- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look back at the Miiverse and how it's recent surge in popularity shows that it's a market Nintendo should keep capitalizing on with the upcoming Nintendo Switch. You can thankfully experience a glimpse of it if you own a legacy Nintendo console right now! Thanks for watching!

4:42 I had no idea this is where the “you should draw x giving birth” came from
Nah man watch the soothouse video from back in the day about Miiverse. A hood classic
A new meme was born
It's pretty funny that the whole thing was started on fukin' miiverse of all places
Even if it was barely moderated, it was still a fun social media platform. 7 year old me sure loved it
To be fair, I feel like the Internet as a whole used to be much less toxic and way better at self moderation.
@jwalster9412 It's more like the internet became more homogeneous. It's harder to find super awful stuff, but the average person on here is a bit more toxic than before.
@@TheGalacticVoid the Internet has become granny/child safe while also becoming granny/child toxic..
2004-2008 was peak interneting fo me
God your comment just made me feel ancient
i like the miiverse guy who obsesses over water graphics in videogames, i remember him being particularly happy with bayonetta 2's water
Oh yeah, he was MARIO WIIU
"Nice water"
I still don’t get why that seemed to be a big deal. Was it just because it was random?
@@user-S853 there are alot of reasons as to why, to make water look good just isnt really as common as you'd think. but its funny how a seemingly consumer leveled individual decided to obsess over it. i empathize with that.
who knows this might have given some graphic artist/animator who worked with water in games before, some sort of appreciation.
my leap from nintendo consoles to pc gaming had a similiar phase appreciating higher resolution textures and the like, ragdoll physics to me was a big thing as a sidenote
i love covering as many bases as i can with a huge block of text, its how i roll.
bottom line really, its endearing, it captures that childlike wonder. whatever age this person was at the time.
He's the first person that comes to mind whenever someone mentions Miiverse.
Miiverse was an insane experience back when it was still up and running, I’d love to see it come back for the NS2
Same. That and good old' Wii-3DS-WiiU FrutigerAero UI 🤌 (+ the simplicity of sharing Nintendo Network ID that the WiiU had, but for some unknown reason the Switch lacks)
It will never be the same again, even if it does return. Also, I have no faith in nintendo for anything online related anymore
YEAH! In all seriousness tho, this is a great idea!
It is up and running, open source.
It’ll never return cause Nintendo knows it’ll bring controversies
I wish squids were real
-Domohead, a miiverse legend
I miss domohead
I reference this all the time
God I loved the "family trauma" genre of posts you'd always see on Splatoon. Stuff like "This game's great! I wish my parents wouldn't fight so much"

@@pedromourao29 Thanks. My best drawing received 2k likes. Bayonetta reveal.
Were you able to archive the drawings?
Oh man...Pokemon Art Academy and TH-cam community was peak
Miiverse was such a treasure, and it's a shame it's gone now. I used to share my favorite Wii U and 3DS moments on there!

Pretendo brings all the 3ds and Wii U online back, and also replaced miiverse functionality with their own custom version of Miiverse, Juxtaposisition.

The MiiVerse, NintendoDS and PSP. God do I feel old.
Yeah... Miiverse, NDS, & PSP were my 20s. You are old, and I am a fossil.
The best Miiverse post I ever saw read "Drake is the best raper of all time" and I'm still waiting to see how that 1 Grammer error ages. So far it's not aging well.
Dude was a time traveller....
Are we sure it was a typo?
(YEAH!) must have been his ex girlfriend trying to expose him@@LobsterMobster25
@@LobsterMobster25 It's strange how a one letter grammar error makes that age better.
Wasn't it Emimem, not Drake?
The "nice water" guy and the "why can't Metroid crawl" guy from Miiverse still live rent free in my head
(BTW, fun fact, the "why can't Metroid crawl" guy did eventually go on to beat Super Metroid, which is rad)
"you should draw her giving birth"
LOL HOLY CRAP. Roger has a very specific set of tastes and isn't ashamed to let the world know. Good on you, Roger.
Miiverse culture was ahead of its time
Truly. Had some talented artists there aswell.
Miiverse Cringe was peak SOG
If only they would bring it back. But I highly doubt Nintendo would even have the guts to do so.
I watched Infowars on my Wii XD
YESSSS
Creepypasta was OG SOG
But Darkweb and Miiverse Cringe, definitely peak SOG.
My god I remember seeing a Wario with black face with text saying "Wa Nig" when playing smash bros on the mii verse level all those years ago.
So peak
Like honestly Nintendo never needed Twitter EVER! They had their own platform up and ready to go! Even with cringe they should have never gotten rid of it.
wasn't cringe it was bad actors
Nintendo wants to really be seen as more mature and not as casual as they used to with the Wii/DS and Wii U/3DS eras, hence one of the reasons why they ended it. Plus, having a social media built into something that a kids use where you can attach drawings of literally anything was just a very bad idea
@@jootersblaccat Not really
Miiverse was actually so cozy. I used to get lost in it after a nice little splatoon session.
Miiverse was seriously the wildest social media circus ever, if you can even label it that way. I remember sneaking onto it with my 3DS late at night while my parents snoozed, just spewing the most cringetastic nonsense to total randos 😂
Oh, and by the way, did you hear? There was this legend called Gio, the top dog of Miiverse, who turned out to be... wait for it... a PDF file! 0-0
I bet he was a Smash Bros player
Miiverse pdfilia sounds about right, but who tf is Gio?
@@chaseray7321 sounds like smash bros is what he did, not what he played 🥴😵💫
Holy shit man. I was in his friend list on my first account and talked to him way back when he was popular wtfff
and arian kordi, also one. sad!
The Wii truly was ahead of its time with these kinds of features and yet I was so young that I just couldn’t get into it so anyone else who was older then me really lucked out with it
But it wasn't the Wii...
@@ItsMeChair1 not literally no but these things did spawn from it
When y'all say ahead of it's time, I wanna ____ myself.
@@TeeKeeps lol ok then go do it, didn’t say anything bad lmao
Your miiverse and My Immortal reading videos were some of the first I ever watched, crazy how time flies
It wouldn’t be the same today because people would try too hard. What made it a gem was it was 90% kids just fucking around
Good point. Now that it's got a legacy and a reputation for being a certain way, it'll not have the same organic nonsense.
Lot of less naturality in today's entertainment culture groups.
You are making me want to find those "That's on Miiverse" videos
There were some good memes that kept me alive during that era in the miniverse
i dread the day my RP sessions, and LinkxGanondorf yaoi drawings are found on miiverse in the TH-cam and Year of Luigi categories. both were filled with degens, and i was part of the problem lol
I remember actively going around the Majora's Mask 3D boards, seeking out anyone that needs help with the game by answering questions, etc. Was probably the most fun I actually had with any social media platform.
I used to send out Tingle Bottles in Wind Waker HD that had rare or missable photos of figurines to help people out with completion. I actually saved a few people from having to restart their save to get 100% at the gallery.
I love the Miiverse, it was so unhinged at times and pure chaos. It was great.
Hands down the best Social media i've used, no joke.
I got banned from miiverse after posting a drawing out of frustration at a level I did not like in Super Luigi U. all I did was draw a steaming pile of shit and an arrow pointing to it labeling it "This Level"
I loved Miiverse. I feel like Nintendo saw the Wii U’s failure and just tried to do the opposite of what they did when it came to the switch but they went too far in some areas. I added a friend on switch when he had to move as my only point of contact and they don’t even let you message friends. It’s actually crazy that they charge for online now for a worse version of what the Wii U had.
I was never a big social media guy, but I got INTO miiverse.
It was something Xbox or PlayStation didn’t have, and it was just fun.
No ethots or rage threads, no one knew what anyone looked like or where they were from, just posts about Nintendo Wii U and 3ds games.
I loved turning on my Wii U and seeing all the miiverse icons for new games just pop up with cool drawings people made on the gamepad.
And it really fixed nintendos weird segmented approach to online play. If you enjoyed playing with someone, you could add them easily on miiverse, communicate with them, meet up later, etc.
When that shit got shut down, Nintendo online just felt….cold.
Nintendo charm kind of died with Iwata tbh.
@@bcj842that and when Reggie retired
In some sections the mods/admins went crazy, but I loved the ability for pseudo-screenshots on a handheld that doesn't normally have a screenshot function.
I remember there was this one user called "the Undertaker" who stylized himself as the character from wrestling canon
he was known for his almost fetishized begging for king K rool to be in smash bros for the 3ds
he was really creepy about it and posted literally nonstop
I hope he’s happy that K Rool is in ultimate
was thinking about your Miiverse videos yesterday, i admit i still watch them from time to time because it was peak lmfao
when miiverse shut down a few years ago i remember everyone breaking tos as the site began to shut down
Don't we all muta
We all also miss the wave and beach sounds when there is no disc on the Ps2
Nintendo really created something unique there. I really appreciate the enthusiasm for preserving digital history. It truly was one of the greatest social media networks for gamers.
Right.
Not saying right to this being the greatest form of social media. I was saying right to the fact that this is in fact unique.
The miiverse stage in smash 4 had such an amazing feature where after a match, you could make a post and it would appear in the background, but it would only appear to other players who choose the same character as you. I would spend HOURS drawing fanart of every single smash character, little 12 year old me thought it was the coolest thing ever!
The fact that it took Elon hiding the likes for Miiverse to be brought up again...
Miiverse meant the world to me as a kid. The way it was built into the Wii U's user interface was genius and made the console feel so alive, and the ubiquitous place it had within Nintendo's games was just truly wonderful, magical and heartwarming. I remember how it occupied my time, something I would use just as much as I would play the games on the Wii U, and I'd access the application everyday I returned from school to talk to friends or see the latest posts. On that note, the user interface had a life of its own, from the music to the charm to the aesthetics, the Wii U, at least to me, felt like Nintendo's proudest work, their magnum opus, which makes it even more devastating it wasn't successful. To me and many other Nintendo fans, however, it absolutely was a success. I have never felt more connected to a community through a game's console before - truly incredible and ahead of its time in retrospect. Nintendo was always ahead of the game and it is such a shame the Wii U didn't get the appreciation it utterly deserved. Thank you for covering the gem that was Miiverse, Muta, it really is a special part of Nintendo's legacy and the charm and sense of community that arose from it and the Wii/Wii U era UI is noticeably and depressingly absent in modern Nintendo, particularly on the Switch. It goes without saying I miss this beautiful and warm era.
💯% agreed. I was also devastated when it became a flop. I was a joyous WiiU owner a decade ago.
ew an unironic tankie
Touhou community made some custom Yeah! as well
I've seen some other communities make some as well, it really is the thing of twitter rn
The Wii U is likely going to be the last Nintendo Console with soul.
Nintendo's never been the same without Iwata and Reggie.
@@bcj842 The Switch is amazing too, don’t get me wrong, but you’re not wrong how much I miss the soul with the Wii U. Here’s hoping they get it back.
I miss booting up my Wii U and seeing a bunch of art and memes on the homepage.
The Super Luigi U community was unhinged 💚
Edit: i wasn't far into the video so i sound like a smartass now😭
There's an archiverse that has the majority of Miiverse posts. You can see all the weird shit before it shut down.
I'm still mad that Nintendo killed SwapNote.
That died faster than I could download it lol.
I never had any friends to send notes to so I used to just send rude ones to my brother loll
Me seeing you tweet this put a smile on my face. Though I never knew the many roleplaying and interesting things people where saying on there as I was literally a 14 year old kid back then.
Man, I miss when Nintendo actually knew what the internet was. Maybe they'll rediscover it someday.
Back when they weren’t fueled by greed and lawsuits. At least the games are still peak so there’s that

Yeah I i miss the Miiverse too. I remember back when the Wii U was new, I had a work buddy that would make some really amazing drawings/digital paintings as part of the MV art community.
He went by Blu42, and my favorite was probably the one he did in a Japanese theme with a Samurai Luigi squaring up to a dragon bowser for the end of the year of Luigi. So good. Really miss those times and talking with him about creative things and Nintendo.
As one of the few people who owned a Wii U...Miiverse was the wild west and it was glorious.
I still own my Wii U, and jailbroke it into an emulation superpower. Got 120+ games on it, including GameCube, Wii and N64 games. Unironically the best way to experience vintage Nintendo games in 2024.
No regrets. Most underrated console of all time.

it was a meme factory purely unintentionally
Bad miiverse posts is still a thing. 😂
I got a lot of screenshots in splatoon 3 of unhinged drawings and things people say. Its just about as wild as miverse itself.
It's a disgrace how Nintendo went lazy with the lack of feature packed on the Switch while the 3DS/Wii U had feature packed part of the consoles like Miiverse or themes for 3ds!
If only the rest of their online stuff didn't suck...
No system level voice chat, still using friend codes, no communication functionality whatsoever (not even basic messaging), no party system, no lobbies, no achievements/trophies, missing apps that have been standard for over a decade (Netflix/Prime/etc.)....
You don't even see people's names in games & have no way to connect with them/add them as friends/ invite to new games, etc. You just have to know them irl, get their friend code, and invite through the games themselves (if they even allow that).
The WiiU didn't use friend codes(you can look it up). The WiiU had Netflix(I watched Doctor Who on it back in 2015), Hulu and TH-cam apps. Depending on the game you could see other people's usernames and join their lobby with relative ease(again, depending on the game). Some of the things you listed were 3DS issues.
man now you got me remembering how I'd sit with my 3DS in the middle of the night and just draw random shit on the Miiverse lol
I turned on my old 3ds today and just stared at the miiverse logo for a minute man I wish they'd bring it back for their new console
