It's not just mass production debris. The most important factor to form the film on the commutator is humidity. On older nuclear subs after cleaning their commutators, the techs would spray water on the com during break-in/1st start.

Just saying if you had a battery connector on one end of your wires and used those alligator clips on the other end. Just plug it to battery then clip alligator clips to motor. Also removing the pinion gear from motor is less messy

Will it hurt the motor if u use dawn soap n the water to CV clean it? N what kinda oil or grease u use to lube motor inside?

Does this wash out the grease or lube in the bushings or bearings ?
Of course the dirt and grime acts like a sanding paste that's *not* good for bushing or bearings either lol

To be honest bud incantations answer that question. I can however say I've never had a brushed motor go bad after doing this method. #T4L

What's the pros to keeping brushed motors vs brushless?

    • @TribeRc

That really depends on your planned usage. Brushed systems are cheaper. Can be cleaned. Offers smooth start up for crawlers and all around durable little boogers.

@@TribeRc i am new to all of this kinda stuff. I picked up a 4x4 Traxxas slash with brushed motor and I don't know what motor I should go with. I just run it for fun with my step son so I don't want to put a bunch of money until I know he likes rc cars. So if you have any info that would be great.

@@jasonbowers9210 I'd first just keep it stock as is. The 4x4 Traxxas Slash is a great platform right out of the box! If your looking for more run time and alittle more speed buy a 35c 2 cell Lipo battery with Traxxas Connection.

@@TribeRc I did the lipo but now it seems like the car is slower than when I first got it. I have had it for a month and I haven't been very nice to it lol so I'm thinking it is wore out. How can I make sure it is or isn't?

@@jasonbowers9210 next option would be brushless upgrade. I really enjoy the Castle Sidewinder 4 Combo. This combo runs about $120 i believe. That combo will run 2s Lipo or 3s Lipo. Another option for alittle more money but a super upgrade is a Hobbywing XR8+ Combo.
