    As Robert Patrick’s T-1000 would say, “Say, that’s a nice bike” 🏍 not realising that the clip from T2 Judgment Day would be used. 😂. So great to have Robert Patrick ride along as well.

    Great video Matt, really enjoyed it.
    Like I said before, was considering the end of last year, however charging infrastructure here in the UK is not supportive enough to justify owning a Livewire, nor is the £28,500 price tag, the bike in my mind should be priced around £19,995.
    Looking forward to picking up my 2020 Slim with Screamin Eagle stage 4 & V&H Bigshots next month.

  • @ntdfmaverick

    Wow awesome video! I'm motivated to go ride! My story: I spent probably 4.5 hours total traveling to go test ride one of these with a friend at the end of this past summer, at a special Livewire demo event, one of only a few held in the US. It was based out of a large mall parking lot with the test route taking us around the mall and the surrounding service roads. We had these things going 90+ in that congested setting, it was truly crazy. My number one observation to share with someone who never experienced riding a Livewire would be how effortlessly the power comes on. Unlike a normal engine, the electric motor seems completely unstressed whether you're just floating through traffic at 10 MPH, or literally wide open accelerating to 100. If you appreciate engines, it's a unique sensation. Oh and by the way, I definitely believe it accelerates 0-60 in significantly less than 3 seconds. That might be another case of Harley underpromising on stats. I'll be sure to recommend this video to people I know! Thank you.

    My "Chapel" got one in just before Christmas. They let me sit on it. Feels lighter than my 2018 XL1200C. Only problem I had was, Seat is High for me. The Range I could work with. Riding to and from work. Have to charge it by the middle of the work week. They allow people to drive in the River Basin? Looks like driving an electric power jack like the double and triples at a warehouse.

  • @OrlandoRick
    @OrlandoRick 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice review! Worth pointing out that it is not quiet accurate to say there was no space for a L2 charger. The space under the seat is EXACTLY the size required for a 3.3 kW L2 charger (see any Energica motorcycle). I can only assume they had one there in pre-production and then pulled it out for cost-containment, or maybe they are planning one as a future upgrade.

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For space, weight, etc reasons they had to make a decision for level 3 or 2. They went with the faster one. I think there are less level 3 chargers out there than 2 but I think it’s the right decision to go 3. This will “future proof” the bike a little more and dealerships are all required to have level 3. Plus charging is free at the dealers with level 3

    Great video, Matt. Thanks for putting in the time for people that didn't know much about this thing, like me. I'm 33 and fell in love with Harley's at an early age because of the Old Man. I only recently got one in 2018. The FatBob 114. Absolutely love it and absolutely love the Harley Brand. I am still skeptical of the electric bike. It's still a fresh fish in a sea of two wheeled machines. Harley has done an amazing job, nonetheless. By far the coolest one I've ever seen. I'm sure some day most people will learn to adapt (including myself) to the electric bike format. Until then, I'm proud of Harley for staying innovative, motivated and up to date with their builds. All that being said, still can't beat the rumble of a cammed, piped, tuned blopping Harley. Although, we don't always have to ride the same bikes. Having an arsenal/variety in the garage is what the true enthusiast thrives for.

    What a fantastic video Matt, excellent work man. I’m very interested to see where this goes for HD. It’s gutsy as hell for them of all companies to try this. I beg your forgiveness and I’m sorry to be negative, but this is just not something that will ever interest me. Im a very open minded person, but I’m too old, and must have all that you speak of in the beginning. I do however think it’s possible there will be enough younger modern minded riders to sustain the effort, and I wish HD all the luck in the world on its success.

    Love the video, and great to see the love of riding from Patrick. I would love to try one of these bikes, but just like every other bike maker releasing newer models, the pegs are a no go for a person with reduced range of motion for legs and or knees. PUT MIDS ON IT ! I have ridden electric bikes when overseas, and I loved it. The peace and quiet of riding late at night to relax after work, the throttle response in heavy traffic, all of the features were great, but nothing other than a scooter in size because NOBODY thinks about having an OPTION for putting mids or forward controls on them. I lost range of motion from an injury in the service many years ago, and I am sure there are others just like me; and that isn't even considering someone with arthritis or other range of motion limiting conditions. Harley came to the electric bike later than other companies, but PLEASE take the lead and give us optional riding positions.

    My issue with this electric bike is that Harley-Davidson could have easily installed a recharge generator on the bike to charge the bike while in forward motion.
    I have seen that feature on e bicycles which makes their range endless. And that’s why I am sticking with gas.

      It’s a lot less than the gas powered engines. Basically tires, brakes, belt check. There is a small amount of “transmission fluid” that goes in the drive gear case. I think you change that about every 10k maybe. It’s inexpensive. I’m not entirely sure when the coolant needs to be changed.

    I would like to know what the dearlship charges you to charge your bike for a hour? Also what is the cost of charging at home? All these electric bikes, cars extra never tell you what and how much it costs you to charge, like how much do you pay on your home electric bill.

    • @geeteoh1
      @geeteoh1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      15.5KW battery will take 15.5KW of power from your wall for the charge. Cost is about 12 cents per KW per hour. $1.86 for a full charge. That's about 2 cents a mile (assuming the 95 mile lower spec). Gas comparison (not including oil changes): Cost is $2.40/gallon average US on an average 44 mile/gallon bike. That's 5.5 cents a mile.

    Is there anyway to attach side bags or a top case to stow some stuff one needs to take along to work everyday? Sorry if if that’s ethical sacrilege but my bike needs to not just look beautiful. I need to travel 30miles to work mainly country roads, so I would be the ideal target customer. I do agree with you, that the live wire has a much more precious finish than the Zero SR/F, you see it in the switches and the throttle grips and also the frame. That said, Type 3 is still scarce compared to the type 2 charge points though. In Germany we could drive wherever we wanted to and think about fueling on type 2 whenever we hit an arbitrary reserve charge on the battery, but with type 3 charge points, you cannot just drive into any random horizon, you will need to plan it around the type 3 charge point on a map. But it’s comforting that the future looks promising for those 5-10% bike rides. I would definitely buy a bike from you where I living anywhere closer by. Great informative videos Matt, thanks!

    That is pretty awesome, I could definitely have one as a second bike (Assuming I have money to burn, of course). However as long as loud pipes are legal well, doesn´t matter how fast this Wire is, because you can probably get an R1 which is faster for alot less money, so, the selling point for this is definitely just being hyped and cool and stuff. But we all have to respect how much effor HD put into this, we can all remember when the project started and everyone was like 'meh', now in 2020 its here and it probably is the best electric bike in the market, 'not a Harley' definitely but amazing engineering, and if t can hel HD stay in the market well, welcome to the family.
