@@ruffendtv1320 OK KD was a free agent, so what are we talking about? They just didn’t want to pay him what he wanted but he could have stayed and had them build a team around him.
Shout out McCants for sticking to the context of Shaq’s statement. They are arguing two different points. In this case McCants is arguing the point that matters (Shaq’s point)
I’m a Shaq fan and I’m still traumatized by Shaqs move.. I totally understand why Cleveland hated LeBron for leaving.. Miami Loved him for coming and Boston and Lakers Fans hated him for making it a little easier for himself when competing against their Dynasty 🤷🏾♂️.. I still a fan of Shaq, it’s life
Ray Allen was a role player by the point he went to Miami and was coming off the bench for half the games in his last season with Boston. He was getting pretty openly shopped around and disrespected by the Celtics organization. He said "if y'all don't want me, I'm gonna go somewhere that does". A completely different situation than KD joining the Warriors.
People never watched Ray in Milwaukee for some reason. Dude was way more than just a shooter in his prime which he was past when he went to Boston, nevermind Miami.
Ray Was still a strong starter on majority NBA teams even at 36. And he played 6th man for Miami even ran some point guard duty for a bit when they had injuries.
Shaq actually said that the reason he left Orlando was because of this: He was sitting at home one day when ESPN came on stating that Zo had gotten a $100M deal from Maimi. He then stated that he told Orlando that he should get paid more than Zo because he was better. Orlando didn't meet his request and that was when the Lakers came calling. Point is he only left Orlando because he wanted to get paid more than Zo. He was not seeking a SUPER TEAM.
Rashad is making no point. There's person A and person B who did the exact same thing. He takes the side of person A and penalizes person B. Barkley hopped around trying to win, Rashad covers for him. Shaq did it, Rashad covers for him. But when LeBron left the Cavs who he had 60 wins with just like Shaq had 60 wins in Orlando to go play for a better organization, Rashad penalizes LeBron. Shaq has played with prime Penny, Kobe, Wade, Nash & Stoudemire in Phoenix, LeBron, that Celtics squad with Rondo, Allen, Paul & KG. That's Shaq's entire career. 0 dead spots as far as to tier talent around him. The only great player he DIDNT play with was Jordan lol. It just doesn't sit right coming from him. If Hakeem said that, then everyone would have to be quiet because Hakeem won where he was drafted and MJ himself said he's glad he avoided Hakeem on the big stage. But for Barkley & Shaq to come at any player for wanting to play with other good players is so funny.
@@jacobsworld9253Not the exact same thing. In fact it's not even close. Barkley was unhappy in Philly and got traded. He wanted to go to Portland but they didn't pull off the trade. He had one last legitimate gasp when the Rockets traded for him to team up with also past their primes Olajuwon and Drexler but he was physically breaking down and despite adding Pippen after the Bulls broke up they still never reached the Finals. Shaq was a free agent and was trying to establish himself in the acting/rap game. He chased money not rings. When he joined LA, Kobe was an unknown commodity. Eventually, Kobe wanted to be the alpha and the Lakers chose to send an aging but still potent Shaq to Miami to pair with a promising rookie in Wade. Wade had only one year under his belt before Shaq joined the Heat he wasn't a mega star. The rest of his stints? Sure you could say he chased rings but when washed up former greats do that it is acceptable because they are no longer in their prime and are no longer capable of carrying a team. Even if they win, they won't get the lions share of credit. When LeBron and Bosh joined Wade in Miami they CHOSE to team up. They did so early in their primes. They controlled their destiny. Barkley chose to be traded and had little choice where he ended up. Shaq chased money, he never colluded with other players to team up in LA or Miami. Same for Durant, he CHOSE to team up with Steph and Klay. LeBron and KD will always be known as ring chasers and they made that choice knowing the optics. They took the easy road. No need to defend them.
If anyone remembers Orlando didn’t wanna pay him , they put that post out in the news paper is Shaq worth 100m and Alonzo ( no disrespect because he was a savage ) had just got 130m and he felt disrespected and actually went to a team LA at the time to return them to prominence. He went to Miami from LA who was not near as good as the Lakers that he left , every time Shaq left in the prime of his career he went to a weaker team and made them contenders now at the end of his career he chased a 5th chip . I’d love to see the debate with O’Neal on the show it’d be dope af .
Absolutely. The Lakers were far from a superteam. Only way this would make any sense is if Shaq joined the Sonics, maybe Spurs or Jazz. He would've stayed with the Magic, but they refused to pay him any reasonable money. And what is this nonsense Bulls argument? KD didn't join the Cavs. LeBron and Bosh didn't team up with Wade the year after he won the championship. And then Gil himself even points out that the Magic had 60 wins, they were even a better team than the Lakers. And then he goes on and tells lies about Barkley, he had 20pts in his second season with the 76ers, second most after Malone and played more minutes than Malone and Dr.J. Also the 76ers didn't make it to the conference finals. Gil just knows nothing, makes up stuff and screams.

Players have more leverage now compared before. I dont think its morals. It's a biased take. Teams have way bigger salary cap and are more capable to sign multiple superstars. Now it's more about which teams are willing to pay more and which team have capable management that will result to winning. "Morals" mans had his first starting 5 full of hall of famer. stop it
@@aaronpasco1645 Morals mans went to the Lakers in 96-97 with not one superstar besides himself on the roster. Kobe blossomed into a Superstar eventually, but Shaq didn't sign to a team with a player who was already an "established" superstar. Outside of Shaq and Kobe those Lakers teams had a bunch of solid role players who knew how to play their part, and hit some big shots when they counted most. Say what you want about the later years of his career where he himself was essentially a role player with the Cavs, Suns, and Celtics, but his Lakers years weren't spent gathering teams of "Super friends" to shift the competitive advantage in their favor. Lakers management at that time had a storied history of winning as a franchise, so why not go there? Especially with everything that LA (the city) had to offer at the time? In my opinion Salary cap and player leverage are a different conversation, and present a hypothetical scenario that I can't speak on.

Shaq is saying that was a more respectable decision than if he would have signed with Utah who had Stockton and Malone, or the Bulls when they had Jordan and Pippen.

@@christiancrews4278 that's not the point of the argument. People are expounding this to argue a narrative. At the end of the day the truth of the matter was it was frown upon, looked down on, generally not permitted to leave a team to join another team with a top tier player (top 10-15). Nowadays it's a lot more acceptable to not only join or create a super team but it's actually a lot more feasible for it to happen. Now we can distract and say things like well you can even do it back in the day because of salary caps and this on the other which is true but the point is if Shaq went and played with Jordan purely because he's the goat and it would help him win a championship as well he would have looked super weak and would not have the respect of his peers. Now don't get me wrong that's not saying putting yourself in a good situation is bad. But there's always been an Unwritten code of what you can do and what you can't do and joining a well-performing team is in the acceptable range. Gil ain’t lyin’. Diesel was the epitome of a prima-donna. He wanted to be a movie star and entertainer instead of being the greatest baller to ever walk the earth.
Boston did not call Ray Allen. But Kevin Durant was the number one player on his team, he wasn't going to worry about if the OKC was going to be calling him. He was the franchise player and he made the decision to go to another team. I understand that he wanted a ring but the comparison is not the same.
Reason #1 for Diesels leaving actually. But was never mentioned here. The bidding war revolving around Shaq & Alonzo played into LA's hands. Shaq wanted the highest contract in NBA. The Magic hesitated LA did not. It all probably was a genius ploy by PRiley to conquer the East Coast. And it worked. Two. There was a riff between Shaq and Penny. They've both admitted it. It was mostly immature petty stuff but there was beef enough to question Shaq staying. Orlando also did a vote in their paper whether Shaq should get paid to stay. It was a resounding NO. Three. Shaq and his agent had their eyes on LA since Day 1. Shaq wanted to be in movies & music. It's a big market. A historic franchise down on its luck with no big man but a history of historic big men. Mikan. Wilt. Kareem. The money was just an added bonus. Running from MJ was not one of the reasons lmaooo.

Shaq didn’t leave Orlando over Gil’s theory of 60 games, Shaq left because Orlando went to the finals in 95 and took a step back by losing in the conference finals in 96.

Exactly. That's why he left.
Yeah that's what I thought too. Magic didn't wanna give him 100 million like Jerry West did
They couldn't pay him AND penny. And he was jealous of penny. It hurt his ego. He admitted in that interview with Penny.
They even took a poll with the people of Orlando asking if Shaq was worth 100 mil and the majority said no. It was in the newspaper out there.

I still a fan of Shaq, it’s life
Nah Gil is just special needs… and Kenyon Martin letting them talk he can give an first hand examples but he’s too busy pretending to be young
Man he be cookin Gil be trying to change stuff to be right
This time I agree with McCant
Ray Allen was a role player by the point he went to Miami and was coming off the bench for half the games in his last season with Boston. He was getting pretty openly shopped around and disrespected by the Celtics organization. He said "if y'all don't want me, I'm gonna go somewhere that does".
A completely different situation than KD joining the Warriors.
Great explanation. They dont be aware of details smh
People never watched Ray in Milwaukee for some reason. Dude was way more than just a shooter in his prime which he was past when he went to Boston, nevermind Miami.
FACTSSSSSSS Avery Bradley was starting
If Ray Allen went anywhere else but Miami it wouldn’t be a problem.. if KD signed with the Celtics instead of GST it wouldn’t be talked about
Ray Was still a strong starter on majority NBA teams even at 36.

Exactly
That don't make it better, plus shaq was like a hoe looking for a pimp end of his career!!
yall know yall fucked up when Rashad is the only one making the actual point.
But for Barkley & Shaq to come at any player for wanting to play with other good players is so funny.
shut up@@jacobsworld9253
Facts lol

He went to Miami from LA who was not near as good as the Lakers that he left , every time Shaq left in the prime of his career he went to a weaker team and made them contenders now at the end of his career he chased a 5th chip . I’d love to see the debate with O’Neal on the show it’d be dope af .

It's just annoying because you have players like Allen Iverson who would never benefit from something like this, and it permanently affects their Legacies. Which is why I personally think when talking about the greatest players Rings need to be considered with a grain of salt.
@@christiancrews4278yea that was a dumbbb argument u tried to make 😂😂😂😂
They don’t get it, when Shaq stats and numbers were elite, he wasn’t demanding trades to teams where other elite players were playing. When Shaq got old and was riddled with injuries, he started joining other elite players but he was no longer elite not even managing to put up half the stats he use to putting up. KD in his prime joining the championship favorites is far different, it was a forgone conclusion. Before Shaq got to the Heat and Lakers, they weren’t the favorites to win it all.
Gil SUPER WRONG ITS ALMOST AS IF HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION LOL
Gil is absolutely correct Shaq didn’t resign had the best team in the east prior to that he knew exactly what he was going goin to LA
Definitely didn’t understand the question..charging his phone was more important
Nah he's super annoying bruh
Shaq left Orlando for 2 reasons
1) Mike was back and Shaq didn’t want that smoke
2) Penny was more popular and Shaq and he couldn’t stand being #2
@@baldblade4852 No you're wrong he left because they don't wan to pay him and Alonzo morning had just got that new big contract and they don't wanna match it and the lakers did it Go research

Bosh love and Kyrie were not the best
Once again I appreciate you, McCants. Gil keep playin crazy like he didn’t hear what Shaq said.
Shaq left because Orlando did not want to match the Lakers offer. The thing is about Gil is when the players are on the platform he doesn't keep this same energy 😂
I would hate arguing with Gil, he knows he wrong but he moves the goal post to help his argument be more wrong.

Gil is actually right but Rashad is keeping it relevant to Shaq statement. People love creating facts out of opinions. Back in the 90’s it was damn near impossible to have two max players so it’s easy to say I didn’t leave my castle
That's the actual truth
But Gil is saying his castle was Orlando. Why did he leave? Why couldn't he we there HE was there. Shaq is saying the opposite of what he did. He finished 2nd to the Goat in the East. Had an up and coming guard in Penny a good shooter just needed more defensive help really they just needed to stay together and get older smarter. He left and went to a 60 win team.

It’s crazy gil implying shaq ran from Jordan…as long as Jordan in the league you can’t run from him he in the finals every year at that point
One of the rare times I agree with Rashad. Gil is ASSUMING shaq didn't go to spurs or jazz for this reason or that, but according to shaq himself it was the money he felt he deserved as the talent he is since he felt he should've got more than Alonzo's huge contract and Julius Irving's words of encouragement (Dr. J was shaq's childhood hero)..
The point Shaq is making is regarding the prime years of a players career. Most "superteams" back then were old super stars attempting to win a ring before calling it quits.

Boston did not call Ray Allen. But Kevin Durant was the number one player on his team, he wasn't going to worry about if the OKC was going to be calling him. He was the franchise player and he made the decision to go to another team. I understand that he wanted a ring but the comparison is not the same.
This podcast is very entertaining. Gilbert always moves the goalpost until his arguments makes it through the uprights. 😂
Your really lost on this conversation
@@DOL-yd2jw Evidently you is
Wasn’t it recorded that Shaq wanted more than Alonzo and LA happy complied?
Gil is the perfect example of the loudest person in the room is always the weakest
I hate this statement because its 50/50 cuz sometimes the loudest person in the room has the best point and most accomplishments. This statement is a stigma that only reads true situationally
True
We're talking about this podcast. And this group. And gil is loud and wrong. Shaq left for LA because it's a bigger market. Especially with his movies coming out and rap albums. He just put MJ out the year before. Gil, needs to relax. 🙄 He was an Orlando Magic fan. I'm cracking up.
@@piffjackson6010 you must be the loudest person in the room type
Shaq didn’t leave Orlando over Gil’s theory of 60 games, Shaq left because Orlando went to the finals in 95 and took a step back by losing in the conference finals in 96.
All those players were out of their primes before they left to ring chase.

Imagine Jordan joining the Celtics, Pistons or Knicks in his prime before winning in Chicago. Or better yet had he played with Magic in LA.
Jordan had a better team that shit just sound good nobody wanted Jordan until he won & you couldn’t do that back in the day
He literally couldn’t go if he wanted to. When the opportunity came along he was already winning so why would he?
@@jerrodgarland2604dude Jordan team sucked in the 80s he was the only Allstar wat are u talking bout he had a better team
bro I keep thinking my video gets stuck whenever Kmart starts talking
Most teams that put together "super teams" don't win titles...A great team usually trumps a team full of individual talents.
If KD going to the Warriors and only being able to win when on that team but losing 100% of the time when not on that team, then Jordan only being able to win ring when playing on the best team of his era but then losing 100% of the time when not on that team negatively impacts 6/0. Most everyone can win when playing on the best team and can win multiple times when staying up under that team. But if you can win when NOT having to play on the best team is the real accomplishment. And winning multiple times when not on that team creates distance from the guy who was limited to winning when on that team.
If we being honest after Miami Shaq was a role player
I believe that Shaq was pass his prime when he went to Miami also. In fact Alonzo Mourning had a bigger impact on Miami than Shaq did in the finals.
Shaq didn't leave to go team up with another superstar and Orlando didn't want to pay him
Because HE WANTED THE MOST MONEY. he chose a team that was winning and a great destination. How hard is that to understand. The lakers always attract stars
