    He's such a gem. If that's him on a spooky day, he's amazing!

    Loved every minute of the video. The tacking up, the riding and the post ride routine. And the natural sounds on the trail. Please make more like these :-)

    It's actually really brave to hack out a youngster alone. I have no choice with my six year old and when it's going well there's no better feeling but it can be very nerve wracking handling things alone if they get really scared now and then. Always looking out for trigger stacking and diffusing it before anything gets out of hand! Your doing great ❤

    Ahh Rhi, this was soo lovely to watch ❤ I love seeing the yard stuff and real time, doing jobs and pony cuddles 🐴💕 loved accompanying you on your hack.. it felt like I was riding too ( I kept ducking the branches 😂). Love the real time and no music too 🥰 As a rider that cannot ride atm and miss it, this was a gift! Thankyou 💕

    I don’t think my comment went through, but I loved watching the hacking with the GoPro. I find these kinds of videos really relaxing. Lovely to see Harley again, and I hope your 2024 is going well!

    Would love to hear more about how livery works, how you found somewhere, the trainer involvement. As a novice lesson rider it's all very abstract (and far away of course) as to how things fall into place - do you pay for the box while you're searching for a horse to buy, since you need to have somewhere for them to go confirmed, etc etc etc

      Thanks for responding and sharing what you’d like to learn, that’s brilliant. I’ll try to create a video with that in mind.

    Thank you for sharing your hack, and I thought Harley did well handling the spooky bits! Very sweet to hear your reassurances to him. Super interesting to hear about scribing for the dressage and also what you learned from it, a valuable experience for sure.
    Sorry to be a pain, but was wondering if I could make a request: for text on the screen could it possibly be outlined in black or otherwise defined so it's more visible against the background, especially if it's against lighter colours? Had to pause to see what it was which interrupted the flow of the lovely hack.

      Thank you ❤️ and yes, thank you for the feedback. It was my first time using Premiere Pro to edit and it looked much clearer in the edit… it wasn’t until I watched it back on TH-cam that I realised it was illegible 🤣 I’ll update it next time. Question for you … do you prefer the text on screen and natural hacking sound or voiceover over the top of the ride explaining things?

      Best angle footage of a go pro ride I've seen too. It looked like a lovely ride. Harley is a superstar and you're a sensitive (as in to his needs) rider.

    Do you use your AirTag incase you fall and so you will know where he goes if he runs off, or is there an app that you have linked it via to track rides etc? He was fab on your hack!

    Now it seems he got more fresh the 2nd half of the ride, is there anything you or your coach do to bring him back to a relaxed state once he's in that mood?
    I ask because my gelding does the same and so far I have yet to find a way to bring him back to a relaxed mind state

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes he does and I’ve been pondering it the last few days. For whatever reason, he is finding hacking alone a little stressful at the moment, the longer we are out, the more anxious he gets. Now, I CAN hack him alone and clearly, he’ll do it, under tension, but it’s a choice then to make him uncomfortable and potentially have him lose confidence.
      Personally, I’ll be backing off hacking alone for a few days. Instead, we’ll go out with friends and make it fun and easy for him. Next time I hack alone, I’ll keep it short and avoid “scary” areas where possible.
      Sometimes it’s about making the choice to make it easier for them, even when you don’t have to. That’s my plan! But we’ll see. ❤️

      @@RidingWithRhi such a good idea! My gelding is a 19 year old happy hacker but we moved barns this fall and haven't hacked out alone nearly as much as we used to as we now have friends to ride with.
      Maybe more rides with friends will help him learn the trails more and then we can take another chance at hacking alone

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes I definitely think it would help! I found that Duke (my giant share you might remember!) became unsettled hacking at his new yard, when he has never shown any signs of it at the old one - takes time to learn the area i think. I guess we have to think that every time they go out alone with us, we are asking them to completely trust us that we will bring them home safe and not only that, but they need to navigate, on their own, without knowing at all what their next step will be. It's quite a lot to ask, even for a confident older horse!

      Hiya Rhi, have you watched any of Warwick schiller videos? He explains why this can happen and what to do, so well. He likens it to trigger stacking and how to stay below the horses threshold so they don't spook or in his words- spitting out rabbits ☺️ found it so so helpful for mine x

    🐴❤ I know (? Unless I've mixed you up with another equestrian - if so, I apologise) it's not been the weather for riding: rain, mud, snow, high winds etc, but can you not do any roadwork on Harley, or is he insufficiently trained as a youngster for some gentle roadwork? 🐴
    (I'm learning along with you re young horses, as my riding was almost always on 'seasoned' horses & ponies, used to roadwork. (before our covered school was built, back in London, in the early to mid '70's) and later I worked in two different riding schools - one elsewhere in London, (the other in Kent) which had covered schools, (though one was much later, after I'd left!!) ...to go to another one in "deepest, darkest Kent" which also had no indoor school!! A slightly 'convuluted' tale of equestrian experiences, I admit!!♥️🐴

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The roads have been covered in sheet ice, so not possible this week! We tend to do most of our learning out hacking so it’s made it difficult. I ride out in any weather - wind, rain, whatever, but not ice on our roads, particularly as our roads aren’t flat where we are. ❤️
