    Occasionally, I’ll start watching one of your videos and think, “I’m never gonna use this“. But then, if I keep watching, the light bulb goes off and I think “wow!“ This is one of those videos. Love Smart Folders!

      I thought the same thing. I instantly created a Recent Smart Folder. Explaining that they are just search results made Smart Folders look like something I should be using. Not just for Notes, but for Documents and PDF files.

    i wish Apple can now come up with "a folder" to put my "smart folders" in and then it will work nicely with links included in them. Because I have so many smart folders and some of them needs to be in a folder. Love all your videos by the way 👍🏻

    Couple things I don’t like about Smart folders, is one you cannot nest a smart folder inside of another folder. I’d like to be able to group folders in the way that I want. On top of that, I understand how smart folder is a confusing term as a folder makes you think that that is where you are storing something. But to call it a search or a saved, doesn’t sound right to me either, because the word search inherently sounds like something temporary. And calling something a saved search does doesn’t feel like I am organizing something. The truth at the end of the day, is that folders and smart folders are for two different types of people I think. Smart folders are for those who don’t want to spend time organizing and instead would like to write a tag or have key information, that then sort a note to wear they think they’ll be able to find it later. Whereas you have the other people who take proactive measures to manually clean their room, or in this case to manually clean and organize their notes or whatever application.

    Good video as usual. 👍🏻
    Can you please make a holistic video on linking various apps on both iOS & Mac OS? Eg. notes to reminder, calendar event to reminder, mail to reminder, so on and so forth.
    Please cover all apps or event that can be linked or the ones that cannot be linked. Eg. Linking a birthday event to a reminder is not possible, if the birthday is input whilst creating a contact.

    I recently got a new MacBook Air, and your channel has been very helpful. Is it possible to organize smart folders into one main folder?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In Notes? No. Move them to the bottom of the list and try to limit how many you create. If you have a lot of Smart Folders is it because you have a lot of notes? Maybe consider other ways of storing data too: Pages or TextEdit documents, Numbers spreadsheets, etc. It all depends on the type of data you are storing.

    Great video, thanks again for the effort you put into them. I do have one question which I see other people complain about them as well.. How many Smart Folder do you use? I love to go wild with smart folders but then the list gets so long that it is not useful.. I’d like to see apple adding a way to organise the Smart Folder (e.g. by nesting them) but until they do… do you have an advice in how many smart folders are still useful?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tend not to use many at all (1 or 2) and just a few folders too. If you have that many notes that you need lots of folders and Smart Folders, you may want to think about your system and consider alternatives, like using regular documents for some of the information.

    And then there is the not small issue that Apple doesn't provide PDF or photo or video annotation tools (pen, selection, pull quotes, stickies, custom metadata, text boxes, margin notes, etc) in its Mac Notes application. Looks like I have to jump out of Notes and into Preview or Photos to annotate a PDF or image. Can this really be true?

    Wish apple would allow me to put a smartfolder in a folder. Now it is useless for me since I would like to make a lot of smart folders and don’t want them to appear in the main folder list.
    If they add this you don’t have to make folders again and just leave all you notes in the “all iCloud” and sort everything with smart folders.
    Hopefully they add it later.

    Sadly the options within Smart folders are not available in Monterey. Apple should make Notes universally equal across all OSs - its not like the new features need masses of never-seen-before raw computing power. This discriminates against older software.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure what you mean. That's not how software updates work. New versions get new features. If the old versions got new features they would be the new versions and there would be no old versions. You can get the new version by simply updating your software.

      All is good with my current Mac OS & iOS devices.
      However, I also have a 2015 MacBook Pro running Monterey 12.7.5, the latest version this MacBook Pro will allow to be installed. Using Monterey 12.7.5, trying to edit a smart folder created in current MacOS to iOS will result in the message "Partially Supported. This Smart Folder uses unsupported features. To edit it, upgrade to the latest version of macOS."
      I appreciate what you - and this message from Apple - say, but you can't 'simply update your software’. Monterey 12.7.5 is the latest version that will install onto this 2015 MacBook Pro. To upgrade means buying a new computer. There are still occasional point updates to this Monterey OS (I installed one last week). I can’t, technically, see why Apple can’t update the OS and in so doing copy and paste the newer Notes branch into the older software. This does not require immense computing power to run the latest Notes application. Effectively, this contributes to shortening the life of an otherwise capable device.

    First thing anyone expects in a "Smart" folder is a text string search. Apple has decided to omit string search from its Notes "Smart Folder" criteria… WTF? So many times in a day I wonder who is in charge at Apple, and how it is that they continue to make the most ludicrous product decisions.

    • @macmost
