Van is a great guest, but Bill you and all of your guests should stop seeking out racism where it doesn’t exist. The St Louis scene is racist? Give me a break. 1. It’s comedy 2. 5 minutes after Van calls it racist he basically validates the depiction by telling a story about another crappy neighborhood.

Agreed. Both characters are hilarious but Clark Griswold is more iconic. Chevy only played Fletch twice whereas he played Clark five times and one of those times was in 2015. The last time he played Fletch was 1989. Not to mention that no other actor has ever played Clark Griswold but Jon Hamm has also played Fletch.

I knew they'd take the St. Louis scene to task for being (in their race-obsessed eyes) "racist." It's not racist, just as Blazing Saddles isn't racist. If the St. Louis scene was written exactly word for word and directed shot for shot by a black filmmaker, Rewatchables wouldn't give it a second thought.

There is another chapter in the Griswolds Vacation lore which I highly recommend. It is an original story and a musical to boot ~ The Griswolds' Broadway Vacation. The family goes to NYC to see the hottest show on Broadway but Clark falls victim to a fake ticket scam. Ellen gets a great story as well ~ the most popular Times Square character is obsessed with her and leads an entire army of Times Square characters to win her heart. The show had a World Premiere in Seattle in 2022 with the hope of moving to Broadway. Great songs, funny script and more heart than you would expect from the Vacation-verse. Still waiting for the show to make it to Broadway...

One of the more underrated funny moments in this movie: After dinner, when everyone is sitting around cousin Eddie's living room and cousin Eddie is subtly hinting at his dire financial dilemmas and is slowly working up the courage to ask Clark for a loan, out of nowhere, aunt Edna just blurts out, "Why don't you just ASK him for the money, Eddie?! He sure as hell can't take a hint!" A very 'Kramerish' moment.

I laughed so hard during this episode! I need to rewatch this movie. I personally think, there's something wrong with Clark. He doesn't think things through. He should've listened to Ellen and just flew out to CA. Nobody wants to spend their summer going on a 2 week road trip with their family. Especially, not now. Agreed! Ellen is way too good for Clark. She could've done 100 times better. Bill did bring up a good point. Where's Christy Brinkley supposed to be going? Is she stalking them? They just happen to be going in the same direction.

One more classic part of the scene at cousin Eddie's:
Eddie: "I bet you could use a coolin"
    Clark: "now you're talking!"
Eddie: (hands Clark his half-empty can of beer)
Clark: (looks at can with obvious disgust, then wipes it off before he drinks).
