No, but by the end and especially with dei it became a good game. M2tw is literally the goat. No questions asked. It is the last truly modifiable sandbox game
The Pontic player did a really good job dealing with what Carthage threw at them. Though I would have also like to maybe see some of the Iberian infantry used more like javelinmen. There was a point were after falling back the Eastern archers were in range behind the front line. One solid toss from 160-man unit into an archer unit with basically no armor will take a lot of ammo off the field.
Yeah, its unfortunate that CA decided that they are weak to ranged weapons when historically they could take a lot of abuse. Pikes are awesome and it would be better if the game made them the force of nature they were in real life, which would force real tactics from players to out maneuver them an prevent the phalanx from breaking their front line.
While CA slept on pontus, the dei team made a mithradatic wars campaign where you can play the poison king himself, sulla, or marius. Its pretty fun and playing the colorful pontus faction with a big frontal phalanx is super fun.
@@GreenOlive54 I agree they kind of didn't do the barbarian rosters right, also my boy Pyrhuss was heavily slept on. He sucked at finishing wars but won battle after battle. Pyrhuss was truly a battle genius and epirus was the first faction I had fun with when I got the game.
I think there's been a new fan mod campaign for Pontus and their legendary king Mithridates and his battle with Rome but they're a cool faction with a cool history. It would have been cool if they had done a proper campaign DLC with Pontus
1 thing to learn from this battle is a varied army with better engagement priority is always better then sword spam! Sword spam be damned!! Bring some flank guards and skirms to help with all the cav and skirms Pontus will have. 2 Numidian Nobles is so wasteful for balanced Carthage build. Spears and skirms man not more swords. Good army and play from Pontus. Carthage played a typical sword spam build without support and just clicked attack orders and didn't use cav that well.
Pontus is always a fun faction to watch. They didn’t even bring chariots in this battle
Credit to the Pontic player for such a skillful combined arms approach. Those horse and foot archers absolutely shredded the Carthaginians.
Afternoon Heir. Those Pontic pikes made all the difference in the infantry fight, along with excellent support from the Eastern archers.
insert "BUT I DON'T WANNA PLAY AS PONTUS" meme here
I'm taking notes on the use of these pikes today. Warms my soul to see them used to perfection.
Rome 2 is the GOAT

North Anatolia vs North Africa thats a cool matchup

Love the Rome 2 videos Heir!
Great video!
Great to see pikes do so well in multi
Pikemen have always been a historical favorite of mine so seeing them used to perfection in a multiplayer battle makes my heart happy

Got a massive soft spot for Pontus! Might even start up an old school Pontus campaign on Rome 1
Great battle (especially since Carthage lost). Thanks for posting Heir!
I love Pontus, I hope CA’ll expand their roster in Rome 3 or give player a DLC campaign during Pontus vs Rome war and expand Pontus unit roster.

I missed the old day when bronze shield pikemen costed 760.

Those Phoenician cousins forgot the Potifs MaKia Donis power
Wow, you don't see pikes perform well in multiplayer rarely! Great battle!
Hey Heir would you be interested in casting a Napoleonic Total War 3 or Field command Napoleon mod match?
Sweet match up!
This was really interesting battle..
where do we send replays?

What's the easiest way to send replays of battles to you Heir? :P
Greco Roman Wrestling meet and Grate. Whom shall win this cheese?
pike stacking is almost always not allowed
Pikes are already weak and extremely hard to use in a land battle so banning pike stacking in land battles makes no sense
You can make siege battle video
But I don't want to play as Pontus!
Been a while
do more rome 2 campaign
Why is it always the same maps, damn
On large funds pontus is a top their pick
But... but I don't WANT to play as Pontus!
DEI or it don't count.
