    2001 7.3 Dually here. Just passed 250,000 miles yesterday and replaced all 8 injectors (OEM) 2 months ago. Love "The Beast". (35 ft. Fifth wheel home power).

    I've had my '02 for about 11 - 12 years now and am getting closer to 170K miles on it. So I'm watching these videos closely - you have a fine looking engine compartment! Kudos!

    • @DreaminDiesel

      Thank you sir! That's awesome that you've had your truck that long, and its still young yet. I definitely wish mine had lower miles like that, but its still running strong so I can't really complain. I've had my truck for almost 4 years now. I do my best to keep it clean, I'm pretty picky about that. Just keep an eye on everything and keep up with maintenance and you should be good to go!

    Digging ALL you've done under the hood! Giving me 7.3 envy for damn sure lol. Drop the fuel tank for the hutch mod and check fuel pressure yet? My in tank filters were clogged AF and had to rebuild the FPR, she's dialed in now and ready for the Hydra! Looking forward to more of your 7.3 vids!..

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again man! Haven't done the hutch and harpoon yet, really want to though. I've actually had the Strictly diesel hutch kit with the filter and everything for years, but just haven't taken the time to drop the tank and do it yet, haha! Should be doing it soon though! Should have some more 7.3 vids, here in a couple weeks hopefully. Winters finally about over so it'll be time to roll it out for the first time in a while. I watched one of your vids and noticed you're from Cali, must be nice to not have to deal with the winter and the salt, I hate it haha. And that's a nice 7.3 you got, sounds good!

    • @jonr3924
      @jonr3924 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've had the kit a couple years now, lmao! I was sleeping on the Hutch too until I installed a FP gauge and discovered my FP was dangerously low, 50psi at idle and would dip to upper 20's at WOT. Dropping the tank sucks but only have to do it once. Also the FPR was worn out so I rebuilt it and used the stiffer gold spring. Now the FP holds a steady 62psi at idle and doesn't drop past 55psi at WOT. Throttle response/ acceleration is much improved, the mpg calculator went up from 13 to 15.5. Luckily a starving injector didn't get too hot and come apart killing the motor, they're running much smoother/ quieter now. Thanks for subbing to my channel and the comps on my truck! Got it just over a year ago, was pretty rough but only 160k on the clock and was bone stock! Super happy with it and having fun so far, first diesel and loving it! Vid was prior to the Hutch btw. Cali weather is nice but most everything else here blows lol. Been enjoying your 6.0 vids as well. Thaw out soon and keep the good content coming man!

    the purple power has a bit of acid In, so when it comes in contact with aluminum it'll dull your all your polishing work. You can tell by the way it will sting if you have any cuts on your hands, but it works so awesome on heavy grease and grime..

      Thanks for the nice comments on the truck! I'm trying to do the mods right, so I can have all the supporting mods done before going for more power. I've been busy lately and haven't uploaded in a while. Going to try to upload more often. Hopefully will have a new video up this week or next.

    I have an '02 7.3 F350 with about 132k totally stock and have been looking for some upgrades that didn't involve crazy power mods. I've been contemplating a coolant filter but wasn't sure if it was really worth it on a 7.3 like it is on the 6.0. By your upgrades and appearance of the engine, I'm guessing you pay attention to routine maintenance. If so, you're likely to get a few 100k's out of it. I had an '00 F350 that I sold and was kicking myself for selling it about a week afterwards. Keeping this one...
    Good video, BTW.

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you sir! I hear ya on not selling. I've heard way too many stories of people selling their trucks and then instantly regretting it. I'm never selling mine, I know I'd regret it if I did. I do take pretty good care of my truck and keep with maintenance as well as I can. I'm hoping it lasts a long time. I know it needs a few things, but its nothing too major.
      Sounds like that 02 you have is a nice a truck, and should last for a long while. I wish mine had that low of miles. A coolant filter is never a bad thing, it definitely won't hurt. I don't think its as important on a 7.3 as it is on a 6.0. Its more of a reliability thing. I overdue everything and got it just to be safe. If you're planning to keep the truck a long time, I'd say its worth doing. What kind of mods are you looking for? You looking more for reliability mods, or looking for a little bit of a power increase?

And I think once you start getting into bigger injectors/turbo down the road every little bit helps. The RIff Raff boots are great! They are about $130 and I got their clamp kit too, which was $48. I'd get their reinforcing plenum inserts ($38) too, so you can really crank down on the intake plenum. The intake plenums are known to crush if you crank down on them too hard.

    Did straight piping you exhaust increase your MPGs?
    Also, which upgrades would you say had a noticeable improvement in MPGs?
    Thanks!

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll start with this, the truck was not stock when I got it, so I can't say how much everything helps MPGs coming from stock. But I'll tell what I think makes the most difference in MPGs and somethings that have seemed to help me.
      Straight piping did not make any difference. Maybe if you have the stock exhaust and straight piped it you'd see a difference, but you'll see a better improvement from going with an aftermarket exhaust. With an aftermarket exhaust you shouldn't see any performance change going from having a muffler to straight piping it, just a change in sound. I would say the best mods for some MPG increase, are an aftermarket exhaust, a good aftermarket intake, and then a good tuner.
      I just went from a TS chip to a PHP Hydra chip. I did see a MPG increase with the Hydra because the PHP tunes are much better than the TS tunes. Night and day difference. Now to me the most important thing to having good MPG is making sure the truck is running 100%. Make sure you don't have any boost/exhaust leaks, that your injectors are good, and all your sensor and everything else are working as they should. I know I have a pretty good exhaust leak and my injectors are staring to go bad, and those are significantly hurting my MPG.

    • @v8diesellust294
      @v8diesellust294 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Things that will help with fuel mileage is exhaust, cold air intake (a good one k&n is not good on diesels), hydra, 160/30 to 200/100 injectors, regulated return, fuel bowl delete, and the hutch mod. Depending on how you drive it you can see 20 plus mpg

      @@DreaminDiesel the valve and the flapper.I didnt the up pipes with the bellows too. great power up. just helps get the boost to flow a bit better. • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mikefngarage yeah I'm planning to do all that shit. My up pipes are leaking BAD! The bellows have been leaking for a while but the bolts that hold them to the manifolds are so rusted one of them completely broke in half! So I'm pretty much missing one bolt, its bad! And yeah the ebp system is pretty much pointless. It can help it warm up on a cold start and be used as an exhaust brake but that's about it. But doesn't make that much of a difference. Doing up pipes, deleting the epbv, and rebuilding the turbo. Should make a big difference!

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigred8231 well now that I think about it and have gotten to use the military terminals a bit more they aren't too bad. There's just a few drawbacks to them that I didn't realize when I first bought them. One is that the bolts for the contact points are quite a bit larger than stock, so depending on the size of the wire ends on anything you have wired up, you may have to drill them out to make them work. Everything stock works fine but one or two aftermarket wires I had, had to be drilled out. Then with bolts supplied with the terminals there isn't a whole lot of room for multiple wires. I think you might need longer bolts if you have a lot of accessories hooked up.
      The only other option that I know of for terminals is the stock ones. Really the military terminals do make it easy to make connections, but I think they should come with longer bolts to truly be effective.

    • @DreaminDiesel

      How old is your filter? Probably means it is clogged or at least really dirty. Or I've heard of aftermarket filters flowing so much air that it pops the filter minder under heavy throttle.
      I never had an issue, but I no longer use mine now. I ended up cutting that pipe for the filter for better fitment. I cut off the end with the hole for the filter minder so it just sits in there by the filter. No issues at all now haha.

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I replaced them as preventative maintenance. The truck is older with high miles, and I don't know what condition the parts are in or if they've been replaced before. So I just do it to give myself a good base to start with, and so I know that everything is good to go. And I believe in getting the truck to running 100% in stock form before adding mods, like injectors, turbo, etc. Probably me being a little OCD, but it's worth it to me.
      Honestly didn't have too much money into the truck at this point. Don't know exactly but I'd say somewhere in the $3-4000 range nothing crazy. A good amount of stuff you see in the video was already done to the truck when I got it. Got lots planned for it though, should be getting into that soon.

      No problem! If you're going to wash your engine use some degreaser or wheel and tire cleaner or something similar and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, but don't let it dry. I like to use a brush or sponge to scrub a bit. • @DreaminDiesel

      CX's wording and descriptions aren't the best. They were like that when I bought mine. You gotta analyze and compare each kit and figure it out for yourself. I just looked at their website. If you go to their 7.3 section, the second air intake kit listed is the one I got. Part number is Al-GTP38-S-1-2. It says stock in the title, but in the description it says its for the bigger turbo. No idea why it's like that. I know that's kit I got, I matched the part numbers with my order. Fits the stock turbo fine.

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh, I wondered if someone would notice. I was going to say something about it in the video but forgot. I know I have a coolant leak, which I've been chasing for a while. I'm pretty stumped on where exactly its leaking from, and haven't had the time to dive in and hunt it down yet. So look for leaks on any of the radiator hoses, around your water pump, and check your degas bottle for cracks. Or if you are using or burning coolant somehow, which I doubt, you might be able to see it dripping from you exhaust. And you should be able to smell it in the exhaust, and it would be pretty smokey, either white or blue smoke I believe.

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Leech Its Rotella Ultra ELC concentrate. So its just the coolant and you have to mix it 50/50 with distilled water. As you can, its yellowish in color, unlike most other brands of ELC coolant, which are red.

      @dennisreelie1720 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just thought I'd mention, sometimes when your coolant overflow bottle(degas) cracks, it can be due to head gasket failure. The exhaust gas can pressurize the system past its capability. Just look out for it.

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah mine always started no problem, but even like just after sitting over the weekend or something I could tell it was weaker. I don't think it should be weaker after a few days, maybe after a few weeks, but not a few days. Even then with all the wiring and electrical upgrades I've done, I feel like it should crank faster. But it might just be me overthinking it. Like I said, haven't had a problem with it yet, so I'm not too worried about it.

    how is the cx racing intercooler?

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have the CX racing intercooler. I just have their 5" air intake kit. I like it and its pretty good quality. Fitment is ok, but I bought it knowing that. Don't know much about their intercooler. I've heard of a couple people using it, but other than that not sure. I like the Alradco intercooler myself. But you really don't need an aftermarket intercooler unless you're pushing some serious power, or something is wrong with your stock one.

      so new CX racing intercooler is in, I didn't have the remote oil cooler that the website shows to move to make the intercooler fit so I took the top support that the top of the intercooler mounts too off and slid it straight down. the intercooler itself is made very well and so are the pipes, fitment was kind of a pain in the ass.

    • @trevorlazlasley9863
      @trevorlazlasley9863 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to alter some of the mounting holes in the brackets to make the lower part of the intercooler fit. no instructions either but I'm ok with that. haven't ran the truck yet, in the middle of fixing exhaust leaks.

      I haven't really put that much time or money into it yet. Haven't done any big money mods or anything. Its all worth it to me. The stuff I've done so far is all for reliability and for supporting mods to support going for more power in the future. Attention to detail is very important to me.

    That ccv mod is not the best idea! your turbo is not going to get the extra lubrication it needs! and the clean motor looks great!

    • @DreaminDiesel
      @DreaminDiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks! I can see what you're saying, but I don't think I've ever heard that before about the turbo needing lubrication from the ccv. Plenty of people have done the ccv mod before and ran it for a long time with no issues. Its a pretty popular mod on just about any year of Powerstroke, even up to the 6.7. International actually designed the 7.3 with the ccv venting to the atmosphere and the Ford engineers decided to route it into the intake for some reason. I did it to see how I liked it and so far I'm liking it, so I'm going to be leaving it as is. Not that I'm discounting your opinion, but I think its ok and is not hurting anything, so it will stay. Thanks for your input though!

      FreestylePYRO Ccv is not a good idea on a high mileage engine

    • @Calico5string1962
      @Calico5string1962 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turbo doesn't get lubrication from the CCV. Crankcase vapor that is taken in by the compressor is simply heated and pumped out and into the intercooler (and then into the engine's intake. There, what doesn't pass on into the engine, cools and condenses back into oil, which then ends up as a pool of oil at the bottom of the IC. Oil vapor that does make into the engine is burned, but serves very little in the way of additional "lubrication".
      He is correct in his statement that the original International/Navistar T444 was designed for the CCV to go direct to atmosphere via a tube down the back of the left-side head, and into a road-draft tube. Ford modified this for 50-state emissions by incorporating the CCV breather into the intake, ahead of the turbo. This was strictly done to reduce emissions, and has nothing to do with lubricating anything...

      It's not a good idea for any forced induction engine. The vented oil garbage collects in the intercooler and charge pipe hoses. It's a nasty sludge. And get enough of it, and there's the potential of a run away engine. You don't want that!
