Features I like about this radio:
FM reception is out of this world!
Easy to read LCD Display.
Weather Band Reception is above average.
Weather Alert Mode.
FM Stereo with headphones.
AM band performs well during the evening and daytime hours and responds well with a passive loop.
Clock is displayed under the Frequency! They got it right :)
3" Speaker sounds good on all the bands.
Quick preset access on top of the radio.
No rubber molding!
Normal, plastic buttons, not rubber/silicone buttons.
Uses AA batteries.
Includes AC adapter.
Dual Alarm feature.
FM tunes 50, 100, or 200kHz stepping.
AM, 9 or 10kHz stepping.
Seek tuning on the tuning wheel.
Twenty Presets each for AM and FM.
Features that could be added or improved on:
AM AGC circuit. Seems to soft mute at night, and cause clicking during the day on faint stations.
A proper handle of some type.
A lock switch.
Overall, I am very happy with the FM performance of this radio. It will be added to my FM DX project that I run during the Summer months. The supplied AC adapter makes that easy to setup. The AM band is very sensitive, and needs just a little tweaking to make it perfect. A beautiful display, easy to tune, it is very easy to recommend this radio to anyone looking for a quality, table top portable.

This radio would be good for using outside for work or camping if runs on batteries. Excellent video, really enjoyed it.

If your looking for another good sangean radio model I would recommend the cl100. I own 2 of them and they are amazing. Am/Fm and weather band/alert.

I like the clicky tuning knob and it looks durable.

Todd, which radio have better FM reception? Sangean PR-D15 or Sangean PR-D12?
D12 is the best Sangean I have tested to date. The HDR-16 is a close second. The D19, then the D15. All great receivers.
I can get KOA from Denver clear in Nashville, TN.
Hi Todd, thanks for your reviews, I really enjoy them. So, more than a year on, do you still use this radio? What do you think of it now? And how would you compare it to the pr-d4w?
The PR-D4W trumps this on AM, while this radio excels on FM, one of the best I have tested.

Great review - thank you. How would you compare the PR-D12 to the PR-D4W from a speaker sound and also a tuning view point?
Speaker audio is similar, the D4W has a bit more punch. Tuning the D4W on MW is great. It also has Bandwidth options. FM on the D12 is superior though, by a nice margin.
@@todderbert It appears that bandwidth options would have been useful for the MW on this radio. Still, the FM performance alone might be worth the price of admission. Thank you for the review! This one definitely flew under the radar.

I really want to keep this radio. Your review is right on the mark but I'm not sure what you mean by soft muting. On MW, If I am tuning through strong signals at a comfortable volume level of 6, I easily pass by weak stations unless I boost the volume level to 12 to 15, but then the next strong station comes booming in too loud. In the old days this was a sign of poor automatic gain control, AGC. None of my other have dozen Sangean radios behave this way. Anyone else have this problem?
It may be an AGC issue. I use mine on FM only atm.
Hi, is this radio as selective as the D4W on FM? The D4W has the 40khz filter on FM which gives razor sharp selectivity. Can this radio match that? Thanks.
I have this radio, this radio performs like a car radio receiver while walking outside.
What a brick of a little radio! Yeah they need to put a handle on this lil monster.
Yeah they do, it flops around my hands like a wet fish :) it doesn't even have a lockout mode so I end up turning it on while I'm juggling it.

Yes.
EVERY radio should receive NOAA frequencies. But I guess they don't have NOAA in Japan or China.
NOAA just in US and Canada i think, the rest of the world don't have it.

Todderbert, do you have a list of radios where you think they have no areas that need improvement? Or a ranked list of best radios under $150, $100, $50?
May be something I venture into the future. But there are so many different options out there. My go to radios of choice has been the C.Crane line. Eton with it's Elite Field and Executive radios, as well as Sangean and their fine quality. I have had great luck with those three brands. Sangean does make the CC Radio 3 for C.Crane :) Sony is in the mix, but they are not producing much of late.
