    I love it when people who own dressage horses are open to jumping. I love how you change what you do because I agree; dressage is repetitive. That's why I enjoy jumping more than dressage but I am much better at dressage. I hope that Gee has more confidence if you ever try it again. It was lovely to see!

    • @tigerwings2551
      @tigerwings2551 4 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      One of the most motivated jumpers I've ever ridden was a dressage horse who literally snapped the pole on two on his first jump. He never got to be the best jumper as his owner didn't like show jumping and from the outside he looked horrible, but when you got on him and FELT how much he wanted to do it you just knew that that horse had some real potential.
      Sometimes there are a lot of things you can't know about a horse until you're on them. I wish I could ride that horse again

      @@theerinwilliams this was my take on this too. I would have approached this from the ground first so he gets some free jumping in. That way he learns to have fun and express himself. Then once ridden you do need to allow him his head and neck to stretch in jumping otherwise he’s going to resent it. If he decides to buck and muck about after that’s normally exuberance but your riding skill can sit that. Be prepared to give him his head.

      @@theerinwilliams Exactly! I've always been of the opinion that cross discipline training is incredibly important. Not only does it keep the horse engaged, but they learn something in another activity that will help them with their main training. Barrel horses focus on tight turns; that would be a great help to a focused jumper. Pole bending would be a great tool to help with flying lead changes and stride length. And dressage provides all of them with flexibility. :)

    He looks very good - he keeps his collection after the jump which really helps with using his back and neck correctly. I think he jumps "weird" because he is used to a collected canter in frame (which is amazing and very hard to achieve!) instead of a more forward canter with a "flatter" neck seen when jumpers jump

    He did great, but if you wanna do the jumping again maybe try to get more out of your saddle and stay out of you saddle for a step after the jump. and also put your hands forward and keep them more forward for as long as you stay out of the saddle. That should help him arch his back and make he want to jump it.

    I ride, and only use a dressage saddle if you only have a dressage saddle or horse is used to it and the horse does dressage not jumping not coming for Erin just for other riders out there making sure ppl are safe😌

    I am so jealous! You have an absolutely phenomenal horse and I can tell he is so so happy. I would kill to have a horse like him, who is so happy and willing and wanting to please. And anyone who judges a horse, let alone a dressage horse, by their first jumping experience is an idiot, he did great!

    It's easy to forget how dressage horses are gymnast and powerful!!!! He is not familiar on how to distribute his weight and power over obstacles. He did wonderful for first time considering his strength! Amazing ride!

    Have you considered having him free jump? It might be easier for him to figure out how to get his legs right if you have him do it without a rider. He seems like a real sweetie :)

    What a handsome boy! I have a thoroughbred named Banks and he is a cheeky boy and very stubborn and difficult. I think that just runs in our family my aunt has a extremely aggressive thoroughbred horse named Dolly and when I was first learning how to ride I was paired with a very difficult palomino tinker named Vennie. Either way I like to jump my big boy and lunge him,etc. He isn’t the most comfortable or experienced in jumping especially since he is a young retired race horse. So from equestrian to equestrian do you have any tips? ☺️😄

    my horse is more of a race horse and trick riding horse we haven’t really done jumping much we only started around 3 weeks ago and he loved it already! kept is confidence and kept me safe, we went over a jump and I slid off his saddle but he moved over to the other side and it lifted me back on when we where in the air. he hurt is leg when done that but he was happy I didn’t get hurt ❤️

    No way my horse does the exact same cough/sneeze fart thing at the beginning of a ride too!!! 👀 Thought it was a unique thing... It's definitely an annoyance and trying to sit it without slack reins is haaaard

      That means you are depending on the reins to keep your seat. Poor horse.

    • @whaleison5045
      @whaleison5045 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kaciew.6202 I don't think you understand correctly 😂 you are supposed to hold the reins as if you are holding a small animal, enough so it won't escape but not tightly so it would be squished, but if your horse starts to cough and lurches his head to the ground and you are holding onto the reins even slightly, you get flung forward 😊 I actually have the opposite issue of not holding my reins enough and I actually ensure my horses have the most incredible time and experience in their lives and are loved more than anything in the world 🙃

    • @kaciew.6202
      @kaciew.6202 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whaleison5045 I know, I’ve trained with world class trainers. But I’ve also seen far too many riders depending on the reins for balance, especially in dressage, when it’s hard to sit deeply in a sitting trot and they hold the reins. In this video, she is much too tight for jumping, hence the hollow back and high neck. Even a first time horse will jump better than that if given enough rein.

    • @whaleison5045
      @whaleison5045 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kaciew.6202 Oh good lord 🙃 you should really save these comments for the actual abuse of animals and abusive riding, there is nothing wrong with having a few flaws in your riding... I'm sure you don't ride perfectly and if you do, good for you! But other people are trying their best, she even says so multiple times in the video 👀

    She's showing good things : sh'es gentle and patient. Her approach to the poles is good. I love seeing a flying change that smooth, no tail whipping. It's sad there is some bad points I could noticed. He has his head behind the vertical most of the time, and he's got a noseband, really I don't understand why people use them, all her horses have them. I also think she has her stirrups too long because when she use her heels they go up. I feel like her feets move too much for wearing spurs. Otherwise her position and attitude is good, she could have get up during the jump to free his back and help him more. I also noticed he often have his tail to the left, does anyone now if he's seing an osteopath ?
    I love seeing horses try new disciplines, it's good for their mental and their build, and he did really well. Erin has a amazing accent for non-english natives to understand. I also appreciate a lot her going to a walk after work, a lot of people rush the recovery after the effort.
    I'm sorry if I made some confusing sentences since I'm not a native english speaker and I'm still learning the equestrian vocabulary. I'd love a constructive conversation or debate about all what I said.
