I just came across this version of Kate's song. It's 2:15 am and couldn't sleep. So far I didn't like any of the remakes of Kate's song. However, this come close to the original. I still love Kate's performance because it's hard to improve on perfection. However, this version was well done. 👌 i

I have been a Kate Bush fan ever since I saw her for the 1st time on "Saturday Night Live". She sung "Them Heavy People" and later in the show sang " The Man With The Child In His Eyes" LIVE. I bought the "Kick Inside" LP the next day and just loved everything she did. That being said... Hayley is a very good singer, I see this as a very nice cover. The musicians on this were spot on, and have a really nice sound. I certainly can not hit those notes, so bravo to all who try it. Music is what it is to YOU.

My favorite version is Pat Benatar's. Yes, I know Kate Bush wrote it and recorded it first. I just find her version a little to shrill. Hayley managed to reduce some of the shrillness of the ridiculously high key. I just think it sounds better in a lower key.

A very good cover version of the Kate Bush classic. The vocals are apparently "pitch perfect" too! However, Kaley's version doesn't come close to making the listener feel as if they are hearing the voice of the Ghost of Cathy.

It would have been better if camera caught the singer trying to get in the window from the inside of the house not from the outside...this song was meant to convey feelings of love, tragedy, and otherwordliness. I first heard this song in 1978 when Kate Bush appeared on television in Canada. Having read Wuthering Heights four times, it had become my favourite book. I absolutely loved the dark story, and couldn't believe how Kate had captured the wildness, the obsession, the desperation, the overly consuming love story between Cathy and Heathcliff in her song. Her appearance, her dancing, her arm movements, but mostly the ethereal sound of her voice and the lyrics just drew me in. I became a huge Kate Bush fan and bought all her albums. She is an enormous talent, and there is no one like her. However, I will say that Hayley's vocals on this song are top notch, really very beautiful, but I am always going to favour Kate Bush's version.
I agree with you in terms of recreating Cathy in a song. Her voice and image must be ethereal, but there is an aspect which is also valid: The seductive aspect of death. There was a great passion between Cathy and Heathcilff. You find seduction in this version which recalls that tremendous passion between the main charaters of Emily Brontë's novel. In the original song Kate Bush recreates Cathy exactly as she appears in the novel: Ethereal, beyond this world. As to the vocals, perfect tones: Hayley Westenra treats each note with a great respect. This is the ideal song for a soprano ligera. Other versions are not esoterical (image) or correct (high-pitched tones.)

I found it very special that Emily Bronte and Kate Bush share the same birthday (July 30th) and that Kate was only 18 when she wrote "Wuthering Heights', the approximate age of Cathy's death in the novel. However, Kate was only 13 when she wrote 'The Man with the Child in His Eyes ' which I find astonishing. She is such an incredible and unique talent.
Well, anyone would do a better job than Juliet Binnoche. The best Cathy I’ve ever seen was a girl called Alex Whitworth at the Attic Theatre in Stratford upon Avon. She really made me understand the character after not getting her for five years after reading the book!
Why are people always criticising covers? If Hayley Westenra wants to sing Wuthering Heights, that's because she is an admirer of Kate Bush, just like the majority of people who is watching the video. Of course the original has a very particular environment, and magic, that no one can surpass, but that doesn't make this one is bad. Both are just different interpretations.

This version only exists because of the original... If you've read the book, you know that Kate Bush's performance is extremely accurate, both in voice and in the video. This one is good too, but it doesn't portray how dark and disturbing the story actually is.
Personally I think this version of the song suits the story more. Hayley's voice sounds more haunting, like her ghost is really calling to Heathcliff from beyond the grave...

Kate bushes moves and voice suits Catherine perfect, as she said her self (cathy) the angels send her back from heaven to the top of wuthering heights' heath. Thats obviously why kate is on a heath. Cause she wants to go back to Heathcliff and her home, but she can't make herself. So she ends up at the heath in front of the window, afraid of Heathcliff but at the same time full of longing for seing him. Maybe i misunderstood the book cause im only 13 and if im wrong then make me understand it! (Im danish so if this text is unintelligible/unreadable that is the reason)

I absolutely loved the dark story, and couldn't believe how Kate had captured the wildness, the obsession, the desperation, the overly consuming love story between Cathy and Heathcliff in her song. Her appearance, her dancing, her arm movements, but mostly the ethereal sound of her voice and the lyrics just drew me in. I became a huge Kate Bush fan and bought all her albums. She is an enormous talent, and there is no one like her. However, I will say that Hayley's vocals on this song are top notch, really very beautiful, but I am always going to favour Kate Bush's version.
I agree with you in terms of recreating Cathy in a song. Her voice and image must be ethereal, but there is an aspect which is also valid: The seductive aspect of death. There was a great passion between Cathy and Heathcilff. You find seduction in this version which recalls that tremendous passion between the main charaters of Emily Brontë's novel. In the original song Kate Bush recreates Cathy exactly as she appears in the novel: Ethereal, beyond this world. As to the vocals, perfect tones: Hayley Westenra treats each note with a great respect. This is the ideal song for a soprano ligera. Other versions are not esoterical (image) or correct (high-pitched tones.)

I found it very special that Emily Bronte and Kate Bush share the same birthday (July 30th) and that Kate was only 18 when she wrote "Wuthering Heights', the approximate age of Cathy's death in the novel. However, Kate was only 13 when she wrote 'The Man with the Child in His Eyes ' which I find astonishing. She is such an incredible and unique talent.
Actually, she would be quite perfect for Cathy's role!!!
Well, anyone would do a better job than Juliet Binnoche. The best Cathy I’ve ever seen was a girl called Alex Whitworth at the Attic Theatre in Stratford upon Avon. She really made me understand the character after not getting her for five years after reading the book!

Why are people always criticising covers? If Hayley Westenra wants to sing Wuthering Heights, that's because she is an admirer of Kate Bush, just like the majority of people who is watching the video. Of course the original has a very particular environment, and magic, that no one can surpass, but that doesn't make this one is bad. Both are just different interpretations.

I've found this version today, it's unbelievable. So much better than original and it's inspired me to read the book after almost 30 years once again.
This version only exists because of the original... If you've read the book, you know that Kate Bush's performance is extremely accurate, both in voice and in the video. This one is good too, but it doesn't portray how dark and disturbing the story actually is.
A lot of girls must wish they were were Kate Bush/Emily Bronte/Cathy?

@@Duelingking No, (s)he is totally wrong. Kate Bush performs and sings the song as it should be singed! Kate bushes moves and voice suits Catherine perfect, as she said her self (cathy) the angels send her back from heaven to the top of wuthering heights' heath. Thats obviously why kate is on a heath. Cause she wants to go back to Heathcliff and her home, but she can't make herself. So she ends up at the heath in front of the window, afraid of Heathcliff but at the same time full of longing for seing him. Maybe i misunderstood the book cause im only 13 and if im wrong then make me understand it! (Im danish so if this text is unintelligible/unreadable that is the reason)
