At 51:11, one thing I learned about playing with Arabella and Ragged Playmate is that you want to get the combo online ASAP. Playing the Ragged Playmate instead of the Vicious Clown here would've given you a chance. Next turn, attaching the Sheltered by Ghosts to the playmate instead of stacking it on Arabella would have also not let them get their Stay Hidden, Stay Silent back, but of course that's hindsight. I still think getting unblockable Arabella online ASAP is better than running out the clown though.
Kenji's so classy he's getting the Venetian bots.
Hey kenji, did you consider the interaction with balloon man when deciding to not include the living phone? I found some success with that combo, but would like to know your opinion if it’s good or just too slow
"It seems like everything revolves around getting 2 sheltered by ghosts with this deck..."
[looks at title]
"Well then, I should probably pay more attention..."
Casual ward 6 with 3 sheltered by ghost is NICE, op was on 4 lands too :D
Nick "Nice!" Gemeo
This deck reminds me of a very successful draft deck I built where I won 2 games I was losing by Jolly Balloon Man'ing my Arabella to get in the extra 1 point of flying damage (in addition to the Arabella proc).
It's a legendary creature though how would you be able to copy it?
@@gumgumredroc5173pretty sure he needed 1 point of damage so he sacrificed the original arabella to keep the flyer
I thought these weren't Pro Tour qualifiers anymore? Didn't they change them so now they only give an invite to Arena Championship, then that feeds the Pro Tour? I remember being pretty deflated reading that, so I'd love it if someone could correct me because I could not care less about the Arena Championship.
21:34 Think Nummy got too trigger happy with the ward 6 to use sheltered on a 2 drop... Ward 4 already deals with their 4 land board state. They'd need to top-deck a land and for some reason have an unsummon or black sac exile card still in their hand (which they probably would have used by now).
nah, it was correct. Nashi is a threat that requires answer. Sure, this play isn't ideal or super safe, but given the situation, the risk is worth it. The best draws opponent could have in this situation are Sporogenic Infection (aura with sac etb) and land + draw unsummon room. Nashi draws both of these options
autotappering through your first opp in a qualifier
classic
Second to last game I think putting the sheltered on ballon man was much better. You would have been able to attack with a 4/3 clown and the 1/1 token. If they block the clown then that clears the way for balloon man to attack with lifelink. Otherwise you just keep smacking with the buffed clown and 1/1 flyer.
I get you were probably trying to diversify threats but it didn’t seem worth it when you needed to close the game quickly.
Telephone is much better with balloon man.
Under my Arabella, ella, ella, ella
remy reference?
i have to disagree with the quality of the deck, it had about 4 great cards, 4 good ones, 1 or 2 ok cards...and the rest was filler. id say this was a pretty bad pool. if black and green had any amount of proper removal it would have been alot better going BG with a white splash
It really feels like the only thing holding back Magic from being 100% the perfect card game is the land mana system. I wonder if they will ever fix it
probably not given how huge of a change it would be.
say that put in fixed mana system like hearthstone, there would still be variance from drawing high value cards early and low mana vaule cards late. it would be better but not a perfect game. and its honestly too baked into the game. so many cards would be next to uesless or flat-out dead (like every rare land ever printed) if they changed it. its problematic but it does add strategy to the game (less so in limited but sill) so its not all bad
hate this take, "magic would be perfect if it werent magic" ok... whatever you say.
They won't, because they've convinced themselves that it's actually a really good thing. In any case, it's way too baked into the system to change now.
The mana system is responsible for what make magic what it is, floods and screws feels bad but that's variance.
Last! Nice vid Kenji 💋
