This episode reveals that Hugh Hammer's mother was Princess Saera Targaryen, the daughter of the old King, which means that he's riding his grandfather's dragon.
I realized she was his mother quickly too, as soon as he said she worked in a pleasure house and said her brothers sons were Daemon and Viserys, it immediately came into my head that Saera left her court to go run a pleasure house.

The WILD thing I realized is that Rhaenyra is also destroying anyone else’s claim to the throne. They all told their secret and finally got killed for it.
Essentially killing any future of their own line to find a potential rider. Even if they are not true blooded Targ, they still carry some of that lineage.

Rhaena Targaryen and Sheepstealer I'm calling it now, Rhaenyra's flex to Aemond was so smugly satisfying. Ulf is going to get a DWI unless he falls off the dragon. Oscar Tully putting Daemon in check was the best scene. 10/10 episode.

@@ZIASBLOU not to be a purest but even that I don’t want. No one should be getting either of those dragons. I thought she still had an egg for herself with her.
Also I think that was unplanned at the end, seems like an Ulf thing to just hop on and joyride. Why would Rhaenyra send him to lure Aemond? His first ride, inexperienced. Need someone who could handle themselves if something went wrong, like Baela and Moondancer. I say it was spontaneous and she took the opportunity to go out and then saw Aemond and decided to make it a flex
Mysaria’ a perspective is interesting. Because she herself is low born, she’s able to present Rhaenyra with ideas that she never would’ve thought of herself. Mysaria seems to respect her fellow commoners still despite being elevated by Rhaenyra.
All the fast paced political positioning in the scene with the young Lord Tully was so well done. Glad Daemon went through enough dream therapy to react strategically. I thought Corlys was going to finally claim his sons. Poor Jace. Not a lot of choice but he has a reason to worry. "This space belongs to Vhagar" was hilarious. Vhagar is a girl, Greg 😜 She is a badass granny.
Dude, I loved Oscar. He reminded me of Jon snow, and frankly, I feel like he's someone Daemon needs because he calls him out in subtle yet open ways. That kid is smart, I also loved how big vermathor looked in comparison to the other dragon that was sleeping. Man, it's getting so good 😂 thanks for the reaction, my lord rejects
I guess I just love episode 7s of this show. Vermithor and Silverwing are gorgeous designs and I appreciate how different the dragons look. I felt sorry for Jace and I remembered when he first asked Rhaenyra if he was a bastard. She said "we are Targaryens, that's all that matters." He feels like that doesn't matter anymore. I'm happy Rhaenyra can finally join the fight. It's not her nature to stand there doing nothing so that last scene gave me chills.
That kid was smart though, because he solved Damon’s problem for him. You have a bad reputation we’re not gonna pretend otherwise I’m just gonna make them decide to follow you anyway and they’re gonna respect me more for being honest and not trying to sell you as something you’re not. That’s really the only way to sell this
I do like how Daemon and Rhaenyra have been separated. Rhaenyra has to actually rule now that he’s gone and stand on her own. Meanwhile Daemon has to decide what kind of man he is and who he’s fighting for.
@@shanedalton9465Prob bronze fury Vermithor if you’re talking about the 3 dragons he’s old as hell so he’s prob rusted down a bit (bronze) he just looked smaller cause they prob wanted without question to kill Vhagar there by sneaking him.
Loved this episode! Really felt for Jace - you could see the tears in his eyes and he's right in a sense. I hated that he wasn't around to help with the dragonseeds - it was HIS idea. Really loved the parallel between Hugh/Vermithor and Sliverwing/Ulf. Hugh and Vermithor seemed to challenge one another while both Silverwing and Ulf kinda submitted. Very cool. Loved Aemond backing down - 100% it would've been over for him. The last shot of Rhaenyra and all the dragons? Fantastic. I wish things moved a bit faster this season, but here we are.
Nah it was Mushroom's idea but Jace then saw it through but yeh Jace calling the bastards "mongrels" was a bit weird given the fact that he himself is a bastard.
He and Rhaenyra are taking completely opposite perspectives on recruiting lowborn extramarital Targs. I get why he's upset, but they don't have many options here. Jace also seems to be embittered towards Myseria. Does he mistrust all common folk, or is that the product of being insulted for being the product of an affair himself?
It really feels like Larys is pushing the Maester to push Aegon because he knows he is in danger. He knows it is painful for Aegon, but he has to get better.
58:11 are we forgetting that Daemon is in harrenhal to get an army that Rhaenyra does not have? Yes, she got two dragons and that is a big deal, but she does not have an army to hold castles at this point, that is all Daemon. And Riverlands is a place where it is difficult to get everyone to ally behind the same cause. This is not just about him grieving and having character development, the most essential thing for Rhaenyra is an army right now.
Man, the contrast of Baela saying to Corlys "I am of Blood and fire. Driftmark must pass to salt and see", then Alyn saying to him "I am of salt and sea. I yearn for nothing else." I loved that.
I suspect Larys actually wasn't sure that the rumor about Seasmoke was true, and he didn't want to pass on something he can't confirm (unless it's part of his own misdirection). He left it to Ironrod to report it if he wants. And the dragon that came by right then was a different one, which they had no whispers about.
This hit my heartstrings as one who loves the reign of Jaeheryis and Alyssanne. A huge tale of love, heroes, dragons. Just incredible Targaryens that almost the whole of Westeros adored and loved. These two were the very best of the whole dynasty. So many Targaryens are just the reason for their own destruction but Jaeheryis and Alysanne lived such a huge life and so many tales come from their reign. Silverwing was Queen Alysannes, and Vermithor was the Kings. They are just as beautiful as I could have hoped for!!!
Hugh is the son of Saera Targaryen-a aunt of Viserys- who was caught with having relations with 3 close male companions. She proposed to her father Jaeharys I that she’d marry all three of them like Maegor did with his wives-which was exactly the wrong button to push with the king since Maegor murdered two of his brothers. After this and after she tried to steal a dragon he killed one of her lovers in a duel while forcing her to watch then tried to send her to become a silent sister (which was mentioned as likely being an empty threat). She escaped and fled to Essos and may still be alive. I’m sure if she heard she’d be laughing hysterically at one of her sons claiming her father’s dragon.
Saera was pretty much bad from the get go; a narcissist who had a taste for cruel practical jokes and who was disliked or mistrusted by all of her siblings.
She was also known to be selfish, cruel and manipulative, often pitting men against each other for her amusement and mistreating or physically abusing servants.
lol foreshadowing maybe or not, that is how they beat him up when he was young they jumped his ass but didnt kill him, it be cool if vhagar loses an eye too
Oscar was the mvp of the episode. I love that the dragons pick their riders. I believe Rhaenyra told Ulf to go to Kingslanding to draw Aemond out so they could ambush him. That last shot of Rhaenyra and the 3 dragons waiting on Aemond gave me life. Loved your reaction
I love the completely different dragon personalities lol. Vermithor made hugh earn his respect while silverwing was on more of a "whats up fucking loser!!WELL??!!?? Get on!!" Type vibe.
Silverwing waking up like "what is one of Vermithors snack doing stepping in my eggs? And immediately going I smell Targaryen you woke me you are taking me out for a ride." Had me dying.
How come I'm only realizing this now... Abubakar Salim (Alyn of Hull) and Amanda Collin (Jeyne Arryn) are also together as the android leads of Ridley Scott's Raised by Wolves. Amanda has this otherworldy, almost eldritch beauty and she plays a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' so well.
I LOVED how Oscar Tully played on the Riverlords hatred of Daemon and got them to follow Rhaenyra by insulting Daemon. You can see Daemon understand what Oscar is doing when he tells him to mind his tongue. Great stuff.
Oscar is my favorite character this season and 2nd favorite in house of the dragon, he can take care of himself, he doesn't back down, he holds his own side accountable, I love all that. 2nd it might just be me and that's ok, I feel like Jace is going to do something dangerous, I'm not sure what or to whom, I just feel like he is going to start something he can't finish.
Jace better not try to fight vhagar 1v1 he’ll be eaten whole😭 he needs to calm down and trust his mother. I do feel for him though, because potentially once he’s crowned king the lowborn dragonriders with silver hair like hugh and ulf who have much larger dragons could press their claims for his throne. Rhaenrya gave them dragons before gaining their full loyalty, she mistakenly trusted them to be as loyal as addam which isnt wise since they all had very different upbringings
Larys saying about Aegon “it might be long before he rests again” prob means that w/ Aemond in power Aegon will not be able to truly rest/be safe any time soon. He’s really trying to help him be less defenseless
Willem Blackwood, I really liked him. He was slimy, sure, but he seemed skilled. Remember, he killed the Bracken lad in season 1 when he tried to offer his hand to Rheanyra. He was just a small child then. Rip to a goat
I think they made the choosing experience so different is to show that no one really know what dragon chose as a measure for a rider. If can’t be understood by humans. It was just hubris that made the valarians think they know everything thing
Love love LOVE this episode! The new Lord Tully putting Daemon in check was a great scene. I hope Rhaena claims the wild dragon. I'm so happy that Ulf claimed Silverwing but I don't trust Hugh Hammer. There is something about him that I don't trust. Once again Ser Simon was a bright spot in the episode. My favorite episode this season!
I know how you feel, he lost his daughter and i feel like he’ll lose his wife too and if that happens he wouldnt have anything to fight for and if somehow it could be perceived as the blacks fault he might betray his queen😭 and knowing its game of thrones im scared something tragic like that could happen
I knew hugh and ulf were being set up to be the guys (not because of the books, it was just obvious due to screentime) and yet when it happened i was still so excited and happy lol
now i kinda wish that they focused on 1 or 2 more of the bastards in the previous episodes so we would have someone else to root for during the dragon claiming scene, only to have them die.
Now that is a freaking QUEEN OF DRAGONS baby!!! WOOOO!!!! That was AWESOME!!! They do such an incredible job with the size of these dragons. You see the Vermithor and then you see Vhagar like damn they are freaking massive.
The kiss last episode WAS scripted but it wasn't originally in the script. They meant it to just be them having tension between each other before being interrupted but Emma D'arcy (Rhaenrya) suggested that they just have them kiss. To make the feelings between them more explicit rather than just subtext. The writers then took her suggestion and wrote it in.
They probably didn't write it into the script. If you consider the WGA strike was happening during filming, the writers couldn't amend anything but that doesn't stop actors improvising or making suggestions. They probably did a few different options and then picked the best option in post once the strike was over and the showrunner and writers were allowed back in.

The WILD thing I realized is that Rhaenyra is also destroying anyone else’s claim to the throne. They all told their secret and finally got killed for it.
Damn yeah. Good point.
Can you imagine the outrage among the viewers if it were Alicent in that very position, doing the exact same thing??
Essentially killing any future of their own line to find a potential rider. Even if they are not true blooded Targ, they still carry some of that lineage.

Alyn and Addam of Hull are the best new characters of this season, they are 2 lowborn blue collar workers who rise to power through chance but don’t immediately let that power corrupt them because they remember who they are and where they come from.
Alyn becomes a badass dragon rider
@@SE-gs6gd Addam is the dragon rider. Alyn will follow in his father's footsteps and become a legendary seafarer. He even gets his own cool nickname. Corlys is the Sea Snake. Alyn will be Oakenfist.
I love Addam's character and the actor, idk, he just looks very cool after he wears highborn's clothing
@@mst3KGf yeah I meant addam
It’s also crazy that Alyn is played by Bayek from Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Ya its looking like it...i dont get why they couldnt cast someone to play Nettles tho
@@trojanboy88 its possible we still get Nettles I mean I could be wrong and Rhaena actually gets another wild dragon like Grey Ghost or Cannibal leaving Nettles with Sheepstealer
Rhaenyra does not respect them 😂
All the fast paced political positioning in the scene with the young Lord Tully was so well done.
How to train your dragon came in full force this episode 💯
Wait who’s red dragon was that at end of episode
@@shanedalton9465Prob bronze fury Vermithor if you’re talking about the 3 dragons he’s old as hell so he’s prob rusted down a bit (bronze) he just looked smaller cause they prob wanted without question to kill Vhagar there by sneaking him.
Jaces conversation with his mother is such foreshadowing. Peak dialogue
Silverwing was so fucking cute with the booping.
For a second I thought she was just knocking him away from her eggs.
@@manvirshergill1739 he said it because he knows he's a bastard. I think that's how he sees himself as well.

I like how playful some of the dragons are in HOTD.
It really feels like Larys is pushing the Maester to push Aegon because he knows he is in danger. He knows it is painful for Aegon, but he has to get better.
Aemond sending the Kingsuard that Aegon anointed to the wall was interesting.
He does not have the patience for lickspittles lol
It was smart of aemond they were useless as kingsguards they were incompetent.
Guess we know where the CGI budget went lol. sheeeeeesh
Silverwing really said “hey there, wanna go get tacos?”
Also, watching Daemon get dog walked by a child was SO satisfying
This hit my heartstrings as one who loves the reign of Jaeheryis and Alyssanne. A huge tale of love, heroes, dragons. Just incredible Targaryens that almost the whole of Westeros adored and loved. These two were the very best of the whole dynasty. So many Targaryens are just the reason for their own destruction but Jaeheryis and Alysanne lived such a huge life and so many tales come from their reign. Silverwing was Queen Alysannes, and Vermithor was the Kings. They are just as beautiful as I could have hoped for!!!
That will be the next series I think
@@SE-gs6gdno lol
I don't think so many targs are reason for their own destruction, there's more to it it's more complicated
I’m sure if she heard she’d be laughing hysterically at one of her sons claiming her father’s dragon.
on top of the funniest thing that her own kins are fighting amongst themselves for the throne.
"The idea.....
that we control the Dragons...
is an ILLUSION."
They are a power man never should have trifled with
Watching this season I often think of Viserys's words, how true
Yep. It's clear now that it's not that Targaryans control dragons; dragons choose to serve Targaryans. They pick who they want.
Bullshit
said Viserys calmly...
They came to JUMP Vhagar!
lol foreshadowing maybe or not, that is how they beat him up when he was young they jumped his ass but didnt kill him, it be cool if vhagar loses an eye too

Loved your reaction
not very good one now he knows what to expect
That end scene was INCREDIBLE
Vermithor be like: "I am not taking any PANSIES"
I love the completely different dragon personalities lol. Vermithor made hugh earn his respect while silverwing was on more of a "whats up fucking loser!!WELL??!!?? Get on!!" Type vibe.
“How To Train Your Dragon” realism difficulty settings.
Agreed
Lord Oscar don’t play
Jace better not try to fight vhagar 1v1 he’ll be eaten whole😭 he needs to calm down and trust his mother.
I do feel for him though, because potentially once he’s crowned king the lowborn dragonriders with silver hair like hugh and ulf who have much larger dragons could press their claims for his throne. Rhaenrya gave them dragons before gaining their full loyalty, she mistakenly trusted them to be as loyal as addam which isnt wise since they all had very different upbringings
@@LightofJoshua yep

I think Larys don't want to deliver the news to Aemond because he despise him. He was clearly making an effort to bring back Aegon.

29:16 “OMG, OMG, this is so horrible!!” While laughing manically is my HotD ringtone. Sums it up in such a hilarious way 🤣
Larys saying about Aegon “it might be long before he rests again” prob means that w/ Aemond in power Aegon will not be able to truly rest/be safe any time soon.
Vhagar: "Let's go sonny. I can beat those three idiots."
Aemond: " Wait, that's not in the book yo!"
My favorite episode this season!
it's the exact opposite for me , I am happy for Hugh and I don't trust Ulf😂😂
I know how you feel, he lost his daughter and i feel like he’ll lose his wife too and if that happens he wouldnt have anything to fight for and if somehow it could be perceived as the blacks fault he might betray his queen😭 and knowing its game of thrones im scared something tragic like that could happen
Like any grandmother, Silverwing is just happy that one of her grandchildren came to visit her for once - Ulf is the favourite now
Daemon is my favorite character but Oscar Tully gagging him so hard was peak 😂
I knew hugh and ulf were being set up to be the guys (not because of the books, it was just obvious due to screentime) and yet when it happened i was still so excited and happy lol
now i kinda wish that they focused on 1 or 2 more of the bastards in the previous episodes so we would have someone else to root for during the dragon claiming scene, only to have them die.
This was fire. Like holy shizer it was good. Episode seven is the new episode nine
The bronze fury is my favorite since they most likely won't do the cannibal. Great episode boys.
This episode was literally 🔥 especially the last couple of minutes
Now that is a freaking QUEEN OF DRAGONS baby!!! WOOOO!!!! That was AWESOME!!! They do such an incredible job with the size of these dragons. You see the Vermithor and then you see Vhagar like damn they are freaking massive.
Can’t wait to see rhaena claiming sheepstealer!
"Rumour of a siting of the dragon Seasmoke, with a rider"
"Where did you hear it?"
"Aunty Jackie's, sister's, brother's boy"
Ulf used to be an adventurer until he took an arrow to the knee.
I enjoyed seeing Vermithor and Silverwing.
