Omg I didn’t know you have a TH-cam channel! I’ve been buying Bronner soaps for a while now. Idk if you’ve ever talked about it BUT the Castile soap is amazing at cleaning makeup brushes and beauty blender sponges. There are DIY makeup brushes cleaners that use harsh degreaser dish soap mixed with olive oil but Bronners Castile soap takes the place of both those things.
Ha! And yes! I used the Almond Castile just this morning to clean my pressed powder brush. I'm here, and also on Facebook (@GreenwithLisaBronner) and have a blog, LisaBronner.com. Come say hello!
I use their bar and liquid soap now. I notice that the liquid soap, when used as a shampoo is soft and my hair does not break anymore. I have been recommending it to people. Not to mention that, as a vegan, I should stick to plant-based products.
Hey Lisa! I know this sounds like a really, really silly question (because you have liquid castile soap) but, can you liquify the bar soap and use it in a foaming dispenser? Thank you!
Hi Kerrie- I get it! On its own, the bar soap makes a great hand soap. If you're keen on a foaming pump dispenser. I would try a 1:1 ratio of the soap cream to water. I haven't tried this though, so if you do, I'd love to know how it works for you!
Hi, watching from NC, after this "LIVE," show happened a day ago, sorry I missed it. Being able to afford your products and adjusting my families lifestyles with all these products have helped better our health. Therefore, this helps our planet/environment out better than what products we were buying, using and living with before. Question, what specific bar soap do you use for your household, when making the "all-purpose sanitizer spray," that is used around your kids and pets? Asking because some scents aren't recommended for pets and kids to be around?
I'm doing a lot of research on how to use it and which is better, i'm glad I found your page and web page, I joined the news letter. I hope I can buy some soon. Thanks for the great information.
Hi I’ve been trying to use the liquid Castille and my dishes continue coming out greasy and it’s very frustrating… any tips? I’ve also added sissy wash to my solution to try to cut the grease but it’s still not working. Not sure if I should stick with the greasy dishes? Add more Castile? Washing soda? Add an extra step and rinse the dishes with vinegar? Just struggling here lol
Hi Alicia- The film on the dishes is from the soap's reaction with hard water. There are a couple of options for you. One is to switch to our Sal Suds Cleaner, which is a mild detergent and detergents don't react with minerals. To stay with the soap, this seems to happen less if instead of using a sink of soapy water, just use a dish brush with soap on it. Another trick is to use a vinegar rinse. After you've rinsed the soap off, dip the dishes in water with a cup of vinegar. Lastly, hand drying dishes will also help eliminate the mineral deposit.
Of all the products I've used in my life the one constant aside from water is Dr. Bronner's soap. A curious thing has happened in the last 2-3 years here in Japan though. The price has gone through the roof and the bottles have gotten smaller. Is there an explanation for this?
Hi there! Thanks for your support of Dr. Bronner’s over the years! It’s great to hear my family’s products work so well for you. Several years ago we began working with local Japanese company to make our products more accessible throughout Japan. In that process, prices were increased and more recently, global supply issues, as well as increased costs of raw ingredients, packaging and shipping have had an effect on product pricing for many manufacturers, including Dr. Bronner’s. Great question! Always opt for durable tools over cute, and choose tools that are cleanable and reusable. I head to the industrial cleaning section of home improvement stores to buy heavy duty brushes. I opt for microfiber cloths that are endlessly washable and reusable (or at least longer than the 10+ years I've been washing and reusing mine!) I look for mopheads that can be washed in a washer.
We're using the lavender liquid for body soap and it's making our skin very dry. Is this normal, will it go away or is there something we're doing wrong?
I enjoy mine with a nice exfoliating body cloth in the shower before bed. It’s very soothing to me doesn’t dry my skin out. Don’t worry about it if you haven’t had any reactions. I used to only just use bar soap. Now I’m using bar soap to wash my armpits down there and sweaty areas. And to treat myself I’ll use dr bronners It’s my routine now before bed whenever I feel like it. Dermatologists don’t recommend this for dry sensitive skin, or eczema. Essential oils can cause bad reactions etc and coconut oil and dry skin out. I love it though. Used my lavender one, now trying almond scent next. Use it sparingly
Hi what advice would you give for using the bar soap on the hair if I don’t like ACV smell post rinsing? I realized that my hair gets extremely flaky if I don’t use any acidic rinse.
Hi there- When using soap to wash hair, the key is to follow up with an acidic rinse. The soap has an alkaline pH which makes our hair kind of tacky/sticky feeling. The acidic rinse smooths everything down. I find the ACV smell (I dilute by half with water) dissipates after washing, but another option is Dr. Bronner’s Organic Citrus Hair Rinse. For my long hair, I dilute a capful in 1 cup of water and then pour it over my head and work it through and rinse thoroughly. Use less if your hair is shorter. I occasionally use lemon juice, filtered to remove all pulp, at a dilution 1/3 cup in 2/3 cup water. Lemon juice is not shelf stable though and needs to be kept in the fridge. When switching from conventional shampoo to soap, give your hair about 2 weeks to adjust. If you're interested in more tips, check out this article on my website, bit.ly/ShampooToSoap.
Hi Connie- Unfortunately, we don’t recommend our soaps for colored hair. The alkalinity of the soap opens up the hair follicles, where the color resides. The color will drain out and fade quickly. Colored hair needs acidic products only and soap, by nature, cannot be acidic. Only detergents (shampoo) can be alkaline. The Environmental Working Group (ewg.org) is a great resource for finding safer products for hair care, body care, and cleaning.
Hi Salina- We have had a similar thought, but at this point we figured it would really confuse long time customers if we switched them! My grandfather launched his scents one at a time, the almond was his second scent in 1975, then the eucalyptus in 1978. I don't know why he colored them like he did, but I think they're pretty set!
@@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner I am grateful to hear the history. Almond has been my favorite, then Rose Hemp, after Peppermint baths throughout my childhood. Boyfriends have thanked me for sharing Dr. Bronner's with them! I love that you do not COLOR your sacred gifts to humanity, and leave them as Dr. B made them, just perfect. But, I do get the suggestion. If it could be brown and green, originally, then that would have been fine, and most likely done.
Hi there- I'm not familiar enough with Kirk's soaps to give an educated answer. But, we hear from many of our Dr. Bronner's customers that our Unscented Castile Soaps and Unscented Organic Sugar Soaps can be helpful with eczema and other skin sensitivities. In fact, the Unscented Castile Soap was first requested from us by the UCLA Medical Center Maternity Ward for use on their newborns. It is designed for baby’s delicate skin, which makes it helpful for sensitive skin of any age.
Hi Charmaine- Yes, you sure can! I've found the best method to be to rub a dishcloth or brush on the bar soap then tackle dishes. Another option is to add 2 Tbsp. grated bar soap into a sink filled with very warm water, then swish to dissolve. Soaps work by grabbing onto oils and grime and rinsing them away, so if you find your dishes are oily, try using a bit more soap.
Hi Lynnetta- You sure can, although the bar soap works best in hot and warm water for this use. I also don't recommended it for HE (high efficiency) machines which use less water than standard machines. Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castile or Sal Suds both work excellently in cold water and HE machines. In a food processor, combine one grated bar of soap with 4 c. (960 mL) baking soda. Pulse to blend. Use ¼ - ⅓ c. (60-80 mL) per large load. Add 1 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle to keep fabrics soft and absorbent. Hop on over to this post on my website for more on using Bar Soap around the house, www.lisabronner.com/bar-soap-dilutions-cheat-sheet/.
Hi Sara- Irritation to the eyes is caused primarily from a difference in pH between our eyes and the soap. Our eyes are sensitive to anything that isn’t near neutral pH. Neutral pH is not possible without synthetic ingredients. Because our soaps contain no synthetic ingredients, we cannot make a tear-free formula. Castile Soap is safe for sensitive areas. I use the Castile head to toe, but on more sensitive areas, you need a lot less.
Hi there! It's difficult to offer a timeframe since everyone uses soap differently. But, like our liquid soap, it is concentrated and lasts quite a while. Check out this article on my website that dives into the differences between our Liquid and Bar Castile Soaps: www.lisabronner.com/liquid-vs-bar-in-dr-bronners-pure-castile-soap/
Hi Chayenne- I'm sorry, this video was originally a Facebook Live event. This is an edited video and the giveaway is over. If you're on Facebook, I have giveaways there from time to time (@greenwithlisabronner), and the Dr. Bronner's team does so on both Facebook and Instagram (@drbronner).
Hi Zerah- Glycerin is a natural byproduct of the soapmaking reaction. During the production of soap, oil molecules are turned into soap molecules, and glycerin, a component of oil, is left free-floating. At Dr. Bronner’s, we leave the glycerin in the bar as it contributes to the smooth after-feel of our soap. Other brands may add extra glycerin to their soaps. While a certain amount of glycerin is beneficial, glycerin absorbs water, and an excessive amount of glycerin can cause bar soap to expand and crack. Our bar soaps contain just the right amount of glycerin to give the benefit of smoothness to the skin while still leaving the bar intact over the course of its usage.
Hi GE- I'm sorry to hear that our Castile Soap didn't work for you. The key to using a true soap to wash hair is to use an acidic rinse - either diluted apple cider vinegar or the Dr. Bronner’s Citrus Hair Rinse. While conventional shampoos are acidic, a true soap like the Castile has an alkaline pH which makes our hair kind of tacky/sticky feeling. The acidic rinse smooths everything down. There are two options for an acidic rinse. For my long, thicker hair, I use about 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar (ACV) diluted with another 1/2 cup of water. Or, I dilute a capful of Dr. Bronner’s Organic Citrus Hair Rinse in 1 cup of water and then pour it over my head and work it through and rinse thoroughly. Use less of either dilution if your hair is shorter. During the couple weeks of transition, especially if you’re coming from a conventional shampoo/conditioner regimen, you may need to use another crème conditioner after the rinse. It does take hair about 2 weeks to adjust to a new regimen. For more on washing hair with Castile Soap, check out this article on my website: bit.ly/ShampooToSoap
Hi Maggie- I'm sorry about that! This was a learning experience for me and I'll use a different microphone set up in the future. The many ways to use our Castile Bar Soap, is also covered in my usage cheat sheet over on my website at bit.ly/BarDilutions.
Hi ANGK- Combine 1 grated bar of soap with 4 cups baking soda and use 1/4-1/3 cup per large load. Or, make the Soap Cream from the video and use 1/2 cup plus 1/2 cup baking soda. With either method, add 1 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle. The bar soap needs warm or hot water to dissolve, and is not recommended for HE machines.
@@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner Wouldn't it be easier to use the liquid Dr. Bronners? I have HE machines. Also, can the bar be used to rub on spots prior to washing, or should I use the liquid for that?
@@angk2115 Some of our customers prefer to use the bar soap for house cleaning, even thought it requires a few extra steps to do so, as a way of using plastic bottles. An HE machine uses less water than a standard machine and so we recommend the liquid soaps for laundry. The bar soap can be rubbed directly on spots, but I find the liquid to be slightly more effective for pre-treating stains.
My favorite product is the Sal Suds, I use it for all of my cleaning duties.

Bad audio- - use a room with less echo.
Yep, I've gotten a mic I'll use in the future.
Hi
I used it on my hair to clean & remove waxy product built up,but it DID NOT WORK.😢 So disappointing.

How do you use a bar for laundry?
@@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner Thank you!
