AS OF VERSION 25 UPDATE AND UP ON QUEST THIS NO LONGER SEEMS TO WORK. IT SEEMS TO RESULT IN SOME WEIRD THINGS. On the earlier versions, after further testing in more games and more complex maps in beat saber I would say leave the higher resolutions for simple tasks for example watching movies or browsing the web since frame rate seems to drop in more intense games. However you can still use the lower resolutions that are still higher than your base resolution and they seem to work just fine. Find whatever works for you ♥️
I've been fiddling with this during the afternoon. 3072 gives unacceptable artifacts even at home screen. It becomes very noticeable when you use the controllers. 2048 gives good results and works great for any slow-paced games, but gives me some stuttering at beat saber. Which is really sad, because the game looks way better with higher resolution textures. I'm sticking to the default settings for now. It looks like it corresponds to 1536.
Yeah this is actually what I have found as well. I'm actually going to stay on 2048 for now. Makes me wonder, are all Oculus Quests not the same? Maybe they're clocked differently 🤔
Listen up! You can type in any resolution you want, as long as it is divisible by 32! Do this to perfectly optimize the resolution for each game. Also, upvote this so others can see.
For anyone who wants a bit of info on this... here is a short essay of basically what is happening. The quest 2 has a resolution of 1920p on each eye. This value that you are imputing essentially runs the software at 3072p, which is more than 4K, and then is pushed through the lower resolution screen, which doing so improves the perceived resolution, like how running pc games at 4k on a 1080p monitor looks better than running it at the native 1080p. This will come with a considerable performance penalty since running beat saber at greater than 4K is harder than running it at 1920p. What about the dangers? Well, there aren’t really any if all this code does is change the render resolution of the headset, although since it is, expect higher battery consumption and more heat coming from the XR2 SOC as a trade off. If your into programming your quest and trying it out, go ahead, although I’d say if it ain’t broke, don’t fiddle with it.
Is there any chance that this will void the quest warranty though? I don’t want to do this then get my quest bricked. Sure, he said it probably won’t but I don’t want to risk it if there is a chance that my account is banned by Facebook
Can I put it at 2048 and not get higher battery consumption and possibly oculus breaking

October 2021 update: The smartphone method still kind of works, but you need to set up a developer account to enable USB Debugging in Oculus Quest 2 first (look for it in the Oculus website) and then enable USB Debugging via the smartphone app. Only then will bugjaeger be able to connect to the Quest 2. Sadly, changing my resolution to 2560x2560 this way bugged the display: I could only see the top upper left quadrant of the screen (but the textures were much crisper). He also said it would need to be in very cold environment and would cause ghosting too. This is the reason why 90 hertz will be the cap because you will see screen issues during games.
The performance is way too low to be practical apparently. It's not bad for TH-cam and Netflix, but then the TH-cam/Netflix wont' stream at higher resolution and can hardly see any difference.
I honestly thought my lens IPD was off because there was so much stuff that was out of focus and was thinking about returning it. This fixes everything! It looks 10x better!
After many attempts with different versions of ADB on my PC, I found that SideQuest was the only program that worked for me so I dug into why that was. Since SideQuest is open source, I found that after you send the 'setprop debug.oculus.textureWidth XXX' or 'setprop debug.oculus.textureHeight XXX' SideQuest then sends the following command 'settings put system font_scale 0.85 && settings put system font_scale 1.0'. Once you put that final command in (that seemingly shouldn't affect the texture commands) the screen refreshes and the texture resolution is successfully applied! TL;DR: To change your Oculus' texture resolution: 1.) Enter: 'adb shell setprop debug.oculus.textureWidth XXX' 2.) Enter: 'adb shell setprop debug.oculus.textureHeight XXX' (Preferably multiply your desired width by 1.1x) 3.) Finally, send: 'adb shell settings put system font_scale 0.85 && settings put system font_scale 1.0' Screen should flash and show your new texture resolution :)
I have just tried this. If you go over 2048 of texture resolution the Quest 2 will start stutter. Both in home and in games. My test results are clear. Maximum 2048 and 90 hz. Above that it lags more and more.
@@RaphDaBomber Yea its much better than the quest 1 for vrchat but if your with alot of people it can go down to 30 fps but dont worry because when your looking around its still really smooth

I like this but the quest is optimized for the default resolution. Im assuming by doing this, you will causing more heat to degrade the battery quicker over time.
Hi, it's Sept 9th 11:02 PM PST, I used Side Quest and the Default Texture Size (instead of the ABS Command) to chnage the Quest 2 resolution to 3072 and It works great!!!!!
Wait. The Quest 2's display resolution is supposedly 1920p, so how can it go higher? Is it just the supersampling causing a cleaner image or is the actual resolution of the panel higher than what was advertised? I am not sure as to whether or not I should try it yet.
Probably they looked the resolution to 1920p because it's the resolution that keeps everything running smoothly. At 3072p, the "hub" is sure very clean and running à 90hz, but it will probably be laggy in some games.
Are you using prescription lenses for your headset? Any time I take off my glasses with my headset it just doesn't look as good as when I have them on. But I really don't want to be wearing them
@@lancetschirhart7676 What's the point in the resolution boost if you're gonna crank foveated rendering up and make it blurry everywhere except for the center anyway
@@hotel228 I'm not sure I get the question, but first of all, the center is what matters most. There has to be a tradeoff in order for the quest to continue to run normally. If you just crank up the resolution, you kill the framerate. So you need to give a little elsewhere.
Is this something an average player should change? I have no plans of becoming a developer but I do want the best resolution possible. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!
It would help for first timmers if you actually navigated through sidequest to show exactly where to go to change resolution settings. You already had it open...just saying. Great Vids though bro keep it up😎
Yeah I'm sorry about that. I had a few people tell me that. I must have accidentally removed it during editing. I'll have to double check next time I'm editing to make sure everything is there ;)
This should be approached with some caution. Whereas it might not impact performance on Quest games that haven’t been updated to take advantage of the extra power available on the Q2, it can certainly impact performance on games that already take advantage of the Q2’s extra power.
I have the oculus link 2020 revision. It charges while playing. It warms the headset a little but its nothing crazy. It drains in intensive games but I played boneworks for 3 hours and it was above 80%... and it wasn't at a full charge when it began.. Tldr; I can't imagine staying in vr long enough for it to drain.
This honestly should be the default in the home area, cause this is peoples first impressions and as it's mostly static it's more noticeable... But I have noticed it does introduce dropped frames and stuttering into games which kinda sucks, but I guess that's just the current limitations of the device. Still very interesting to peer into the "future"
I believe people say graphics don't matter which I can agree with. But I do believe to need good resolution in order to have a better experience otherwise graphics don't make me think bad of a game.

What’s the resolution at by default? I assumed that it was using the screens full resolution in the home environment, I wonder why they would limit it.
Limited for performance issues. This creator posted a comment saying that playing on the super high resolution(3072) caused frame drops in more intense areas So running a resolution in between 2160 and 3072 is probably ideal for games and stuff
It does use the native resolution, this mod just increases the resolution further so you are basically doing super resolution. So it’s like running 4K resolution on 1080p, the image looks better

All the same I'm just glad I don't have to change it each time like the video said, I can tell it's still the same for sure because the "Beat Saber" logo on the start screen of that game looks bigger than when it used to have the lower default resolution, also the fan in the Cyberpunk looking environment above my head is noticeably sharper than before.

This guy is the king of vr news now.
Thrillseeker is good too.

Holy crap it looks amazing!! THANK YOU!
I hate the argument, Graphics is what matters. Graphics is part of the immersion of gameplay.
The performance is way too low to be practical apparently. It's not bad for TH-cam and Netflix, but then the TH-cam/Netflix wont' stream at higher resolution and can hardly see any difference.
It's render resolution not texture strangely also that's a stream and it's quality depends on the stream.
I honestly thought my lens IPD was off because there was so much stuff that was out of focus and was thinking about returning it. This fixes everything! It looks 10x better!
I had exactly the same. Couldnt focus, thought it was mi IPD. Even got heachaches. This etting made mee see my IPD was fine, just native crappy res.
MY QUEST 2 JUST CAME IN!!!!
Welcome to the club 🙂
@@TheMysticle Thanks😁
Congratulations on 20K!
You can also force 90 hz through query of Sidequest
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!! tried it just now!! I just hope they do this to link because that would be killer!
Me, in bed tired as hell: -_-
Me, seeing the title: 👀
Great audio and video quality. Love the hustle bro! Just got my quest 2
Every time I change it anything it gets really buggy and black squares pop up all over what do I set it to
oh my lord THE QUALITY IS AWESOME but it does take longer to load
i hope it loads soon...
TL;DR:
To change your Oculus' texture resolution:
1.) Enter: 'adb shell setprop debug.oculus.textureWidth XXX'
2.) Enter: 'adb shell setprop debug.oculus.textureHeight XXX' (Preferably multiply your desired width by 1.1x)
3.) Finally, send: 'adb shell settings put system font_scale 0.85 && settings put system font_scale 1.0'
Screen should flash and show your new texture resolution :)
I have just tried this. If you go over 2048 of texture resolution the Quest 2 will start stutter. Both in home and in games. My test results are clear. Maximum 2048 and 90 hz. Above that it lags more and more.
Got my quest 2, 2 days ago and its so good!

Superb!!! Great video, again.
I tried 3072 and it looks awesome. But a (slight) frame drop in most games sucks :(. Somewhere between 2048 and a littleless than 3072 is probably a good idea for games. What is the current native setting if you don't run this command?
I'm not entirely sure but I think 1444
@@squee8510 it’s 1920p
I like this but the quest is optimized for the default resolution. Im assuming by doing this, you will causing more heat to degrade the battery quicker over time.
Nice Hair Cut!
Hi, it's Sept 9th 11:02 PM PST, I used Side Quest and the Default Texture Size (instead of the ABS Command) to chnage the Quest 2 resolution to 3072 and It works great!!!!!
Me waiting for my quest 2 to come in
: also me
Also me: not giving a fuck
Same 😂 it's gonna take weeks
Yo pron looks amazing in HD thanks man I appreciate it
But I really don't want to be wearing them
That is so awesome, but if I do that, in most games the fps for moving weapons drop from 72/90 to just 30fps.
Set the Foveated Rendering to "High" and the CPU/GPU power to 4
@@lancetschirhart7676 What's the point in the resolution boost if you're gonna crank foveated rendering up and make it blurry everywhere except for the center anyway
It’s pronounced “Bug yayger”
It would help for first timmers if you actually navigated through sidequest to show exactly where to go to change resolution settings. You already had it open...just saying. Great Vids though bro keep it up😎
Yeah I'm sorry about that. I had a few people tell me that. I must have accidentally removed it during editing. I'll have to double check next time I'm editing to make sure everything is there ;)
Thrillseeker used to be better, this guy is so much better.
This should be approached with some caution. Whereas it might not impact performance on Quest games that haven’t been updated to take advantage of the extra power available on the Q2, it can certainly impact performance on games that already take advantage of the Q2’s extra power.
So quick question, do these resolution increases translate to Virtual Desktop games as well, or only in stand alone?
What cable are you using for link? Does it charge sufficiently while playing? What's your experience with it?
I have the oculus link 2020 revision. It charges while playing. It warms the headset a little but its nothing crazy. It drains in intensive games but I played boneworks for 3 hours and it was above 80%... and it wasn't at a full charge when it began..
Tldr; I can't imagine staying in vr long enough for it to drain.
I cannot seem to connect to bugyagear even though my headset is plugged into my phone
Me to gor some reason
This honestly should be the default in the home area, cause this is peoples first impressions and as it's mostly static it's more noticeable... But I have noticed it does introduce dropped frames and stuttering into games which kinda sucks, but I guess that's just the current limitations of the device. Still very interesting to peer into the "future"
When will the higher resolution officially be available?
Never. Resolution is lower to get consistent FPS. Higher resolution equals lower FPS=jerky and crappy gameplay
@@ipxmahler didn’t oculus say they would release a free software update upping the resolution to somewhere around 2000p?
Congrats on 20k subs!

Help I have a problem when I do this now it doesn’t work, it changes the height in game to big and in home screen i can only see out of left eye.
I believe people say graphics don't matter which I can agree with. But I do believe to need good resolution in order to have a better experience otherwise graphics don't make me think bad of a game.
I've tried typing these in with different numbers and no change. Any help
same for me I tried it but it did not change anything. I'm in developer mode. Also Whe i look at teh video it actualy sais that it did not work. Look carefully in his phone, it says settop: inaccessible or not found. So taht indicates it might not have worked.
I need help when I try first the home screen looks better yes but also doesn't fit my whole head set. I. Other words when I try 2560 the screen reduced to the size of a square in the top left corner also when I played rec room and fnaf help wanted everything looked the same please help me
What’s the resolution at by default?
I assumed that it was using the screens full resolution in the home environment, I wonder why they would limit it.
Limited for performance issues. This creator posted a comment saying that playing on the super high resolution(3072) caused frame drops in more intense areas
So running a resolution in between 2160 and 3072 is probably ideal for games and stuff
It does use the native resolution, this mod just increases the resolution further so you are basically doing super resolution. So it’s like running 4K resolution on 1080p, the image looks better
@@notanicename interesting, I’m surprised that would make a significant improvement. I’ll have to check it out!
Why am I seeing no resolution improvements at all on my ocular quest 2 after updating the software to v49. I have also run SideQuest on my PC and connected via the bespoken cable and tried to improve the resolution etc, but again to no avail. I do know the connection is successful as I have been able to remove the need for a guardian.
Yes, I have cleaned the lens and all the rest of the requirements etc etc.

All this stuff makes me wonder: What resolution is life? Infinite?
I guess that the individual "pixels" of life would be atoms.
2020 rate
@@RichTheNoun atoms divide into even smaller particles, which then also divide into smaller particle.. and we don't know when it stops.
Life doesn't have "a resolution"
@@LeAlexo yeah but you have to stop somewhere. I considered molecules before atoms, but considering some things are just single atoms that's what I'm going with.
@@RichTheNoun Why do you have to stop somewhere? You can't go "sub pixel" a pixel is the smallest metric of a single source color on a display. When you zoom on a pixel, you don't discover it was actually made of more pixels. If I can zoom in on an atom and visually see that it divides into more elements, how could it be considered as the metric to calculate the resolution? Stopping at atoms feels very arbitrary to me

Once you send the command, does it stay forever?
Nope, you have to re-run the command whenever you restart your q2
Kinda skeptical of this considering you're going way over the resolution of the quest lenses- assuming this is upscaling and not native
What if i have an iphone ?
Is the resolution upgrade a permanent fix or i have to do it everytime i start my quest 2?
I tried it and I only get around 55-60 FPS on home. Playing a game impossible to play.

Hey referencing Vr Cauldron! I like, great channel as well
I thought i was pretty IT savy... but I have to ask. Which resolution options can we use. You said 3072, but apparently you used something else for beat saber? But good stuff man, keep it up
You can use any of them :) I used 2560 just because I wanted to see how it would handle it. Next I'll move onto 3072, if that doesn't lag, I'll stay on it ;)
@@TheMysticle Ah oke, and i just found out side quest has buttons to toggle them without typing it myself :p So that helps. But with 90hz on, I had vague arrows (no lag). So ill try high res and 72 hz next to see of that fixes it.
Oh and other apps seem to glitch with the high res😅 Did you have any problems in other apps?
Do you still use this feature on your OQ2, or it was just an experiment? Did you include something from SIDEQUEST into your headset, or do you use only preinstalled features only to avoid possible unwanted issues?
I just bought a quest 2 but have no idea what you are talking about, not all of us are techno nerds, any chance of doing an idiots guide or at least share a link to someone that explains things in a way that humans can understand?
Thanks for the cool video! Is this side quest setting working with Virtual Dekstop too? Cause I tried the same and I can’t see the difference. I just bought the Quest 2 to use with PCVR and a I’m a disappointed. I tried Half Life with Virtual Desktop and I barely can see the difference between ultra and medium. Although the nearly objects looks cool, quality -altogether it’s blurry, not sharp the whole. I expected more from the headsets amazing resolution /pixel feature together with a high end gaming PC.
Not sure how but I did this yesterday and I've turned it completely off and on again several times but the resolution changes stay. I did 2560 and it looks great and as I far everything I tried runs perfectly fine.
I wonder if they possibly did some stealth updates to the components in the Oculus Quest 2 recently? I bought mine just a week ago and I'm not having any issues on Beat Saber at the increased Resolution and the battery drain hasn't been too much worse, though definitely somewhat worse obviously.
My resolution looked great straight outta da box
What face pad are you using? Been looking for a replacement for my Q2.
Does turning up the resolution make it run slower?
