    Gary, you are my guy. If I need to know about something and your video is in the list, I watch yours first. I have never understood how to use smart folders, but after watching this, I can see where it can streamline access to my information. Thank you SO MUCH!!!!

    I have long been a fan of Apple's Mail app. Using a combination of smart folders and mail rules, my emails are already sorted or culled; by the time I look at them. These two things also make spam much easier to identify. Apple's Mail app is one of the better mail apps out there.

    Thanks Gary. I have expanded my understanding of ‘Smart Folders’:
    There is nothing actually in a Smart Folder, it’s a list of files that meet a description.

    Hi Gary. Great graphics to assist your explanation - very clear. One thing I now realise is that items are ‘removed’ from albums and playlists but ‘deleted’ from smart albums and smart playlists. That’s not semantics but an actual difference in the resulting action. Keep up the good work, mate 👍

    I have not used the Smart Folders for one reason is because I thought I would have thins all over the place and would start to lose some stuff. Thank you so much for explain this so it easy to understand. Need to rename it to “Easy Find”. Thank you.

    Thanks Gary, clarified a lot for me. Hopefully in the future you could compare Smart folder and Labels, and when/where you would use each.

    Do you have the best tutorials I swear. I never even knew there was such a thing as a smart folder. I’m so excited to go try these on my Mac tomorrow. I have a MacBook Pro with the M1 chip. The Macbook Pro prior to that I got 10 years out of although I will say the last year was really bad and hard. Anyway, I just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for doing them. It’s a huge help.

    Hi Gary: Is there a way to sync or backup your smart folders, playlists, albums, and ESPECIALLY your smart mailboxes in case you buy a new Mac?
    Is there a way to use them in iOS/iPad OS also?
    Love your work and thanks in advance.

    Hi Gary, thanks for this great info! I have been using smart folders for a long time but never knew all the nuances. How do you delete a smart folder?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      From the left sidebar, or from a location in the Finder? From the Sidebar just Control+click and select Remove. From the Finder, just drag the Smart Folder to the trash like anything else.

  • @philiprand3720
    @philiprand3720 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Now tried it. I asked Finder for an item and Finder created the smart folder, but there was no indication of where you put your search criteria, except a phrase in the little magnifying glass. I also looked in finder under pictures and looked for a smart album, but there was no such a heading available.

    Is it possible to convert an existing regular folder into a smart folder?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I suppose you could create a Smart Folder that searches for everything (like files created after 1970) in that same folder. But it would show all files in subfolders as well.

    Hey Gary, speaking of albums, I would create photo albums on my iPhone, but when I upload the photos onto my Mac, the albums are not also uploaded, and I would lose all the sorting and grouping of the photos I did on my iPhone. Is there a way for the photo albums created on my iPhone to also be imported to my Mac? Thank you for the great video as always.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Use iCloud Photos.

    • @hathawayamato

      @@macmost Thank you. When I do use iCloud photos, is there no need to import photos by plugging in my iPhone anymore as it is done through the cloud? If I do import photos by plugging in my phone, will the photos be duplicated?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hathawayamato Right. You don't need to plug in your iPhone to your Mac and "import" anymore. If you do it, you will get duplicates, though you will get warned about it.

    It almost seems that a Smart Folder is like an Alias folder but with search functionality.
