Thanks for this video. Being a beginner just getting into it with my kids the videos from the "hardcore" RC guys make it seem daunting. I do not want to take my truck apart until I absolutely need to so It was nice to see people who know what they are doing do something other than the water method.
Nice instructional video on how to break in a brushed motor !. I do that with all of my Traxxas trucks man. Not in circles all the time but I like to mix it up with straight runs down the neighborhood street after the first 5-7 minutes. Shout-out to you buddy

Or you could put in in training mode and run it 3 times on full battery and in the middle of the third run you will notice it has gotten faster

also to break in a brushed motor you can put it in a glass of water on full throttle to clean it out and make it more efficient
Yes. That is another way to do it. I have found out and been told that this way works as well. It works perfectly fine for me:)

Thanks for another shoutout! This video has helped a lot! I'm gunna get an RC Car soon and I wouldn't have thought about breaking in the motor xD What RC car would you recommend getting? I'd prefer something that isn't too expensive but is reliable. I also don't have much tarmac road to drive it on so it would also have to be off-road. So cheap(ish), reliable and off-road. What would you recommend?
ThorsChosenOne ok. So for a cheaper side, that mini buggy I unboxed. Only thing is, I have not tested it yet. I will have a new one this weekend. For a more durable and very reliable vehicle, I would go with like a Traxxas 1/16 scale slash or e revo. The reason I say 1/16 scale is because they are cheaper. If you wanted the bigger and faster 1/10 scale vehicles,
You would probably be looking at 250$. Where as the smaller scale is cheaper. Also, you could get a different brand, however Traxxas is very reliable, ready to run, great costumer support, and extremely durable. For getting back into the hobby, I would go with a Traxxas. Also monster trucks are good as well:). Let me know what you think about this.
The RC Genius Thanks man this has given me a lot to think about and research. I'll probably go with a 1/16 model but I'll look into the 1/10's just to see how much more expensive they are and see how much better they are. Monster truck could be very cool but from what I've seen they're a lot more expensive (in the UK anyway)
ThorsChosenOne yeh no problem! Yes, I don't know what price differences are in the UK, however I would go with a 1/16 scale to start. Something else I forgot to mention, you will need to buy a separate charger. The ones Traxxas includes are for a outlet in a car. Don't know why in the world they would do that! But getting a faster charger for an extra 40 bucks might not be to bad of an idea. Let me know what you make a decision on:)

Great vid first I did this by accident a couple years ago also how do you know if the motor is finished like after a year because mine lasted for 2 years I don't know if It was faulty
Daniel Elson well when a motor goes you will know it. It begins to smell Smokey and burning after runs, and it will really slow down. Depending on how much you run your RC’s, the life span depends. Mine usually last 6 months to a year.

never knew about having to break in rtrs, but roughly how many full runs should it take to break in? and about half way through do u ended ip going full speed?
Bobodeman it really should be fine after one run. And yes I did go to full power afterwards ;)
Is there a reason you stay with brushed motors rather than brushless and NiMh batteries? Seems everyone goes to brushless and lipos so I am curious to learn the reasons for your decision. Thanks.
Dave Robbie the biggest reason is because of cost. I put a lot into the chassis and all the aluminum parts, so I prefer to not upgrade to faster motors and batteries. I set up everything to handle the speed it’s set to, so if i don’t exceed the speed, I don’t risk breaking the truck as much. Hope this explains ;)

i was going thrue two or three a year.
I have never had to replace any of my brushed or brushless vehicles and I abuse the crap out of mine 24/7

Thank you, I will be asking. Ive only dealt with toy grade up til now. im turning it up a notch and joining the hobby grade fun! about to go outside and break the motor in once ive switched the settings.

Could you just prop the rc up on a box and put a loose elastic on the trigger?
You could. The only difference is the weight of the truck not putting strain on the motor. Another method is removing the motor and putting it in a glass of water. Brushed motors are waterproof, so you can do this. You can do either way, as long as the motor is running, it will break itself in.
I spray electric motor cleaner every once and awhile when breaking in a brushed motor it sure can't hurt

Yes, its just to clean the motor out, so it lasts longer.

Attempted Comedy well breaking in a motor is basically cleaning it. If you don’t break it in, the motor usually will need to be replaced sooner than when you do break it in. It’s a consumer choice, but recommended by most hobby grade RC companies.

Hey I know this is an older video but is it fine to prop the car up and just leave it running to break it in?
Theoretically that is better than not breaking the motor in. The only difference would be the lack of resistance on the motor. You can also remove the motor and submerge it in a cup of water, then power it with a battery and let it run until the water is clean. Hope this helps 👊

Ideally any RC car/truck should be broken in. Just helps with the life of the motor ;)
well considering the motor is brushless from factory there is no need to break in.
I've never broke in any motors and have never replaced any motors in my entire life

Ideally, you want to break in a brushed motor with no load. The water dip method is the best. I don't recommend this.
Theibault yes. I agree that the water dip method is great. I was always told by Traxxas that I should drive it to break it in. It's just another way to do it, and it always works for me. Thanks for stopping by!
