11:33 is where the chinese version starts
GOAT
u got that right
English voice is good but come on, Chinese voice Is THE wukong voice. No disrespect but there's no comparison here
No eng better
@@hope5900Chinese voice sounds more authentic, and yea, comparing to English dub and Chinese original voice, there are a lot of differences, because in the original voice, they talk in poetic way which is actually how most original Journey to the West should be like, I even watched the Cantonese version. So yea, I really prefer Chinese voice
And yes, as someone who watched Journey to the West, that really how Wukong sounds like. I am Dutch but yea I am fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese due to learning these both Chinese languages for like 9 years, so i think the Chinese voice is more authentic
Fr. Chinese voice just hit different
@@hope5900 As a American, I agree. It's frustrating hearing a language you don't understand and being forced to read subtitles. It's not as bad as Resident evil 4 though. There's no subtitles for the Spanish enemies and bosses speak in silly English Spanish accents. That's not realistic.
Chinese sounds smooth to the ears and heart. English sounds great as everyone really put in their efforts…but this genre is better off dubbed in an East Asian language and dialect
I don't mind it is dubbed in Cantonese, it will be more fitted than English too
Do you understand Chinese though? It's pretty annoying reading subtitles while you're fighting
@@LW-fm4ib i learn Mandarin and Cantonese for years of course I know
@@LW-fm4ib Sounds more like a you problem 😅
Is it the actor who played Wukong from the 1986 show voicing him here in the game? It certainly sounds like him! Especially his laugh!
It eeriely sound similar
In China dramas, majority are dubbed by another voice actor. So no, it is not the actor who play Wukong from 1986, but the voice actor who did the dubbing for Wukong 1986.
@nickwong2525 wait are you serious they did that all the way back in the 80s?
@Ding63 yup, it's pretty common for historical series, because they wanna have a certain dialect that fits the series and some actors couldn't speak in that particular dialect. Modern day series are mostly done by the actors themselves, no specific dialect required.
@@nickwong2525 you mean series that are set in the modern day? I thought pretty much all shows are dubbed I just didn't know they were doing it in the 80s
1:40 Wukong's English voice sounds like a voice actor for the Joker. 2:26
Yes! I had the same feeling too, like the english voice actor used his villian voice for Wukong, where as the chinese Wukong voice is high pitched and scratchy because they envision thats the vocal cord of a monkey.
Tbh it’s more like a translation problem, the VA of this game already did their best. The tone of eng version are slightly off bc translations, wukong never a serious person(there’re many different adaptations in Asian but almost every wukong is playful& immature. However in this game or cut scene, CN VA actually sounds serious since the god killing monkeys and try to level his home
Sounds like joker with a Chinese accent
I thought for a moment it was Dee Bradley Baker
Because super heroes were super villians
The Chinese version is the real voice of Sun Wukong. Nothing can replace it. Everyone grew up in China knows that voice.
Woa really that's kind of awesome
Wait but wouldn't he be speaking ancient Mandarin then?
English voice is definetely not bad in this one. But also there is something that the chinese voice has that just makes me feel something. And in these parts there are no idioms and poems. Those will definitely sound better in Chinese.
I just hope that the text is well translated and doesnt result in everyone speaking the same manner.
You aren't chinese bro
@chriswilliams3110 I am not, but for the past 4 years 90% of the things I watched are Chinese. I have seen a lot of subtitles and with my hearing ability and the basic knowledge I have I can pretty much spot when they are purposely shortening sentences.
Regarding idioms, well, good translations try to look for equivalents, some put them as annotations, I have seen plenty.
@sesinhosantos5047 Very well said, I'm like that with Japanese,, always have been. Maybe indeed the language and text is better in Mandarin, but the flock people gave for the dubs in unwarranted. If I decide to do a new game plus, I'll give it a shot. But nobody's voice sounded off or bad in this game.
Missed opportunity to get Sean Schemmel for this, since he did Lego Monke Kid he already knows how to act the character so it would have been legendary here.
Thanks pal
Full circle to hear Goku's voice come out of Sun too
He also voiced Sun Wukong in Smite. And made him sound different.
Sean Schemmel is an awful person lol get him outta here
@@ahahaha6228we're not talking about if a person is awful or not we're talking about voice acting
Chinese voice actually sounds more authentic, if anyone who read Journey to the West novels in Chinese or watch the show or Cantonese version of it , they will know what I am saying, in the original voice, they speak in poetic way which is how the novel and the show should be. Not like the English audio, it just sounds like fucking Metal Gear Rising Revengeance shit, don't get me wrong, I think the English voice over is good, but the Chinese one makes it more authentic and original
Yeah and the language just flows better. For example, you can tell a lot from Wukong's personality by listen to him referring to himself as Lao Son as a pronoun. In English he just says 'I', which doesn't convey the meaning and personality as Lao Son. When Wukong calls himself Lao Son, he is literally referring to himself as your granddaddy without saying he's your granddaddy.
Hey man, that’s what happens when you understand the language
@@Ace-Intervention understand or don't understand i usually play games or watch movies or shows in their original voices
My version is dubbed to my country language so it didn't matter and to be honest this monke English and china voice not that much different
Yes tes I'm sure all of you commenters are fluent in Chinese and can detect the subtleties of the Chinese language. You're definitely not biased by the fact you don't have a fucking clue what they're actually saying and thus can't detwct the "cheese"
English VA monkey sounds so badass and menacing definitely the dub version for me
I like that, despite looking very serious and badass, they still gave him a somewhat funny voice to fit his character
Should have had jet li do the english voice, he played the monkey king in a movie once
The forbidden kingdom right
I think Sun Wukong from Dota 2 is also an excellent choice. Much better than this one.
@@Saltedpeanuts1Yes
The problem isn't the voice acting in my opinion, I think it's the scripting that's the problem. The way the characters talk seems very similar, to chinese opera, than traditional voice acting. The best way to describe, it is imagine a french person trying to speak in old english.
That's the issue with alot of eng dubs unfortunately lol they fail to realize we don't all talk the same
Wukong sounds like the joker from Batman to me a bit in English.
English wukong sounds like when people in a anime convention try to act.
Definitely does not lol
@@Jaguarsclaw does too
@@Healcraft You both are weebs for listening to this in anime voices.
@@Crusty-x8g but its chinese.
@@Healcraft Yeah, so?
I love personality of wukong with english VA.
I'm glad to be seeing more Chinese games lately. Since, like, the 80s, major video games mostly came from North America (specifically the US and Canda) or Japan. With occasional games from places like France. As of late, we've gotten a major game from Russia (which we haven't had since Tetris), and China has entered the gaming sphere with Hoyo games (Genshin, Star Rail, and ZZZ) and Black Myth: Wukong.
You're forgetting the UK - Grand theft auto, the Total War series, Batman series (whilst it was good) the Bullfrog games... Many more too.
@@Thereasonableclerith With all due respect, I didn't forget about them. I said major video games mostly came from America and Japan. There are the UK developed games you mentioned, as well as the French Ubisoft and Canadian Bioware, to name a few examples.
@@SaiyanGamer95 No, I just thought 'With occasional games from places like France' was a little disingenuous. Europe (including Germany and Poland) has contributed a huge amount, for example.
Chinese Version carries emotions, it easily brings players into the scenarios and enjoy them. It is more authentic in my opinion, I would definitely choose to play the Chinese version.
Will play in chinese already used to read subs since long time ago with japanese game
Watching this series when i was a kid, try the english voice can't stand it and change it to chinese and it's much enjoyable hearing him speak
After doing my the comparison myself, it’s best to go with the Chinese version. Currently the English version isn’t always synced.
lol, the dialogue has many call back to the original novel that was lost in the English translation
Chinese is obviously more authentic, but the English VA is very high quality.
二郎神和啸天犬站在巨灵神右肩膀,暗示天堂是右倾
I have to say, Monkey King from Dota 2 actually has a great voice... would've been perfect for Wukong here too.
Crypt keeper voice 😂
I’ll be playing with the Chinese voices.
Y’all tripping English voice so fire 😭
Eng voice sound like, white people when they tried to speak Japanese after they watched anime .
But wasn't too bad tho
lol
@@yourbot9788is this wrong?
@@yourbot9788 My impresions on Japanese characters are world class. I dont feel represented.
@@yourbot9788English sounds like a sneaky guy it fits wukong.
Chinese dub is good choice for this game
Erlang shen saying monkey more times frieza could in the whole namek arc 😂
Wukong kinda sounds like Frieza 💀
@@YoBoiDeAndreActually, Wukong inspired Goku, so Erlang could be his Frieza. That means Bajie could be his Krillin.
I like the English voice acting, but the Chinese voice acting fits look of the character.
WUKONG THE RIPPER
I would definitely play the game in Chinese as I was a native speaker (though staying in Europe for a long time killed a lot of my vocab lol). Used to watch both the 90's animated series ("Legends of the Monkey King") in Chinese audio and the classic live action adaptation (1986 season 1 & 1999 season 2). So I naturally think that the Chinese voice for WuKong had the perfect voice, the laughter and the snarky attitude. Some English voices are ok, but for WuKong...he sounds too much like the Joker. 🤔
Just me or the Wukong english voice sounds like John Kassir (Tales from The Crypt)?
I don't hear that much Chinese. I'll go with that because its more audibly interesting.
British English vs Chinese
The English voice sounds goofy as hell 💀. plus the lips don’t even match when he talks… guess I’ll be playing in Chinese
Wukong is goofy as hell so it fits.
@@Redd-Monarch lol the chinese voice is literally what he sounds like nomrally
@@stare4539 yeah he sounds goofy he’s a monkey after all
Fiest off Sun Wukong is goofy, second off the chinese voice is ALSO goofg as hell. You're just biased because you're Englishbso you know what's being said
@@python1972 are you sped thats his normal voice weeb
im just gonna say it, the translation subs in the chinese voice is great, but its not accurate
chinese voice more make sense look at the lip
In English the main character sounds like Freza
Shoulda used dota 2s Monkey king VA
Chinese: Authentic Wukong as East Asian ppl are familiar with.
English: Actually not bad!
is that frieza?
RAIDEN!
the english dub is nearly perfect ngl but I still admire their efforts
How accurate is the translation?
Well many things are lost in translation, but its the best they can do. A lot of these chinese subs are in Classical Chinese which is the language in between ancient and modern chinese. Theres basically no way to translate these things properly without losing content.
Is he speaking Mandarin or cantonese? Just curious
It's Mandarin.
@@sengyew83 thank you.
The language is Mandarin. "Chinese" isn't a language.
I'm here because people said the English is bad so i want comparison...but it's not that different, wukong sounds similar, now im pretty sure it's just Chinese people who boosting the cn dub so people use that version more i guess?
Everyone saying that the chinese dub is better are people who understand chinese. All these emotions and fluidity of prose that yall are glazing is not something non mandarin speakers will get at all. So for you guys it may be better but for non mandarin speakers theres no point to chinese dub at all unless they simply just want it on.
This game will probably take more than one play though to get the platinum trophy so once in Chinese then once in English
Wukong's eng dub sounds like Raiden from Metal Gear. Was it him?
Def will play in english
L
Ok nerd @@stare4539
@@SgtPeppers000 Weeb
@@stare4539 it's a Chinese game. Doesn't even make sense
English sounds like the Joker😂 and Chinese some how sounds like Liu Xiao Ling Tong
Chinese wukong is much better than English wukong
English Voice acting is great. But the translation is…mediocre. It got the meaning, but lost the poetry and tone.
Good translation is hard.
Especially translating from a language with a longer history and complexity like Chinese to English. Each character/sound in Chinese mean something, while English needs 3-4 syllables to mean the same thing
Chinese or nothing.
Both vas sound terrible
Both sounds bad.
Haha low key true...
chinese is faar better. English is looking like bad comedy
没办法,为了让大众能更轻松玩到
I mean I think my language English is better in my opinion but still both look a little ridiculous as voices chosen looks weird when lip sync isn't right
English voicing has no place in Chinese mythology: it is an insult.
As an Asian person who grew up watching Wukong Journey to the West, no it’s not an insult 💀 wtf
Hate to break the news to you, but this game isn't just in China, and everyone doesn't Chinese.
you are a retard

I like that, despite looking very serious and badass, they still gave him a somewhat funny voice to fit his character
