) forestry road runs north of the river from SH69 to Larrys Creek Track, which runs a further 2.4 km (1.5 mi) to the site of the Caledonian Gold Mine.[7] The mine operated from 1874 to 1910, with shafts up to 285 ft (87 m) deep.[8] It is the most northerly in the Reefton goldfield, in albite-epidote hornfels facies, which are less than 370 million years old.[9] Remnants of a stamping battery and a Robey portable steam engine are at the mine site.[10] Colinton was formed in 1874[11] as the township for the mine (and the river was sometimes called Colin River). By 1878 it had a population of 44,[12] but was gone by 1901. Just upstream is a deep, rocky gorge.[13]
The only bridges over the river are the Stillwater-Ngākawau railway and SH69.[14] Railway bridge 74 was a 325 ft (99 m) road-rail bridge of 7 spans, built in 1905 for £2,915.[15] A bridge was planned at Colinton in 1880, but never built.[16]
Nothofagus fusca (red beech, or tawhai raunui) forests grow to about the 350 m (1,150 ft) contour, with Nothofagus menziesii (silver beech, tawhai, or tahina) up to the tree line at about 1,300 m (4,300 ft).[17] Tūī, Anthornis melanura (korimako, makomako, kōmako, or bellbird), Petroica macrocephala (ngirungiru, or tomtit) and Petroica australis (Kakaruwai, or South Island robin) live in the bush.[18]

Abandoned Heritage Protected Converted House Stables
มุมมอง 3856 หลายเดือนก่อน
Was on the market for many years until it fell into Abandonment and a state of disrepair, this historic building known as the "Stables" was originally built in the late 1800s by the well known businessman A J White to house his horses, and with a hay loft on the upper floor. Converted in the 1950s into three flats. We believe it went on the market as it would'nt have met the requirements for th...
Seddonville History Explore

Seddonville was named after Prime Minister of New Zealand Richard Seddon. It was established in the late 19th century as a mining community after the discovery of significant coal reserves in the area. Several mines nearby opened, with varying degrees of success,[7] until the last one closed in 1986, due to having up to 6% sulphur in its coal.[8] Coal was first discovered in 1862,[9] when the N...
PART TWO Of A History Explore around Blackball

Blackball was a centre of New Zealand radicalism and workers' militancy. It is credited as the birthplace of (the predecessors of) the New Zealand Labour Party, which followed the 1908 miners 'cribtime' strike, at ten weeks the longest in New Zealand history.[3] In the 1913 Great Strike, Blackball miners were the last to return to work, in 1914. During the strike they had picketed miners in nea...

Ross Historical Cemetery and Goldfields Gold mining walk track
มุมมอง 5929 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Ross Goldfields Information & Heritage Centre is located at the southern end of Aylmer Street and is the one-stop spot for gold mining history and regional information. You can hire or buy a gold pan and head up to the DOC fossicking area at Jones Creek, where gold was first discovered in 1865, and the odd flecks are still uncovered today. Or, if time is short or the weather wet, you can pa...

Historical Abandoned Coal Mining Road Explore Westcoast NZ (Part One)
People should be aware that while the Seddonville (North entrance) is closed some way in because of the rockfall, it is still better than nothing and you can get some good sightseeing in until you hit that. The DOC signage on Charming Creek Rd Seddonville explains this clearly. Because if you try go in the Ngakawau (Southern entrance) way it is not going to happen. It is impassable now due to the slip you point out at 23;00. which is no longer a 'wee' one but huge. I wished we had known this in advance but we got so much misinformation even after the fact. Some point between April and now things got a lot worse probably due to the extreme weather through October. Anyway it;s a shame and one day perhaps I'll try again but it's unlikely I will be able to do so.
Where is the entrance?
That was not a pigeon it was accurate
Awesome videos bro, love ya Bullterrier , i had a pure white girl till she passed just after her 15th birthday ❤
Lovely spot spent alot of time in and around Seddonville and this part of the west coast over the last couple of decades
The Chasm Creek walkway holds a couple of treats. About 100m short of the tunnel you cross a small bridge. The Mokihinui river is full of old railway carriages pushed in to save the line. 50 yards short of the tunnel on the right is a little cave where the shot firers used to shelter when blasting the tunnel.
The first coal shipped off the West Coast was mined on the North Bank of the Mokihinui river opposite the tunnel. It was then barged down the river to Scott's Bank and put onto a sea faring ship. The piles to the coal wharf are still in the river.
Went there years ago with my brothers to film we caught shadow spirits an orbs to this day we dont no what happen to the recording

That it's a cool explore but there a really cool tunnels just up the main road a little too,we explored the area 15 odd years ago and was a lot of it a working tourist attraction
My father rolled his little car into the cemetery many years ago while he was home on leave from the army!! He had picked up a mate at the shop and off they went down the hill!! He was a resident. .His mother, my grandmother killed herself at Roa.
Good to see the TFENZ crew out and about again 👌

That was one of the best explores of Kingseat that I have seen bro. Thank you. I especially liked how the ending went with the drive around. That place is huge. Been past it several times and still I never would have thought it was that big. The morgue is tiny right. How did they cope with the amount of death there then? Is my question. Thank you I’d love to come out and explore with you.
Thank you There is a part two to this where we explored and also investigated. Thank you for watching and commenting 😎👍
So many voices all going at once at the beginning It’s annoying
