As a brazilian, i'm learning Indonesian at an alarming speed, and i don't feel like our portuguese is a level one language.
Even more considering that just going from region of brazil to another, it could mean you stop understanding EVERY SINGLE SLANG they use.
Oh, cute, a "Tangerina". Is it "Tangerina" everywhere? NO.
As a brazilian it irritates me so much that i love it.

Portuguese is fairly easy, specially the Brazilian variation with all its accents, mostly because Brazil is gigantic and you can find material everywhere from courses, music, series, movies, books and so on, also it is estimated around 4.4 million Brazilians living abroad being 1.9 million in the US alone, so it is easier to cross paths with one of us .
It’s also easier to pickup Spanish faster after learning Portuguese than the other way around.

Well all this is very nice but it's all explained in brazilian portuguese. For a portuguese person brazilian portuguese is 'so similiar' that we say one is speaking brazilian. That's how different it is. Many brazilians even have a pretty hard time trying to understand portuguese people speaking.
